What do you think: KOS-MOS, M.O.M.O., or Kaede?

Have Kos-Mos & M.O.M.O, and both are great. Don't have Kaede (yet,) but so far she looks pretty good.

Ranka seems pretty happy since Sheryl and Freyja got here. They seem a fairly content crew.

 

Cynthia has been quite vehemently against new girls because their airfare cuts into her wardrobe budget.

 

That only leaves Amber, Candy, and Tecra. They wouldn't do anything like that. Would they?

Momo's my favorite out of the three! She has a versatile but not too generic face, and her defaults are very cute.

I had that picture saved on my phone for years, and it's what my mind jumps to when I think "cute Dollfie"! Kos-Mos and Kaede are cute, but Kos-Mos's face has a little hint of melancholy, and Kaede looks so pulled together. Momo just looks natural and sweet - not sure if that's what you're going for with your crew, but that's why she's my favourite. (The pictured Momo does have a custom faceup, but still. So cute!)

Where are you seeing her for 50k? Mandarake and Yahoo! Japan seem to average 70 - 85k. 50k is a very good price if it's an intact, undamaged, full set.

There's one on Mandarake for 50K. She has a stain on her ankle, but seems otherwise OK from the pics and is complete.

If I were choosing between those three for myself it'd be M.O.M.O. because I don't like Kaede's open mouth or KOS-MOS' head sculpt in general, while M.O.M.O. I really like though I don't like her outfit all that much and don't really know the character so she'd probably be like "M.O.M.O. after retirement from saving the universe" for me and dressed as someone else. Ramcoy's pictures of her show how nice she looks with different wigs and styles.

 

As an addition to your set of girls though, KOS-MOS I think is a great choice because she's very different to the rest of what you have both because of her outfit and that head sculpt. She's got that mature style that along with your Sheryl but isn't too common on DDs.

 

I've always felt M.O.M.O.'s head looks pretty similar to Ranka's so that is one thing to consider, though maybe they only look that way to me.

I will say that I've seen enough customized M.O.M.O's to say she is a very versatile sculpt. Pretty sure there are some threads in the photo sections that show what can be done just with new eyes, and someone here has taken her to Japan a few times and posted photos.

 

Edit: Just one other note. If she does lack her fullset, she may be less desirable, and that means she needs a good home with someone who is ok with her being imperfect. Sorry kind of anthropomorphizing her here.

Hmmm. It seems they use that same pic of the partial costume for all the current listings. That 50K one has been on there for a while. I could have sworn I've seen the full costume shown on it.

KOS-MOS and M.O.M.O. have the advantage that I have an attachment to them. I played through all three of the Xenosaga games. Both were key DDs that set me on this path.

 

For me a big part of the draw of KOS-MOS is her fullset. Of course, then I'd need to hunt down her cannons. And then she'd hardly ever be in any of that because it's such a stain monster. On the plus side, I've seen that Kos-mos is far more versatile than she first seems. In fact, I'd say from owner photos that she's vastly better as a non-Kos-Mos doll than as a Kos-Mos doll.

 

As already observed, M.O.M.O. is just too cute. She's probably one of the best DD representations of an existing character. All she really needed was a bow in her fullset.

My vote there would actually go for Ranko Kanzaki; her sculpt is a dead ringer for the character.

 

Kos-Mos was my first DD, and yeah the games were why. She never wears her full-set, and I don't often pose her with the weapons. Just takes way too much space.

 

She's even rarer now than M.O.M.O from what I can tell.

 

As far as that particular M.O.M.O. goes there is likely to be a reason that she is 20k less than the others they have up. Maybe it's something other than the doll though.

If you decide you want her I'd just ask. The description (a little better on the Japanese page) is pretty emphatic that the outfit is complete and unused; that page also states the head is mint--I guess that's what "beauty" means lol. Typically for incomplete items they have a note like "only what is shown is included" or such.

 

I don't think the price really reflects anything missing necessarily. 10K difference between used and not used is pretty typical for their pricing on DDs, so 20K isn't unheard of I don't think.

I just learned something--I thought she came with one cannon since the box shows that; I see I was clearly wrong.

 

I've seen KOS-MOS DDs that are being something other than KOS-MOS, and also the inverse. Singer Yuna's avatar pic is Rise dressed in KOS-MOS' outfit and that looks great.

 

Anyway, those guns are easy to come by on Mandarake, and have recently gone down as they're 6000 yen now, down from 10K as I recall:

Mandarake has recently lowered prices on items that they have a lot of and I guess this is one.

You can't find the gun searching for KOS-MOS; searching "balkan" seems to be the best way to find it.

A while back I went through a list of released DDs to see things I might want. There's ones that are so expensive now I'll never have unless they are rereleased, a few that have somewhat increased prices I'd consider getting anyway, and just a very few that are still something like their original price that I consider...M.O.M.O. and Rin Tohsaka v2 were the ones in that category.

Those are certainly better than the official Volks pictures. However, sometimes the production dolls have the faceup changed a little from the original prototypes, so until she's actually released there won't be any definitive pictures for sure.

If you decide you want her I'd just ask.

 

That's really what I am getting at. I'm not saying don't get her, I'm saying don't walk in blind. The difference is $180 below the next one up in price, and she is only ¥2000 more than a ¥48,000 one that lists a stained outfit and missing parts.

 

It could just be the store has had her too long and wants to move her, but better to know up front if anything is wrong.

I have made my decision, and my decision is... drumroll...

Maybe I'll invite a new DD home later in the year, but it was time to give videogaming some love.

 

Ultimately, I think I can let Kaede slip by. Maybe I can eventually hunt down a Kos-Mos head, because in the end I think she's better as not-Kos-Mos and the fullset looks to be a pain. But I'm leaning strongly towards M.O.M.O. as a later in the year purchase.

 

Of course, nothing is ever that simple. The thought of a second Ranka occurred to me. Also, I noticed that maybe I could snag a Saber Extra for a semi-reasonable amount, but I probably won't do that because I'd rather hold out hope that Volks will re-release Saber Lily.

DollfieWord has a Saber Extra and they do layaways on most dolls. Extra is very different from Lily, different sculpt, L Bust, and whole new outfit.

 

If you do get an Extra, her wig is very tight on her head, and you may want to take her head off and carefully work her head into the wig. The hook on her bodice is really tight too, and it’s easier to pull the bust partway off, hook the bodice on with the hook part at the narrowest point of the torso, then slide the bust back in place. I ended up having to sew the hook back on after it snapped off when I tried to get it on the normal way.

 

She’s a beautiful doll though, and I don’t mind having both her and Lily.

Extra is certainly my favorite of the regular Saber heads. She has a prettier faceup with actual eyelashes. Alter scares me a bit since she's white skin which I know yellows, or does so more visibly.

 

The new one will be interesting to see user pics of because she seems to have a more "girly" faceup as well. All we have so far is Volks pics and they haven't even really showed a detailed face shot.

 

I like the Saber sculpt but I don't really care about her outfits or wig so I should really just look for a head. Sometimes Volks outfits use a Saber with one of their standard short hair wigs as their model and I really like her look like that. Like the pics of the "Saturday at the Aquarium" outfit here:

I love how Saber looks with that short shaggy wig. I don't really like the hair bun thing of her actual design so I prefer these over her real wigs.

No, not at all.

 

I think I've said it before, but in terms of the Fate franchise it's almost all about figures for me. Certain variants of Saber just look cool.

 

Saber Extra/Saber Nero is complicated for me. Technically, she's the Saber I've had the most exposure to in the games vita Fate/Extra on the PSP and Fate/Extella on the Vita. I first saw this variant of the character design via the following figure:

I insta-pre-ordered that figure back in the day. Just look at those promo images! Can you entirely blame me? Well, when I got it, I was disappointed with it.

 

The paint and detail on the figure is great. It has other issues. For one, the figure is very small. For another, one of her shins has this strange sculpt that makes it look deformed from any other angle than straight ahead. The figure also has this strange leaning stance to it that makes it look absolutely ludicrous from any other direction than dead on. My unhappiness with the figure tainted my impression of this design.

 

And it's funny, because after the Saber Lily variants it's my next favorite look for Saber. Well... except for those greaves. Maybe it's hypocritical considering I'm fine with armored Lily, but the greaves Saber Nero sports on bare legs look silly.

 

A funny thing happened because of this thread. I realized that the Saber headsculpt I prefer is Saber Extra. So I guess what I've been wanting all this time is a Saber Extra head in a Saber Lily costume. Hmmmm.

I haven't seen any FATE media, but have a bunch of Rin / Saber figures including the one you have above. All boxed up now though, the dolls kicked them out and took over.

 

I think in terms of character looks I prefer Rin to Saber. In the realm of DD to my own taste Saber Lily has best face sculpt, but I suspect Rin V1 is just as nice in person.

 

You won't be able to get Saber Lily's outfit on Saber Extra unless you downgrade her to an M or S bust. The upper part of Extra's bodice is a separate piece made of stretchy material. It's made for an L, but can fit an M bust reasonably well. It will be very oversized on an S.

 

Saber Extra does have those shin parts, and the boots. The boots actually replace her feet like with Lily, Asuna, and Kos-Mos. You can just put her in the dress without them, and give her a pair of red heels.

 

The sword is too large to be practical for displaying her unless you have a lot of space.

Edit: I think Extra’s outfit might look good with a pair of red leather thigh boots. The front part is gossamer so anything you put on her legs should show through.
