DDP definitely has double-jointed elbows- you just have to pull pretty firmly to get the 'peanut' joint out of the upper arm vinyl. Same design as MDD III, just bigger and with a metal pin for reinforcement on the upper joint.

Thanks for pointing that out. I'd probably still have been the dark a year from now.

(Image stolen from Danny Choo and then butchered by me.)

Lol priceless, although Yayoi is good deal younger and less erm... endowed.

I want Volks to make their own version of the grabby hands.

I just noticed something. Here's the page of DDS body parts again:

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DmuxIheUUAA8hR7.jpg:large

I suspect the busts are the same parts as before.

Thank you, I missed that when it was posted. I agree the busts are likely unchanged, but the shoulder on the arm is a ball. That may make a lot of difference. On the DDIII frame is basically an L bend.

I think they were kind of stuck with the busts, along with hands they would be hard to make F3 version specific without gimping the sales of the new body.

I suspect the unitorso may be a thing of the past with the new body, or it may be released with a simpler inner frame lacking the complex spine. Then again it might be more expensive to run two production lines for a frame, so we'll see.

I often have them in swimsuits, or babydolls so the lines are more visible to me.

That makes sense. Babydolls aren't my thing, and I haven't generally bought swimsuits but for such I have been trying to find stuff that covers more because I prefer to hide the joints as much as possible so I like things that have a cut that follows the cut of the lower torso. I think the butts look especially bizarre in the tiny thong pantsu and such.

I guess I'm a fan of slightly more modest clothing anyway. I like this Volks swimsuit:

https://www.volks.co.jp/page_ex.jsp?CONTROLID=SC0040&BUSINESSID=InitDisp&jancd=4518992415512&version=en

It's attractive, and the way it covers the behind looks nice.

One of the other pages shows the DD-f3 body:

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DmuxG2PVAAAjC_w.jpg:large

DDS body is shown on that page with the parts; my impression is the look of these two isn't changed much if at all. But it's hard to judge everything from a couple of pictures so there won't be any real answers until people get their Sabers I think.

Grrrr. Volks USA won't stock issue 80 for a while. 79 hasn't been released yet!

Volks USA had their normal free shipping promotion for Volks News 79 early July. I bought my copy 7/12. But it looks like they'll have more on the 21st of this month.

If I pose Yayoi in the same way and look at her from from the same angles she looks the same as the DD & DD f3, but we do need to see the Saber pre-orders to know for certain.

I would think Volks would want to incorporate any feature that improves the look of the doll, and they have done this with their SD line. On the other hand they need to mix form and function, which may mean making some compromises.

I'm curious if there is a DDP option parts page. DDP lacks replacement parts, option busts, and DDP option hands. One of the reasons I had no idea that was a double joint in the elbow is the lack of replacement parts has made me very cautious about disassembly. I've had the arms and bust off, but Iori's arm kept falling out until I figured out how to seat it properly, as a result I knew I could remove the arms without any trouble.

Edit: Part of why I sometimes keep them in swimsuits and babydolls is that they don't stain, and are really easy to remove in order to dress them for photos. I do want them to look nice regardless though.

It’s interesting that the standards will also have the f3 from now on...so how will that work? Will they just discontinue the current ones and wait for the stock to go before switching or will there be soon be two options for each standard (ddIII or f3 version) until the old stock runs out?

I hope Volks isn't headed to Smart Doll Land where we can't easily buy replacement parts.

Good question. Since the price is presumably different by the same 3800 yen they could sell both until the old runs out but perhaps they do the other.

The switchover is odd in various ways anyway. It seems like they're changing everything at once, yet they'll still be shipping out Lukas, Kaedes, and Matois for months now and they're still the current bodies.

Yeah and some things they do are a bit head-scratchy like why is the cut of the busts around the arm different on the existing DDS and DD?

Yes there is, base body and parts are in the magazine. I mentioned it in my OP but failed to link the picture; at the time I figured we'd get a set of scans sooner and ones that didn't hide part of the page. Here's the link to the tweet:

You can't see the entire page, but it looks like there is still the single bust size for DDP.

Edit: Part of why I sometimes keep them in swimsuits and babydolls is that they don't stain, and are really easy to remove in order to dress them for photos. I do want them to look nice regardless though.

With babydolls I thought maybe you were just working on an idol harem.

More seriously, I'm looking to do something like that in terms of having some outfits I can leave my dolls in without worrying much about staining. Looking mainly for white or other light color dresses and such. My problem is I don't really like the typical girly pastel traditional doll clothing, so much of what Volks makes that would work for that isn't for me. I've finally found a few I like though.

FWIW I would love a DD(S)-f3 body. The DDP body is soo smooth and quiet to pose, all my DDs feel squeaky now. Part of it may be that there's less vinyl to move around the skeleton, but all the joints are smoother overall. Things are also much more posable in small areas, like ankles. It's just a much easier body to play with. ahem.

I did have issues with parts falling off and it really was a matter of making it get in snug. I also had to destain Iori's legs (tip: that volks sofa stains if you leave a doll's vinyl sitting on it for a couple of weeks) and I took them off to do that like I do with my larger DDs. I'm never doing that again. The large bodies plug into the torso at the waist. The legs of the DDP bodies basically plug into each other, so if you pull one off the other one will come off. Trying to line them back up to put them together again is definitely tricky.

Aha, that explains something. On the page with the pictures of the DDS parts, I noticed one thigh looked like it had a long pin on it and the other one doesn't. I didn't understand what I was seeing but now I know why.

Volks certainly isn't spacing stuff out, are they? I'll be amazed if they even have my order from this past weekend shipped before this goes on sale.

I'll probably try to get:

and

Also

looks nice, but I don't think I can afford to bite right now.

So the trade-in basically covers postage. That's so. . . exciting?? (No it isn't. I lied.)

The Dark Owl outfits are so cute, but don't think I'll actually spring for any of them. I'm tempted to try for those epic thigh-high boots, but that click war is gonna be brutal and I already know it.

I'm still very curious about 2B, but mostly for her face. I'm hoping she'll have a mature face; I have an OC that calls for that, and it's a look I don't have in my crew yet.

Mine was unnaturally fast this time as I got the shipment notice last night.

I've thought about that dress. I don't really care for the knit overdress, but just the pink dress is quite nice. But the black straps and edging may be stain monsters knowing Volks so I don't know if it's worth that worry for me.

I like those shoes too, though I'd like them better if they were (fake) leather over being suede so I'm not sure if I'll go for them.

I like that one and this one:

https://www.volks.co.jp/page_ex.jsp?CONTROLID=SC0040&BUSINESSID=InitDisp&jancd=4518992420721&version=en

However, they remind me quite a bit of the Lady Thief/Archer/Wizard and the Flower/Tree Fairy outfits, and I have 4 out of 5 of those so I'm not sure I want these.

I'm also looking at the thigh-high boots:

https://www.volks.co.jp/page_ex.jsp?CONTROLID=SC0040&BUSINESSID=InitDisp&jancd=4518992420967&version=en

and I probably want those but as Poofiemus says they may be very hard to get in the clickwar.

I'm not sure if we've seen all the October releases yet, which would help to know what to buy or skip this round. Wayfinder posted pics on the first page of this thread, but there wasn't any Designers Collection in that, and I think Volks generally releases clothes from each of the main lines for each event though I'm sure there are exceptions.

Lucky!

True. But I don't mind if my girls wear their bodysuits under stuff like that.

I agree with the similarity to the fantasy themed outfits. I also have Lady Wizard and two of the Fairy outfits. These definitely fit with those, but also seem to have a bit of a steampunk vibe to them. Or they do to me anyway. The one that you like definitely makes me think about one of the "Gear" sets from a while back.

I dunno. Part of me wants to buy the Dark Owl Dress and skip the Pastel Color Knit Set. I guess I'll decide by this weekend.

I'm also looking at the thigh-high boots:

Hadn't really considered those, now I'm rethinking. ...No, my girls already have quite a few pairs of boots they're not wearing. I need to save money for...

Exactly. I know there are some lace up heels that Amber will kill me if I don't get for her.

I want to avoid visible bodysuits. So my criteria ends up being "Do I like this outfit enough that it's worth the frustration of treating stains?"

Your're right, that one is reminiscent of the gear outfits, which may be why I like it too. I have Red Gear on the way to me now from Mandarake. The picture of Rin Tohsaka wearing it here sold me on it:

https://www.volks.co.jp/blog_nest/osaka/160825/

Volks USA still has the Blue and Green Gear outfits. Blue might be worth it for parts and the hat is cool but I don't like the weird bloomer shorts it comes with.

SB-SD16G-080; yes those are Amber for sure. I like them pretty well but am not sure they fit my girls' style; then again they'd probably go nicely with the gear or fantasy outfits, so maybe I need them after all.

I'm not interested in the Day Camp or miko outfits and tail accessories, but I want to see if there was anything else for the October stuff.

Seriously they could have released these in October, but I suppose the camp sets really do feel like a September thing.

That's one nice thing about having an SD or two around. I can buy sets like this and not worry about stains. The DD's can then use any bits that won't stain them.

As far as the straps go you can sometimes use the DD protection tape to prevent staining. Just stick the tape to the strap and not the doll. I do that with the straps on Rin Shibuya's default outfit.

I'm also looking at the thigh-high boots:

Yeah, those I want for my SD16.

Rin looks awesome in that. Haruka is pretty cute too. She looks quite sassy in that picture.

I tend to avoid those outfits because they are more of a costume than clothing. Given the high cost of doll clothing I usually ask myself "how much will this get used?" If the answer is "once in a blue moon" I pass.

I do like steampunk as a style, and seeing Rin and Haruka in those makes them really temping. With that said, the wigs help complete the outfit. I don't think their default hair would work.

For those wondering about the other October items there are (I think) Designer Collection items (they are old world Pilgram era looking to me) and also some adorable knit jumper, shirt and skirt combos with bunny style bow headbands for DD and MDD (the one aimed at more mature girls had a scrunchie from memory). The skirt print on those is really nice, will be aiming to get one for my girl.

I just left home for the day but if there's still no scans of those pages when I get home I'll try to snap some phone shots at least to help people out with deciding.

I would love to see the pages we are missing, outfits and anything the F3 bodies. I've searched around, but so far no luck. I'm sure people would like to see the MDD-f3 that we can only see a glimpse of in one of the other photos.

Generally that's been my plan. Here I'm not sure due to the lace on the top of the dress. There's also something weird about those straps, or weird about Volks' pictures. The last picture, of the outfit laying on a background, shows something odd in the holes between the two sides of the straps and the straps themselves look too thin compared to the other pictures. Are they lined (doesn't look like that)? Were they photographed on a different background and then this one edited in, badly?

SDs, well, that's another area/money-pit I don't want to get into, and mostly I don't like the styles though some like Creamy Mami or Ami Ayase I do.

Your're right, that one is reminiscent of the gear outfits, which may be why I like it too. I have Red Gear on the way to me now from Mandarake. The picture of Rin Tohsaka wearing it here sold me on it:

Haha...the costime type outfits and the cosplay ones (nurse, teacher, business suit, etc.) are the things I like most and find I am willing to pay more for.

In casual I like stuff like jeans or shorts more. I tend to mostly not like the frilly pastel blue or pink dresses that are what I think of as traditional doll clothing. I find I like them sometimes when they're not too frilly and don't have too many bows and such on them. I got and quite like the Lollipop Pink dress which you can see here:

http://mlkt.sakura.ne.jp/blog/2017/11/doll-dd-head-5.html

For clothing like this I stick with the types I know shouldn't stain.

But the costumes are the things I've searched out the most and am still looking for like some of the "Deep Blue" military styled ones.

It's really hard to say. They have done double ribbons as straps before, but I don't think that's what this is. The ribbon straps tied around the neck for one thing. It almost looks like a felt or velveteen material sewn on top of white fabric. I don't think the white would be protection though, because the black material seems to extend over the sides, and has what looks like a bow or some other decoration at the top. I would think the stitching would be black thread too, and that's the worst stain offender.

In casual I like stuff like jeans or shorts more. I tend to mostly not like the frilly pastel blue or pink dresses that are what I think of as traditional doll clothing. I find I like them sometimes when they're not too frilly and don't have too many bows and such on them.

Yeah, the frilly dresses really are a perfect fit for their MSD / Dear SD style dolls. Not really my thing, and I it kind of bugs me that nearly every outfit sized for DDP has the sort of bottom you would expect to see on a small child. I'm not knocking it really, as I said it's a perfect fit for their 1/4 scale lines, so it has it's place. Iori and Yayoi are mid teens though, and they really cry out for the type of stuff you would expect to see on a 15 year old.

Regular shorts, jeans, or a skirt in DDP size would be nice. Maybe now that the body is becoming generally available they will start making stuff more appropriate for the age group the doll is supposed to fit instead of it mostly being 'also fits.'

Edit: There really is one big reason I like the more normal clothing instead of costumes. It's fun to dress characters from anime or games in something casual that is not their official getup. Plus with all my iM@S girls I really want to give them stylish street outfits. I originally got into DD when I bought a Kos-Mos thinking she would go into a display case wearing her game outfit, and she never wears it. It's always street clothing I put on her. I put one other outfit on her and I was hooked on changing their styles up.

I'm definitely going for the DD casual outfits as they're right up my alley. I want to like the owl outfits, but eh. I generally *really* dislike steampunk themed things, but I really love high fantasy and this is some weird in between. Some of it looks like it just doesn't go together well... or fit properly... I can't pin it but something is off.

Had anyone posted scans of the entire news yet? Maybe i'm missing the link.

I like steampunk as well as the fantasy outfits, but I completely agree on how this set is some kind of weird combination of the two and is thus a bit odd.
