Magical Mirai 2018

While it would have been cool to see more outfits announced, I'm actually quite excited for Sakura Miku. I keep toying with the idea of getting a Miku, and maybe Sakura Miku will be the one...

I feel the same way. Miku has a versatile, expressive face sculpt. I almost bought Snow Miku, but I think I might prefer Sakura Miku a little more.

Magical Mirai 2018

 

I wonder if the set list differs the next day like it did last year.

Apparently the set list differed between Osaka and Tokyo.

 

I really wish they’d update the set list a lot more because it’s kind of aggravating having so many repeat songs. I didn’t mind it as much last year because it was fitting for the 10th anniversary....but I watched a livestream of part of the 2018 concert that was broadcast on TokyoMX the other night (which was only the Miku songs plus the RinLen theme) and I actually almost groaned to see World is Mine again...and I LIKE that song. I wish they’d give more spotlight to up and coming producers than just defaulting to the ‘classics’. Miku’s been around 11 years now and yet hardly any of the set list is from the past 5 years... new models would be nice, too. It’s just frustrating to me how much harder it is for new producers to get any recognition compared to the earlier days of vocaloid fandom, because the people in charge of events don’t seem to have faith in them. But even if they want to stick with the guaranteed crowd pleaser producers I wish they could at least use more of their newer songs...

 

(Still, I was happy to see GigaP’s new song as the RinLen theme for this year. I just hate that they chose those Project Diva modules that don’t even really suit the song (they’re honestly my least favourite ones on top of that)and clash with the yellow/black theme... they made a new module for Miku’s 2018 theme so I wish they’d done the same for RinLen... /complaincomplain if the concerts are still so dependent on Project Diva assets I wish Sega could just give us a new Project Diva game already.)

I suspect Project Diva is dead or on extended hiatus given how PDX sold (or didn't) and that it didn't get song DLC like F 2nd did. And how long it's been since anything really plus the home release of Future Tone probably changing what people may expect in terms of song count.

(I'll be an enabler on Sakura Miku. That's the one I always said I'd get and then I went and bought a Snow Miku this year...so I guess that's gotta wait a while before I bring home another lol.)

I'm still thinking about it. I liked last year's better but that's not happening. I'd also rather it show back up on Mandarake because I don't like buying from ebay.

I much preferred F and F2nd over X; I liked the songs better, and all the PVs being basically just dancing or concert style was a big step back from the previous games; I suspect it was also a cost-cutting measure. I hated that the Diva Points system was replaced by grinding to unlock things, which also thus forces me to play songs I don't like. I also really dislike the "rush" "jam on a button as fast as you can" gameplay mechanic. Linked stars in F2nd could be annoying but this was worse. Just an aesthetic thing, but I also hated the thing it does when you get a new module that interrups the PV, though if I remember you can at least turn that off. If X hadn't had a few songs I really like and like the PV for such as Mitchie M's Ai Dee (Luka!) (

) I wouldn't have even bought it, and I didn't for a long time.

 

I'm poor at rhythm games and I think Future Tone is beyond what I'll ever be able to actually play, though I bought it anyway after the physical release Future Tone DX came out in Japan and got the special edition with all the videos on blu-ray discs.

 

I don't like playing music games on a small controller so I am also one of the crazy people that own the large Project Diva F controller Hori made, and it was a big disappointment that controller didn't work on X and that they didn't make another one compatible with PS4. Worse was that game least it got the small controller and one themed for Future Tone, but not one actually made to mimic how the arcade game works.

 

Further Vita releases probably aren't happening. Physical cartridge production is officially over for US and EU releases; in some interview SCEJ was asked and said that wasn't true for Japan though. I suspect that may be another issue with Sega deciding how to move forward, since the games have generally sold better on Vita. X did by a huge margin though that version came out much earlier probably skewing the results, but so did F2nd where they came out together. Maybe they'll do PS4 + Switch like some are doing but the audience that existed on Vita may not necessarily be there.

Ooh boy. If it’s PDX’s fault that the Diva series wound down I’ll be so mad because it’d just be the cherry on the top of issues I had with that game. I’m a HUGE fan of the series, I have bought each game as it came out since the very first one on PSP, and every single release had been an improvement over the last game until X, which was a step backwards. It’s been so long I played it I totally forgot about the stupid random drop thing. It was like they were trying to do be like a mobile game solely because mobile games are ‘trendy’ but failing to take into account the fact that mobile games are also free to play and I expect a bit more for a game that cost 6000 - 7000 yen or whatever it was...

 

And a more personal irk - no game since the first one has snubbed Kaito so hard and potentially even deliberately and that’s only because he wasn’t even technically -in- the first one (‘Kaito’ as well as the other loids were treated as unlockable modules for Miku). Not only did he have to share his single song with Miku and Meiko, it was a song nearly a decade old. And worst of all, he didn’t even get to be in a medley despite the fact that he was clearly meant to be in that Cute Medley with Miku - why even bother using him in the weird story segment thing otherwise?! (-every- other medley featured the vocaloids that appeared in that sections story parts. Come on, at least let him be a backup dancer...?!) And all this in the year of his 10th annniversary 8’) /rant

 

I vaguely remember hearing a while back that whoever was in charge of the Diva games had left Sega before X so that might have something to do with it. But I recently bought the physical version of Future Tone DX and have been enjoying the higher standard of PVs to X’s(such as Lots of Laugh) but it bugs me how neon light blue Miku’s hair is. I was interested in the games when I first saw them but didn't own a PSP; I don't like playing on portables due to carpal tunnel issues and my vision isn't so great so the small screens are hard to look at...and I've tried anyway, owned a GBA SP that I couldn't play, eventually had a PSP which I couldn't play, currently have a 3DS that I can't play (I'll never learn apparently). I considered getting the PSP games later and just playing via Dreamy Theater but the way those worked and requiring you to still unlock on PSP made that not feasible. So when F was announced for PS3 I was thrilled, and it took so long after the Vita release I kept figuring they'd cancel it.

I think the smaller song selection just led to everyone who isn't Miku getting more shortchanged than usual.

Someone leaving would explain it for sure. As you may know, the arcade games were made by different people; AM2 made them and had nothing to do with the PSP games though may have had something to do with F; the home games were Sega CS3 and also Dingo on PSP. The original arcade game was a based on the original PSP Project Diva and from that point on the two series diverged somewhat. Sega went with the different graphical style in the two, with the PSP games having the cuter Miku and arcade having the somewhat more realistic one. By the time Future Tone came around that was blurred somewhat as some later songs and newer modules had styles more like the home games or at least I think that's the case; Two-Faced Lovers comes to mind as an example of that. I've always felt the older module style that's still in a lot of Future Tone has that kind of uncanny valley/creepy doll look, something about the way the mouths animate I think looks too weird. The lighting is typically very nice though giving things a very 3D look, though I get what you mean about how some of the textures have a sheen and such. Initially I didn't like the new lighting model used in X but I came to like it; I think that's the main difference in how X looks different than F and F2nd. I'm referring to the PS4 version...I don't think the Vita has that lighting model and looks more like F/F2, though since I've only seen pictures I'm not sure.

Yeah they need a Luka happi too. That way the characters don't have to wear their own; Miku can wear Luka's because she's her fan, etc.

 

Since there was no doll-related announcements outside of Sakura Miku there's just not much to talk about I think. Her design is pretty fixed so we know what she'll look like more or less. I am interested to see exactly what Volks does with her though as they certainly have some leeway in how they do her face and what kind of material they make her outfit out of. I would hope for subdued pinks that aren't too shiny; I don't want the outfit to look like the pink Idolmaster ones.

Almost looks like we may need a PD thread. I bought a PSP after they were discontinued just so I could play the games (Probably got my local Game Stop's last unit.). I wanted the teal Miku PSP, but could never justify the cost. I'm no good at the games, so I loved the VR one on the PS4 as I could actually play it and unlock everything.

Nah, not going to jump on you or anyone else but I do think it's a good idea to keep this thread as uncluttered as we can and keep it just about the doll/outfit/event info and not about the games and y'alls opinions of them/favorites/etc. So please start an Off Topic thread on these games if you'd like to continue that discussion. Like damn, she’s had a good year. She’s included in the Miku symphony, she’s got a festival or something going on?, she’s the mascot at a university’s thing? Idk what it is. She just got her first scale figure, and her products were actually displayed at Magical Mirai, which I thought was interesting.

 

If they announced her next Magical Mirai, I would die. My dreams: come true.

Yeah the GSC Kasane Teto figure surprised me too, so anything seems possible.

 

Non-Crypton Vocaloids are probably not very likely, but I always thought Gakupo could be interesting. Or just bypass that and straight up make a DD of Gackt.

Honestly, I would die if a Teto DD was released. When I heard about Sakura Miku my first thoughts were how I could easily make her into a Teto DD. Ultimately, I think my wallet is safe from the new Miku but if a Teto is announced I would throw all of my savings at Volks.

 

Please, Volks, all I ask of you is for Teto and Sonika DDs. None of the other Vocaloids matter, I just need those two.

It's very silky and the colors are really bright. I really like this happi a lot. I am mildly contemplating the Miku one now too since they're doing the sale...

I snagged a Kagamine happi the SECOND they went out and man, did they sell out fast. Sadly I could only get one, but that's okay, I can't wait to watch my twins fight over it. Rin will win, lol. Anybody else snag a happi coat?
