Recommended head

Hi there.

I am planning to get a doll soon. Could be a DCoord or a DC.

But I am confused on which head to choose.

I need my doll to have a ‘big sister’ look. Maybe around the age of 25.

I don’t like the little sister look.

So between an 11, 15, 14, 16, which would make the best ‘big sister’?

Assuming I can get an 11 or 15 easily.

 

Any help would be very much appreciated.

The rest I think can go either way depending on their faceup and what body you can put them on. 11 for example can look like a gentle older sister or a cute younger sister depending on whether the heads on a DD or a MDD, even with the same faceup.

You seem to have posted a lot about this and keep asking for outsiders opinions. It's not proxy per say. But it's kinda like a proxy. So i'd like to get as much info beforehand as possible.

Sorry if my questions seem annoying but i gunuinely wanted to know.

 

These opinions i gather is just to make sure i dont make the wrong choice.

I tend to lean towards limited/exclusive/special items. And sometimes these limited/exclusive/special doesnt really fit into my needs. So yeah, i just want to make sure what i am getting is what i actually want.

Any head could be a big sister if done right. I mean look at Billy's girls. He's got the 01 head as a very mature girl, and another as a adorable little sister. Do what I did (Couple time actually.), go to the style database sub forum and look at all the threads for each head. You won't find all the heads as like Torino said some are very new and there aren't any owner photos out yet. But it'll be a good way to get a start. Of my 8 girls, the three "oldest" are oldest to youngest are Saber (Santa Alter), Miyu (09), and Keiko (06). Oh wait, maybe Yaya (Unbreakable Machine Doll Yaya) is older then Keiko, I have to go back and look. Don't let Yaya know I messed up...

Yeah ive been trying my best to scour all available info on the heads that i am interested in.

Currently DCH-14 makes the best "big sister" with M01. But with a few new faceups released, it's all over again! =(

 

A friend is actually willing to collect the item for me if only he doesnt have to do anything.

So i am planning to place an order via phone and he can just collect it.

I hope it works out well though.

Thanks for the suggestion. Been doing that almost daily in hopes to see something inspiring.

And 09 looks good as heck but i'd prefer something exclusive. And thats where all my problems arises.

There were stocks still 2 weeks ago at Akiba Dolpo.

But earlier this week i checked, she's no more!

Sheryl should be available as a full set or possibly as a head only through Yahoo! Japan Auctions, Mandarake, or Hobby Jungle. The markup shouldn’t be too bad due to the number of dolls in circulation. She is one of Volks more beautiful sculpts. Takane Shijou and Kos-mos are too, but their looks are more fashion model quality, and their after market price is likely to be much higher.

Makoto Kikuchi is priced ok. Mio Honda too but she's not that compelling a doll I think.

Makoto is awesome, but definitely more of a teen sister look imo.

$1,300 is actually a really good price for her. She's priced around $2,000 in most of the usual shops last I checked. Miki could be older sister with the right faceup, but if you are making an Original Character I definitely wouldn't pay the cost of a Miki head unless she was the only one that worked.

Yeah if that's a new/unused Miki that's an incredible price. She's always 200K on Mandarake.

Besides Takane and Sheryl, I always thought that some other sculpts like Neris and Airy seemed pretty mature despite not having smaller/narrower eyes. In the end it's all subjective though! I'm lowkey hoping to get Neris eventually for my own big sis-type OC unless Volks releases a different girl in the meantime that would fit her better.

I love Neris. She has such a pretty smile and cute round face.

 

As an example of how that head sculpt can look mature, I'm pretty sure Alphond Tan's awesome custom Kaede Takagaki is using a Neris head:

If you can find just a head the prices are more manageable, but that may take some patient searching. For some girls it will be easier than others. Once you have marketplace access here you can post a Want to Buy in the forums markets too. You may also find some better deals on bodies as long as you don't mind used. Honestly as long as the body has no stains, frame fractures, and hasn't been exposed to a lot of sunlight or cigarette smoke there isn't really much difference between a new and used DD.
