AntElitist Posted December 21, 2011 I have been thinking why am I in this hobby given the situation now. Is it because it's "cool"? or just because you find others like a certain stormtrooper has it, and so you must have them? I don't understand why though am I in this "hobby". Surprise surprise I remember getting Mashiro back then is to write stories, take pictures. And most importantly, love her lots. Now what? Nobody likes my stories, nobody likes my photos, and I dare to say there isn't any helpful community for DD once you screwed up something. So no one is given a second chance anymore? How realistic the "helpfulness" it is! It's all nice, fine and dandy until something screwed up. Oh wait. Happens everywhere. Either that, or just pure jealousy. I know I screwed up somewhere along my journey 2 years ago and that's the end for me. I can't sell Mashiro due to lost of money, and I can't do anything else since there's no one appreciating my stuffs as people are going ballistic towards their "friends" stuffs. Can't apologize anyway, nobody to accept as they are comfortable with themselves without "Oh that asshole again". Even if I forcefully post up a picture, it's not the same anymore. The feeling of sincerity isn't there after going through everything. Let alone saying getting forceful comments and fake cheap favourites from the community you deemed biased. It will just feels fake. Even if I give a honest response, it will be disregarded. Nothing matters anymore if it's related to me apparently. Isn't it better if I just buy DD and sell them off at a very high price to let people get them at "2nd nice chance"? Always nice to watch the whole world burn with all these politics after going through everything Also I don't expect any comment from anyone here since well, it's me who posted this thread anyway, the "oh that asshole again". If it's some other people there's definitely comments. I will bump this.

Nightmare Tea Posted December 21, 2011 My purpose? To motivate me to do something good for me with my time. Like sewing, instead of being on the computer all day. And photography instead of sitting and being lazy. Plus these dolls are so gorgeous, I can't say no!
Galvatim Posted December 21, 2011 I think the purpose of any hobby is to have fun, and to get away from the real world, if only for a little bit. As for the Dollfie hobby specifically, for me it started as "bigger is better." I like action figures, I like anime, and when I saw Saber on a Type-Moon message board, I though she would be the prefect centerpiece for my Fate/Stay Night collection! Of course, I had no idea how to get one, a thought they would show up on HLJ... I should mention that, overall, I think the difference between most dolls and action figures is just marketing. Anyway, my DD hobby has helped me come out of my shell and make new friends. I've improved as a photographer (not much in my opinion), and I've been able to do some creative writing by making photo-stories. And I have a big, almost 2 foot tall Kanu to play around with. I think you've taken some great photos of Mashiro, and I think you had an interesting story going on back on Figure.FM. If you really don't get any enjoyment out of the Dollfie hobby anymore, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you can find the fun again, be it in the Dollfie Dream hobby, or something new.
Kumi Posted December 21, 2011 figure.fm has issues. Technical ones (friend of mine couldn't post her "for sale" thread at all, so I had to do it) and "personal" ones as well. I dare to say, that this site is partially responsible for the spike in DD prices. Especially for Yuki Big group of people saw the pretty DDs and now they all want them too. But all of them doesn't necessarily share our point of view on DDs. That they're pretty subjects for artistic photos, for example and they don't complain during photoshoot (not always, but still...) I can bet, some of them are simply all like "Whoa, ANIME BOOBS, must have them" and I probably won't find with them any common language So many times You see the post with many comments and inside is almost always a pantyshot or a suggestive cleavage. Or even the doll is all wet and inside the bathroom. Well... My stories doesn't have much feedback there, too. And I like Your photos. So I simply stopped to visit figure.fm - most of the nice DD community is here anyway And I have only limited time.

Pupi Posted December 21, 2011 To learn new things, to try a new kind of collection, have new friends, join new communities, improve my creativity and my skills in sewing and crafting! I have never thought customizing things could be so cool until I discovered the DD world: it's funnier than garage kit! ^^ The people I have met in the DD communities around are awesome... PlasticFantastic Posted December 21, 2011 As a figure collector who branched on to DD's as an extension of the hobby the 'transformation' of figure.fm into a more doll-focussed website REALLY annoyed me. There was doll.fm but it seems like everyone just posts on figure.fm anyway and so it became very hard to find posts about FIGURES through all the DD stuff! Anyway, I will say that Danny Choo revealed the existence of Dollfie Dream to me, just like he did for figma and nendos and PVC's. For a long time I was unsure because of the price and also some well known DD owners in the community sexualize their dolls (to each his own, but that's not my thing) After a year of thinking and debating it was announced that there would be a Saber Lily DD and I could not say no to my favourite incarnation of Saber... and with that, my foray into Dollfie Dream began. With the purchase of my experimental girl Elle I learned how much I really enjoyed these dolls. There was so much to customize, wigs, eyes, clothes, bust, etc.. So I could really express myself through the dolls. I enjoy looking at them and posing them and dressing them, they're fun to photograph and they represent a new growth in my life and how they have changed my inner circle of friends. It's hard to really say there's a "purpose" to the hobby, since it's a leisurely activity that sucks up money, but I'd say the purpose of the hobby is to express myself. ^_^ 1 Please visit my YouTube channel for helpful DD tips, tutorials, and reviews! LordNoir Posted December 22, 2011 Hey all, I'm relatively new to the DD sides of the hobby, so forgive me that I know nothing in regards to figure.fm or other DD focused sites aside from this one. I used to browse on Den of Angels exclusively until I came across this forum, and have since been finding myself here more often. For me, this hobby is about creativity. A blank doll, vinyl or resin, is like a canvas upon which to create something interesting and beautiful. True, some are not considered beautiful to all people, but art has always been a rather subjective thing. I love how despite not being human, it's so easy to give human qualities to them, for them to seem to develop personalities and characters. I suppose that makes me seem even more the mad scientist, trying to create that illusion of life where none previously existed. MisterAmishrolf Posted December 22, 2011 like with others, its mostly for the collecting, but also for the customization. i love figmas as they are and am content with them. they're customizable up to a point, especially when one wouldn't come with as much as another. they're interchangeable (hand parts, accessories, etc.), but there are particular limits, i think. with DDs, there is customization all across the board. basically, build your own figure/doll/model. DJStarstryker Posted December 25, 2011 I'm not really a doll fan or a collector. I got into DDs when Danny Choo first posted about DD Rin about 3 years ago. It was love at first sight. I still haven't seen the Fate/Stay Night series (though I did just recently play Fate/Extra), so it had nothing to do with attachment to the character. I just thought she looked amazing. I have 2 more dolls coming next year (both DD Saber Alter v2s - one will be turned into a custom) but it was a similar thing. I fell in love with Alter v2 at first sight, but at the same time she put an idea in my head of how I could make a custom. It has been 2 1/2 years since I brought Rin home. I feel like if I was truly a collector, I would've bought more before now. I don't have any kids or pets, so I kinda treat Rin like a non-living daughter. Same will go with the new dolls. Are you ready to rock? ^_^
puxlavoix Posted December 26, 2011 I really dont know whats the pourpose for me , i like figures and anime but wouldnt consider my self a collector. I guess i just like cool toys . The first time I saw Danny Choo´s daughters I didnt even know who he was or what those "big figures" were but I fell in love right away and wanted my own but didnt know what for though, later found out about customization, picture taking and everything else... So for me its about they being SO beautiful, its about photography (which i suck at but has given me a side hobby ), about sharing with folks online and also spending time with her as some kind of beautiful daughter/pet to make things for Bottom line for me its 50% about having a non living daughter and 50% about sharing whaterver you like with people you know both online and offline, without the sharing portion of it i guess it would be kind of pointless. sharddarkness Posted December 27, 2011 my purpose? Well...I used to be a collector of figures. You know transformers, GI Joes and what not... For me...having the DDs is a way to create characters that appear in my mind, maybe... Syann and Ash were loosely based on a couple characters I had for a story... Anesska is from a old story styled RPG game I used to play years ago while Rain kept appearing in my dreams. Honestly...maybe I'm collecting them because I'm lonely... animex99 Posted December 28, 2011 Dollfie Dreams are just so beautiful! I have alota hobbies, and I think a major part of all of them are customization. Making something your own really helps to tie you into the hobby. I collected figures for a while, and DDs are even better because you give them personalities which helps to build a bond with them. I like buying new clothes, and things for my girls. I think they also help bring a smile to you whenever you see them. Photography is also something I'm interested in. DDs are perfect models. They don't complain about being tired and will wear anything you want them to. =D

wgn_white Posted December 28, 2011 WHAT'S THE POINT OF HAVING a DOLLFIE? NOTHING I just want it... Beside, TS you are the one to POISON me to act. Well, Actually I already have the desires, it's just not too strong before. From my own purpose... There's many souls wandering on earth... I believe in God, so there's will ghost as well. So, how's the idea to bring a Dollfie to life by letting one of these souls occupied our Dollfie? If you think I'm crazy, then we all must be crazy to treat a Dollfie like a real person. milkytea Posted December 28, 2011 For me, Dollfie Dream is an extension of my more general interest in dolls. My hobby's purpose is to give me an excuse to buy cute doll clothing~! ♥ (And forms to wear it.)
Traveller Posted December 28, 2011 Being in the UK, Living in the countryside, No access to a car (on medical grounds), I stuck really. If there is anything, I come from a model building background and having built loads of character driven figures or space ships, I think a blank DD is a good way of being creative and having a charcater you own the copyright on, although the template is based on another company idea. While researching for the trip to Japan this year on Danny Choo, I came across Baldylox's Yoko and fell in love with the doll. Love her so much she is a GRail/Unicorn doll for me. Seeing the price put me off some what, but the model building side kicked in and I went down that route as mentioned above. I've made some freinds here, but at times feel I'm on my own, especially when my mother saw "Tomomi" standing around with Sae & Aoi and said "Not another one" The purpose of the hobby allows me to create my own characters, but it comes at a price ..... people think i'm weird. This may explain why my girls don't show up here in gallery much
Till Troll Posted December 28, 2011 At first Meade was bought just to be a clotheshorse for cosplay, as I was starting to feel self conscious about cosplaying, and I got the impression from people who had been cool with it before that cosplay was no longer acceptable now I was married (although, not from my husband ). Maybe that was just in my head. I was also already customising 1/6th scale dollfies, and a DD seemed like a natural progression. I also liked the idea of a cosplayer with a perfect figure, and as my old costumes took up so much room, I also wanted to recycle them into costumes for her. Once I got her home tho, I started having more fun making her normal clothes and props! I still have a cosplay to make list as long as my arm, but it's also joined by maid outfits, jeans, dresses and wigs. This hobby to me has made me rediscover how much I love sewing when I don't have a convention deadline looming, or the self consciousness of having to wear the cosplay myself hanging over my head. It's also the customising, the painting, and the making the doll yours that I really like. Seeing the many different faces a single mold can have via this website, I think these dolls can be just as expressive for someone as drawing or sculpting. jazz2cool Posted January 11, 2012 Good topic! Well for me it was a miracle to find out about this hobbie! I was searching for a hobbie like this without even knowing I was. I knew I loved dolls, and I loved anime. But I had know idea their was a hobbie that combined the two. For a time I collected barbies, but that fad faded quickly and I fell out of intrest. THen I started to collect brats dolls which fed my intrest for a moment but didn't quet get the "thrill" I was looking for.But the day I happened upon volks website, before I knew it here I am! A dollfie dream fanatic! I think what I was searching for was not just a doll that looked nice, but something I could create and make my own since I love to draw so much and could create my own characters from this doll. Or better yet have my favorite characters from my favorite anime's right in my room. So I guess this hobbie is sort of a artistic expression of myself to others. Those who hate liers.....are liers themselfs
chibinezumi Posted January 16, 2012 To be able to express creativity and take away my stress is why I am involved in this. I love being able to spend time with my girls and make little improvements to things. I can be completely detail oriented and spend hours on small things but as long as it is still a fun pass time I will stay with this hobby.
vhdangel Posted January 20, 2012 Enjoyment, pure and simple. I love anime, and I like toys and figures. DDs are an extension of that. I mean, they're GIANT ANIME DOLLS. Their customization possibilities are endless, and I love changing out the eyes, wigs, and outfits and just generally posing and playing with them. It always amazes me how just changing the eyes or trying on a different colored wig can totally change the entire look of a doll. Plus I get to dress them in all these adorable clothes. I try to take photos when I remember to, but it's not a key focus for me. But I love looking at other owner's photos online, and I really enjoy getting to meet cool new people who share the same interest in these dolls.
Mahoro Posted January 24, 2012 Something different. I was getting a little tired of never being able to do anything with my figures other than look at them (and no, I'm not a huge fan of figmas....people who complain about BJD joints never seem to complain about figma joints that you can't even cover up). Dollfies were the perfect upgrade! ...so that was the original purpose anyway. Right now, its an excuse to learn a new hobby (sewing, eventually a bit of painting for faceups), as well as having something to play with, and a friend to keep me company. A bit on the childish side for purposes, but there isn't any point to life if you can't have a bit of fun like any other kid, right?
otakusan Posted January 25, 2012 I really enjoy taking pictures, but people eventually complain too much.. DDs will let me post them all I want all day long, and they still have a great smile on them at the end of the day
