Yuriko and the Big Box

 

Yuriko: “Mama you got another one of these boxes? You have been getting one every month! What is even in here? It better be something nice for me.” *stops & thinks* “Oooh! Don’t tell me you’ve been secretly ordering Japanese sweets that you can eat and not sharing them with me?? That would be unforgivable!”

 

Mommy: "No Yuriko it's just my AmiAmi order."

 

 

Yuriko: “Ahhhh! So this is where you have been getting my cute girl posters!”

 

 

Yuriko: *madly rips open the package* “It IS full of cute girls!”

 

 

Yuriko: “Mama I get this one! This one’s mine! She’s so cute! Much better than Naiomi’s chibi girl!”

 

Mommy: “Hey, you be nice to Neko Nomi."

 

 

Yuriko: “I’m gonna open it! You can’t keep cute girls trapped! It’s inhumane!”

 

Mommy: “But that one is for Daddy so you have to wait until he gets back from the doctor to open it.”

 

Yuriko: “Oh poo.”

 

 

Yuriko: “But she has orange hair like me! And a wand so she can magic up sweets for me to eat ALL the time and Tama doesn’t have to worry about making something that would make you sick. Can’t I open the box and play with her as long as I put it back before Daddy gets home?”

 

Mommy: “No.”

 

 

Yuriko: “Fine.” *shoves the box to the side* “I will rescue you magical fairy girl as soon as I can.”

 

Mommy: “Why do you assume she's a fairy?”

 

Yuriko: “Looks like one from what Ringo always says.”

 

Mommy: “But I don’t think she has wings.”

 

Yuriko: “Whatever. I usually stop listening to Ringo when she goes on and on about fairytale stuff. Mama you can just make her some wings.”

 

Mommy: “Gee. thanks.”

 

 

Yuriko: “This girl looks like the ruffian type.”

 

Mommy: “That’s not a gir-”

 

Yuriko: “Of course it is. Boys don’t have such pretty hair, a beauty mark, or a pretty earring. She must have lost the other in a fight. She’s a real bad girl. I bet her family are in the Yakuza!”

 

Mommy: “What anime HAS Daddy been letting you watch?”

 

Yuriko: “Don’t you remember the ONE cute girl in the Yakuza 5 game? I have to plug my nose when Daddy plays that because of all the ugly boys that probably smell like Dolly stench.”

 

Mommy: You are probably right about that…” *snickers* “Now that you mention it ‘she’ does remind me of my favorite high school English teacher Miss Allen. Her short hair always looked cool like that. And being a spectacular Jazz singer in her free time just made her super cool.”

 

 

Yuriko: “I’m going to name her Missy!”

 

Missy: *in a clearly gruff alto voice* “Huh?”

 

Mommy: *snickers* “The more I look the more she reminds me of Ms. Allen.”

 

Missy: *mutters to herself* “I have landed in a nuthouse…”

 

 

Yuriko: "Just rest over here for a few minutes Missy and then this magical girl can make us some cookies. I need to see what other girls are imprisoned in that box."

 

 

Missy: *quietly* "Now if I just sneak away really slowly..."

 

 

Yuriko: "Mommy I need help! This stupid box won't open!"

 

Mommy: "Okay, hold on a sec."

 

 

Missy: "Just a bit further around this corner and I can make a run for it."

 

 

Corey: "Oy! Miss Ringo! There be a runner o'er 'ere!"

 

Yuriko: *grunting* "Why. Are. These. Stupid. Boxes. So. Hard. To. Open??"

 

 

Yuriko: "Finally!"

 

Ringo: "Fetch the deviant my little Prince!"

 

Rodjer: "Ribbit!"

 

 

Ringo: "So... What shall I do with you Missy?"

 

Missy: "My name's not Miss-"

 

Ringo: "I don't really think it best that you question what my big sister decided."

 

 

Ringo: "You see this book? It's really old. I've had it for years. It was given to me by someone very special and it is no ordinary book."

 

(It's not easy to read but it says 'Ringo's Notes' on the cover)

 

 

Missy: "Who cares about your stupid book? And tell this creep to let me go! His hands are cold and clammy."

 

 

Ringo: *her voice switches to a frightening tone despite her sweet smile* "Of course they are. He's a frog. All the good fairy tales have princesses and lots of them, but who needs a real prince when a frog prince will do just fine? Nobody wants to kiss a prince anyway. Nobody but Tama."

 

 

Ringo: "Anyway, all I had to do was take once of these colored pencils and write his name in here and what his story is and *POOF* a frog became a prince. Isn't that right Rodjer?"

Rodjer: "Riiiibbit."

 

 

Missy: "WHAT?"

 

Ringo: *smiling maliciously* "Now, what color should I use..."

 

Yuriko: "Ah! Got it open! Who made these so hard to remove?? It's like they don't really want you to open it. All the more reason to." *giggles*

 

Ringo: "Gold is much too good for you seeing that you already seem spoiled, thinking you can do whatever you want. Black would be much too fun. Didn't my sister say you were from a yakuza family? What's the fun in writing a story with such a predictable outcome? Hmmm... I haven't used green in a while... Then there is orange but what does that do again? I guess I could try and find out."

 

Missy: *makes a strangling sound, fearing some gruesome fate*

 

Ringo: "How about red? That's my favorite color!"

 

 

Yuriko: "Aren't you just a cutie patootie! We don't need two girls with short hair so we will change that right away but you have such pretty earrings!"

 

 

Yuriko: "Omygosh you look So perfect! Wanna see Mama??"

 

Mommy: "Sure. Let's see who we've got."

 

 

Yuriko: "I'm going to name her..." *tries to read the name on the box* "Mass-akey...? mass-ah-kayak? No wait. Japanese is read in reverse order so... Yami-mama Eeka-sam..."

 

Mommy: "Tha's not quite how it goes." *grimaces*

 

Yuriko: "Erika Sam? What kind of name is that? It's not pretty. I don't like any of those. How about just Miya? But that spelling is icky so her name is Mia!"

 

Mommy: "She is indeed cute and the name suits her." *grins*

 

 

Yuriko: "My cute little Mia-chan!" "Mia! Mia! Mia! Such a happy cute girl who is happy to be cute!!"

 

Ringo: *listens in*

 

 

Ringo: "There once was a girl named Missy. She was rude and seemed kinda prissy. Until fate took a hand, giving her a story luxuriously grand. Unbeknownst to her she is to play her part, with a willfully doting heart, when your love struck eyes set on a girl named Mia, over come with affection akin to hearing 'Ave Maria.'"

 

Yuriko: *in the background* "This is a magical girl who is going to make us lots of sweets so you can have what eeeever kind you want!"

 

 

Missy: "Is that supposed to be a rhyme or a limerick? Whatever you loon. I'm outta here. Color in your coloring books all you want."

 

 

Ringo: "Not my best work, but spur of the moment how many things can you think of to rhyme with Mia that isn't 'see ya'?"

 

Yuriko: *finally pays attention* "Sophia... tortilla... pizzeria... Korea... gonorr-"

 

Ringo: "Enough Yuriko. There are a lot of words that rhyme but few that are suitable.

 

Yuriko: *giggles*

 

 

Yuriko: "Here Mia, you can meet the other new girl that just moved into town. She's rough around the edges but she has a yummy gooey caramel heart inside. Not a real one though. She just doesn't like people to see past her tough girl exterior."

 

Mia: "Missy! Hey Missy!! Can we be best friends? I just got this new book from my favorite series. Can we read it together??"

 

Missy: "This is stupid! It's still just Masa-" *turns around, stumbling backwards a couple of steps*

 

 

Missy: "Erg!"

 

Yuriko: "Isn't she so CUTE~!"

 

Missy: "..."

 

 

Missy: "No, this is wrong... so very very wrong... She's so freaking CUTE! Gah! I can't think like that! Come on brain, what are you doing? You know who this really is!"

 

Ringo: "No need to thank me. Just call me your Fairy God Author. Oh, and your welcome."

 

Missy: "I think I'm having a heart attack! Why is it suddenly racing? Oh god... those glasses are really going to do me in... And why did it have to be a pleated skirt? And those hair bows. I will not admit how damn cute she is! Oh *bleep* what am I saying?!?"

 

Ringo: *chuckles maliciously* "Don't worry, your assimilation into our household will be quick. It will be less painful if you just accept your new character role."

 

~~ The Next Day ~~

 

 

Yuriko is found lazing about in bed...

 

Yuriko: *in a high pitched Mia voice* "And then maybe after the beach we can go shopping! I don't know what kind of school we go to now but we need new clothes before the end of summer! Us new girls need to make the right impression."

 

Yuriko: *in a gruff Missy voice* "Yeah. Sure."

 

 

Yuriko: *Missy voice* "I need more stockings. This is my last pair that weren't ripped apart in a fight. I don't know how but they just explode."

 

 

Yuriko: *still Missy voice* "I don't know who thought that was a brilliant 'design feature' or if I just need to quit buying cheap socks-"

 

Yuriko: *interrupts with Mia's voice* "Ahh! That reminds me! I had the weirdest dream last night!"

 

Mia: *interrupts the interruption* "Wait a minute! I DID! I was standing in this big vast white space and all I could hear was this scribbling sound. I ran and ran and ran to see where it was coming from. After a long, long few seconds out of nowhere these wide red slashes appeared all around me! And then it was like everything zoomed out and I was looking at a tiny me standing on a massive book, with another me writing in it! I was the big me now and I kept writing and writing and writing because someone was behind me whispering in my ear what I should be writing. But the weirdest thing was I was writing all about me! By then my head started to hurt. It was far too much to think about so somehow I was little again!"

 

Missy: *shifts uncomfortably*

 

Mia: "Out of no where you popped up Missy! I was so happy to see you. I was feeling kinda lonely. And there you were running at me with your arms reaching out. You said 'Mia! I found you! At long last I found you. I thought I was going to be crushed by this humongous red pencil that kept chasing me. I was so scared I wanted to cry!'"

 

Missy: *stands there dead silent, looking more than a little shocked* "Who even thinks I talk like that?"

 

 

Mia: *still rattling on a few minutes later* “And then you were like ‘Mia! You are more cute than a baby raccoon snuggling with a fluffy, fluffy kitten! I want to touch your BOOBS!’ And I was like ‘Really?? Because that’s just what I was thinking about you!’"

 

Missy: *thinking to herself* 'Shut up Mia! This is just too creepy! Quit saying what's already in my head! Something about all this seems like it should be wrong somehow but I just can't put my finger on it. And with you being so adorable I can't concentrate! Dang it Mia you bubblehead! Why am I falling for a girl like you. I could beat you up with my pinky you are such a frosted cornflake. I've beat up thugs twice my size without receiving a scratch. So then why do I want to do nothing more than drag you into an alley and kiss you until you giggle? Damn it Mia...' *blushes profusely*

 

...Mysteriously within just a few scant days, the newly befriended yuri girls never recalled that they ever had any other life than what they now had. Even their new past was filled out, as if a ghostwriter was filling in all the blanks.

 

And they lived happily ever after?

I love it. SO glad Yaya doesn't have a book like that.

This was just supposed to be Yuriko helping open the new figures... but ended up being entirely different. I ordered the two boys because I thought they were cute but had not at all expected this result. I know nothing about what they are from either. It was an 'Oh crud' moment when Corey jumped in because he is the chibi version of one of the demigods from my fantasy world who was simply amused to see what would happen.

 

And Ringo... it wasn't supposed to seem like a weird Death Note variation even though it turned out that way. There is a lot of background info in affect here that I couldn't explain at the time without the story derailing any further. It isn't the notebook that changes things. Frankly it was made from old note paper a few minutes before and Ringo knows it. She was just using it to intimidate poor Missy. In my further "DD in Lennador" (my fantasy world) stories, Ringo thinks she knows how the stories go since she is the daughter of the author, but has to be taught over time that isn't the case at all. Ringo thinks that being an author means one big game of playing god, and since she is 'an author in training' that it's practically the same thing. There are good parts about it, like her trying to teach Tama the 'rules of the story' and how barging in on characters that they already know and love will not have the same reaction if the story isn't told properly. But then there are the down sides like when she thinks that she can write whatever stories she wants... It isn't helped by the fact that in Lennador she is a magical girl of sorts and her 'fighting' ability is based on 'the pen is mightier than the sword.' Worse yet (if you ask me) there is one distinctive wizard who keeps meddling in her life, giving things I personally don't think she should have. Like her magical quill that allows her to write, or rewrite, stories. And that's more what the colored pencils represent.

 

Despite her sweet exterior, this little apple can at times have a rather rotten core. She adores and dotes on her fairy tales but you can be sure there is more Grimm to her than Hans Christian Anderson. She gets away with so much with that sweet smile! And those glasses... I got them thinking they would work for Kyoya (forgetting he already had a pair) and Ringo just asked to try them on. Biggest. Mistake. Ever. Raven calls them her Evil Glasses of Evil because it makes her level of cute completely deadly. It is near impossible to refuse her because she is so overwhelmingly adorable. The moment she put them on with her new hair it was like everything clicked into place, she was complete. Neither one of us can imagine her without glasses anymore. It would just be wrong.

 

Another reason for the direction of the photo story is just how much it amuses me of the contrast between Missy and Mia. Every single time we get a new Kiddo (DD scale) or someone in the Chibi Bunch (11cm scale/Nendoroid/Obitsuroid) I'm always amused to see how they handle the change. (Dolly arrived about a week before Tama and he started out rather charming and sweet, making up these clever faux Shakespearean lines... certainly not the Dolly we have now! LOL!) A lot of them are like Mia and their life just becomes what it is. But there is the occasional defiant one like Missy who need to be cornered into their role. Ringo just took it much more literally. Yuriko was just making up whatever she felt like and would have kept to her version of their stories even if the duo had remained boys. Ringo was not satisfied with that especially when she could write a yuri story instead (hence her comment about Tama and his yaoi stories.) She seems to think the Chibi Bunch are her minions because she asked for a 'fairy village' back when we had less than eight 11cm Obitsu bodies and I bought dollhouses for Po, Bjørn, Strawberry, and one for Raven's 11cm girl Ada. (The Chibi Bunch now outnumbers the DD with 35+ strong and the finished Kiddos not quite 30 once Luka and my preorders arrive in the late fall.) So any new member of the Chibi Bunch she decides that it's her right to meddle in their stories if she wishes. Thankfully this is the first one she has been so heavy-handed with. As for me, I find "frosted cornflake" Mia and tough girl Missy to be far more amusing characters than I could have anticipated. And Mia is SO CUTE!

 

The last box that I didn't get to was casual version Yuri Plisetsky. Originally I thought Yuriko would toss out the two previous boys, only making slight comments that one looked like a yakuza girl and the other needed prettier hair, only to go bonkers over Yuri. (If you don't know anything about the anime Yuri on Ice; there are two Yuri's (both boys)- Yuri Katsuki (Japanese) and Yuri Plisetsky (Russian, who is given the nickname Yurio.)) So Yuriko was going to go bonkers over "the blond girl Yuri!" and go the whole turn him into a girl route even though Yurio is already a distinctive character already. (I love my YOI boys )

 

So in the end it turned out for the best because I was struggling to finish this as it is. I've been wanting to do DD stories again for a while but the Chibi Bunch is regularly the size I have energy for. Things are going better for me, but only because I've learned I've had to scale back my life to fit within my 'acceptable tolerance levels' to keep the dangerous backlash at bay. I really hated having to do this all on the bed but standing up and taking a series of pics like I used to just isn't physically possible. Still trying to think of how to adapt things so I can do pics the way I prefer but it isn't going to happen in summer. Simply the heat has reduced my tolerance by 2/3 or more, basically making me useless. I never intended this story to be so long either. I've just missed spending time with the Kiddos and doing pics that I'm dealing with the backlash just to have that little bit of normalcy back.

 

It has been so hard and so very slow relearning how to live my life, but step by step I'm getting there. Every time it feels like nothing will change I just have to recall the foods just this month I've been able to add back into what I can eat because we have found safe recipes or ingredient sources. The 'world changing' ones for me are orange juice(!!!) Raven found without citric acid, organic carob powder (chocolate makes me sick I think because how it is processed, but I've always liked carob better) so now I can have cocoa in winter, ice cream(!!; technically frozen banana 'soft serve' but we always had frozen bananas growing up so the banana taste doesn't bother me), ranch dip (tofu & avocado as the base but it still tastes right to me), garbanzo crepes to use as flour tortilla replacements (I love cramming tons of veggies in wraps and I thought for a long time I'd never be able to have them again), and I finally figured out a soy sauce replacement using dehydrated & powdered crimini mushrooms, salt, water and a tiny bit of lemon juice. Sure it still tastes like mushrooms but I don't see that as a bad thing. I'm stunned that I actually get cake and ice cream for my birthday, and my maple cinnamon vanilla 'ice cream' test ended up tasting like a flavored whipped topping that would go well on Thanksgiving pies. I don't mean to talk about food so much but it has been one of the most devastating things to me because of how much time Tama would spend with me when I was cooking. So with having to constantly battle with everything my body won't tolerate anymore it was just a distinct reminder of how much of a connection I had lost with him as well as hardly being able to work on my projects. But with food as an example I can remind myself that I can figure out how to get back to doing what I love, even if it takes time.

 

 

 

Plus with the biggest Chibi Bunch set Tama and Hana were able to help work on it. Maybe I should Tama to help motivate me to get the brick walls and sky pieces added to this so it will be finished. Too bad I don't have a fix for my short attention span and fractured focus making it really hard to get anything completed.

SK your house is turning into a nendoroid breeding zone. Eventually you’ll have more of them than DDs. Do they each have one of their own yet?

But I don’t think there’s anything wrong with buying nendoroids one likes the look of and assigning different characters (or genders) to them - especially because we do that all the time with DDs.

I really like Ringo with glasses, it makes definitely a good look for her.

I'm so happy to hear you have been adding foods to your diet! That's great news. And hopefully as you eat more you'll get some strength back to spend time with your dollies. I'm sure they miss you as much as we do.

Oh my god, Missy is SO CUTE. A grouchy lil soft butch (with a violent past!) catching feelings by accident... tough girl exterior and rough around the edges... Of course she's a girl and a ruffian! Ringo might have a lot to learn but I like her storytelling already

This was really fun to read! Not having energy to do the things you want really stinks (I've been there, but for probably different reasons), but summer should be over relatively soon and then you can get back to your Kiddos.
