MDD Rena ver.1?

Hi! I wanted to ask this question that is being around my thoughts all day.

There is an older version of MDD Rena like first Aoi? I won an auction (and I really regret bidding because I didn’t notice it wasnt a MDD III body) and the MDD has a head copyright 2003. In that year were the firsts candy and mirai, but not any MDD.

Can you help me identify this head?

I found some pictures in an ebay listing for a DDH-01 head with that same copyright info on it:

That states it's the hard head cap version; I don't know if newer heads show the same thing and I don't own an 01 head.

 

Volks' DD model pages don't show any earlier Rena as they do for the other models that were changed, but I don't know if that's definitive.

Hopefully someone else will have more info.

They look similar except for the open mouth on Rina. To me what's really distinctive is the shape of the upper eyelids. They seem to be sculpted to look like a fold on both dolls.

 

 

Is it possible this is a Rina with a custom faceup? If she was made around 2003 then it would make a lot of sense that she might have a new face.

There's only one version of Rena. She's a pretty recent release, I seem to recall.

 

The DDH-01 headsculpt is based on Volks SD resin Chobits Chi headsculpt, so it's been around for a while. Much like how the DDH-02 was first introduced as Rei Ayanami ver. 1.

Jadepixel's database shows Rena as being released 10/20/2012.

 

So the question remains as to what Singer Yuna actually has. It's not the Rena faceup, but it is a DDH-01 head. Is it some other Volks faceup or a custom? The picture is a bit soft but to me it does look more like the very clean lines of a factory faceup over what artists' work more typically looks like, but there are artists that do mimic the original styles so that isn't really conclusive.

 

Did Volks release any prepainted 01 heads like they've done with some of the others? There are D'Coord and/or Dream Choice 01 heads, but I didn't find a picture of one that looked like this and this looks more like an older style for Volks faceups to me.

I used to have the prepainted DDH-01 Volks released back in 2011 or 12. I'll try to dig up the photos on my Flickr when I get home from work in a few hours.

Ok, Singer Yuna's head is not the Volks prepainted 01 from 2010/11.

I thought too maybe is a mistake of the stamp and the typo corrected was 2013 instead 2003, but she seems quite old so maybe is an old ddh01... well, another mystery head bought in the auctions xD (I’m lacking of MDD clothing so I assaulted one auction seller for 3 handmade yukatas, I should stop before Kaede arrives)

All 01s are stamped 2003 no matter when their faceup is from. This is the sculpt copyright date, not for the faceup or character.

Precisely this. Also, the 01 head was originally used for SD Chii, which is why this head's date is so far back.
