I love my Miku doll, I have the original Miku and she's beautiful dont get me wrong but i feel like instead of making Snow Miku and Sakura Miku a seperate doll they should've just made them limited outfits. Because in the Vocaloid universe Snow Miku and Sakura Miku aren't two seperate characters, Miku just wears them as a costume. I have a lot of other Vocaloids that i'd love to see as a Dollfie Dream or Dollfie Dream sister. For example Gumi, Kaito, V Flower v4, Aoki Lapis, Oliver, Fukase, maybe have a special outfit for Kaito to make him Akaito, Teto Kasane, Yohioloid, Galaco, Iroha Nekomura, SF-A2 Miki and there's others. I'm just kind of bummed that they're making yet again another Miku

I would rather see a larger variety of dolls than constant re-issues of the same character with slight changes. Even in the Best of the Best selecton I was voting for dolls with 1 release and exorbitant after market prices so people could get a second chance, but didn't vote for Saber because eight Saber releases that I can think of.

I think the issue with Snow and Sakura Miku as a costume is the face-up coordination. Miku's colors would clash with alt-Miku's colors.

The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be.

Well, DD Miku isn't always available, and people who don't own an existing Miku will want a doll to go along with the outfit.  Plus, I'm sure Volks knows they can sell a new doll to the obsessive doll and Miku fans out there.

I'd love to see the outfits and wigs ordinarily released with the limited dolls sold separately.  I imagine then it might cut into doll sales as we know some people buy the full doll package just for the outfit or the head.

But it's funny you mention that Snow Miku isn't a separate character.  I was having a conversation with my partner about that topic a bit over a month ago.  We were talking about my Snow Miku DD, and I was calling her Miku.  My partner replied that she wasn't Miku, but she was instead Snow Miku.  So to him, they're two different characters.  My partner isn't a Vocaloid fan, but I later found out that his wasn't a completely unheard of belief in Vocaloid fandom.  I even found a couple of Vocaloid info pages where Snow Miku was being considered an entirely different entity from regular Miku and Sakura Miku.

Personally, I'm with you.  Snow Miku is just Miku, not a separate character.

I always saw Snow Miku as a separate character myself. Sakura Miku was kind of just treated as a colour swap until now.
But, even if they were the same, it wouldnt work as well to treat them as costumes for the regular DD Miku because as BeyondTime said she has teal eyebrows and eyeshadow which just don't go as well with the Snow Miku wig and wont go well at -all- with the Sakura Miku wig. That's mostly really all there is to it. It'd be annoying if they were just rereleasing the exact same Miku just with a different outfit and wig, but she has a different faceup and Sakura Miku may even have a different skin tone.
Thats why each years's Snow Miku costume is just a costume instead of a full doll, because there's already the Snow Miku doll to wear it.

EDIT: as for the other vocaloids, I think Kaito has a decent chance, and Meiko is a little more iffy but the possibility is there. I would never in a thousand years expect any other company's vocaloids to get a DD though - and not just because Volks only has the license with Crypton Future Media. I mean most merch companies completely ignore them as it is. It's enough of a miracle when a non-Miku Cryptonloid gets something. It's not impossible, but it's just so unlikely that the existence of Sakura Miku has nothing to do with any other vocaoid's chance or possibility of becoming one.
If Kaito is coming though, he could be announced this year at MagiMirai as it would fit the pattern of a new one being released every two years. I didn't expect a new Vocaloid doll announced only a year after Luka was, so Sakura Miku was much more a pleasant surprise than a 'damn it wasn't ---?' for me.

I only feel the "damn it wasn't ---?" a bit because with Sakura Miku and Miku f3 at this next Dolpa, I guess it's another event where we aren't gettting any of The Best rereleases. I just want to know what they are going to be so I can know what I should be considering buying from Mandarake already. With my usual luck I'm probably not getting any of what I want rereleased but it'd be nice to just know that so I can get on with it.

That's another good reason they make different versions of Miku. Now that Sakura Miku is the mascot for Hirosaki Sakura Festival she may get a new outfit each year, and so you need a Sakura Miku doll to wear them.

A funny note: As I was reading all about the Vocaloids I suddenly asked myself "Where on earth did Torino disappear to?" The light-bulb over my head just went on. XD

I wonder what the chance of Gumi getting a DD would be. She seems to have a bit of a "crossover" with the Crypton characters. I think she's in the Project Diva games with all the other Cryptonloids, and I've probably seen more merch of Gumi than Kaito or Meiko...

Teto's also in the Project Diva games, but as much as I wish she would be getting a DD, I really doubt it would happen. Honestly, I think Volks is most likely going to finish their series of Vocaloid dolls off with Kaito and Meiko and then just periodically release outfits for them. But, then again, when it comes to Volks, who really knows.

Teto was also part of Miku symphony. It gives me a little hope. I'd love to get Teto as a doll. (Also Neru but that's even more unlikely outside of a custom.)

Gumi isn’t in any of the Project Diva games. Even the song she was originally in - Ii Aru Fanclub - was changed to a Rin/Miku duet. She does appear in Project Mirai but isn’t really a playable character in the way the others are. I always thought it weird that she was like...kinda allowed but not really. I assumed it was something to do with the different licensing companies but why have her at all if she isn’t treated the same as the others...?

Meanwhile Teto is a wild card, because she’s not an official character owned by a company maybe anything goes. I personally don’t expect it, but I kinda want to see it just to see what they do with her wig. The fan made ones I’ve seen, as well as other wigs I’ve seen with that drill style, seem to have the hair supported over clear plastic to keep the shape.

Ah, my mistake. I knew she was in Project Mirai, so I just assumed she was also the Diva games. I guess all the other Vocaloids are kind of up in the air when it comes to whether or not they become DDs...

For me personally i dont really care about the original Miku not matching up with the faceup but it's Volks and i kind of see them as money hungry and i know not everyone feels the same, Like obviously Miku is popular but over the years i feel like more of the other vocaloids were getting popular as well. I've always loved Miku she introduced me into vocaloid and dollfie dreams but i don't favor her more over the other characters considering theirs hundreds. For doll collecters, like strict doll collectors that never take off the original outfit or keep them in display cases i can see why it would be harder to just make them seperate outfits but for me i can't own a doll if i'm not going to give love and attention to it. I dont really know anything about getting the rights to characters so idk how long it takes to make the dolls but i feel like there should've been a lot more vocaloid dolls by now or at least just the first 7 characters, Like Miku, Len, Rin, Luka, Kaito, Gumi, Gakupo, and Meiko since they were the original crew to be widely seen on merchandise. I support Volks to a point, they're clothing is good quality same with their dolls but unless it was a character i was absolutely in love with i wouldn't spend the money on their dolls, Saber, the Touhou girls, and the non Miku vocaloid dolls are the only ones i'd consider actually buying. Sakura Miku is pretty but i'd rather see some different characters since we all know how exspensive after markets are so getting their previously released dolls is sometimes impossible.

For certain characters i can understand why it might be annoying to make the outfits seperatly as well like the dolls that have armor or weapons obviously would be a pain to mass produce as seperate full sets but simple outfits would be fine, Like if your a dollfie collector that only has custom dolls then having the fullsets be it's own outfit would be ideal. Or they could make it where for like lottery events every like three years or something or for the Miku anniversary's they could release just the fullsets without the doll so if you have a custom Snow or Sakura she could wear her outfits., or if you're someone that wants to collect all Miku outfits without even using them that would be ideal too.

I guess I'm in the 'it's all the same Miku just different costumes' camp.  Miku is Miku, she's just a lot more flexible then the rest of us.  Probably won't be getting her, but I do want her outfit and wig if someone wants to split.  I love Miku, just don't need triplets.

I think Kaito and Meiko only stand a chance because they fit into the mold of "pairs" that Volks has been doing with male DD for some reason....Rin/Len, Asuna/Kirito, 2B/9S. They seem hesitant to make just a standalone male DD release right now, so for once I'm glad for Meiko always being paired with Kaito in merchandise lol. They boost each other's chance up in that regard.

But that aside...I'm disappointed I don't like Sakura Miku more. She's actually usually the only Miku I like! I think her sharp faceup look here just didn't work for me. I'd like her to look more...cheerful somehow. But I'm relieved because I'm not in the market to take anyone else home this year but 9S lol.

Miku f3 seems to be officially called Miku Reboot; I guess we will know more whenever the next Volks News comes out:

https://ameblo.jp/blog-dd/entry-12451215313.html

If Miku Reboot is actually Volks' The Best rerelease for Dollfie Dream, I'm going to be incredibly disappointed. Rerelease her, fine, but don't make her part of this event, where the dolls released should feel more special. No slight to Miku, but she's not rare and she's rereleased all the time.

I think that's just what they are calling it this time.  Every time they do a new Miku (aka Snow Miku) or do a big outfit for Miku they release Miku at the same time.  And since she's on the new f3 body they had to name it something to separate it from prior Miku rereleases.  I wouldn't read too much into it.

That worries me too, especially after seeing some photos of the Volks news 83 issue. On Miku Reboot's page, there are the "20th Dollfie The Best Selection" logos:

I guess it was silly of me to hope that there wouldn't be people voting for the popular characters that already have multiple re-releases (Miku, Saber, Sasara) to give others a chance, but... I sure hope this Miku won't be the only 20th anniversary re-release because this is rather disappointing for someone who isn't a huge Miku fan... I mean, I get that Miku is extremely popular and there must be Miku fans who don't have the doll yet and appreciate the chance - not to mention Volks has to battle the bootleg Mikus now too - but... their Miku license seems flexible enough to warrant re-releases even without the 20th anniversary event so it feels like a missed opportunity to me.

There's still August and December Dolpas this year, though (assuming december doesnt have venus/jupiter in order to be the third sailor moon december in a row). I thought they just wanted to give Miku a chance at rerelease becase a)apparently a whole load of people voted for according to the initial announcement and b)it was easy to release her alongside the new Sakura Miku. Also, Volks News revealed there are three SD releases this Dolpa (SD, SDGr and YoSD) so I guess a third DD may have been too many dolls for one event?. I get that people are disappointed but I'm not sure why people are acting like she's going to be the only DD rereleased this year.
And remember, last time this happened there were other rereleases that happend after the anniversary year and werent labelled as such - Tohsaka Rin for example. Could be a coincidence, or maybe her rerelease actually did have something to do with the number of votes she got. So I think it's likely they could rerelease others in future years down the line.

(also wondering if there will be anything in particular done in 2023, as that is technically Dollfie Dream's 20th anniversary, rather than Super Dollfie's...although thats a while off. (not that I mind DD piggybacking off the SD festivites)

all that said I'm still surprised people *did* vote for Miku. while it's true that she has had less formal releases within Japan than in the US (and the MagiMirai ones were super limited), the number of them in the wild makes her possibly the easiest of all licensed DDs to find. I probably already said this somewhere but I also thought one of the features of the rereleases was new outfits, and it would have been a great opportunity to at least release her in her V4 outfit. F3 is nice, but still... the very least they can do is offer her hand parts again. I havent been able to collect them all.

With how popular Hatsune Miku is worldwide I am not really surprised, and she is a great doll.

Ultimately people voted for what they wanted. It’s just disappointing if the largest share of votes went to something that is easy to obtain and often rereleased as opposed to something hard to obtain.

As pointed out above this year might just be the start of the rereleases, so perhaps we get the number 1s in 2019, and the runner ups in 2020.

Yeah. I know from discussion most of us here tried to vote for dolls we wanted that were also hard to get being expensive aftermarket but I guess many people didn't put that kind of thought into it.

I partially blame this on Volks. While initially them listing every single DD even ones that at the time weren't released like Jeanne made sense because they'd stated this was to cover the entire history of Dollfie, the fact there wasn't even a voting category for Tenshi no Koromo shows they didn't actually do that anyway, and as such it wouldn't have been out of place to not included certain dolls in the polls.

2 hours ago, Monty said:

Could be a coincidence, or maybe her rerelease actually did have something to do with the number of votes she got. So I think it's likely they could rerelease others in future years down the line.

It's likely she will be the only DD (full-size DD, not DDS/DDdy/MDD) rerelease this year, because I fully expect December to be more Sailor Moon, so August will then have to be the other two offficial rereleases. That also likely means there will just be one from the combined DDS/DDdy category since they were voted together, and then one MDD or DDP (and it won't be a DDP most likely).

There will likely be later rereleases not stated as part of this, as Rin Tohsaka before. But that was part of my point above, Miku should've been one of those rereleases, not this official one. In part because that's what I want, yeah. I want several of the now-expensive Idolmaster girls (Takane, Miki, Ranko, Chihaya) and two of those I may be willing to pay the aftermarket price for but would certainly buy a rerelease instead if one is offered. As such, I'd rather those be announced as part of this official event rather than having to wait year(s) for something that may or may not even happen versus buying the old release from Mandarake now.

The bit about new outfits brings up something else that I keep wondering about. In voting dolls that already had two rereleases like Sasara you could thus vote for twice. That wasn't really fair; it meant you could give her two of your three daily votes. If Volks combined those it gives those dolls an unfair advantage. OTOH if people voted for one or the other based on the outfits that makes it unfair to not combine the votes. Sasara is the reason I hoped for one DDS and one DDdy because combined I figure it's very likely she was the one with the most votes.
