cfx Posted September 15, 2018 As he has done with the clothing patterns, Danny has promised to release the 3D data for some items for people to modify, use with 3D printers, etc. So he has now released the first set of data, which is for.... boobs: https://shop.smartdoll.jp/products/smart-doll-3d-data (I assume this is the older XL bust style he no longer makes or sells)
growcian Posted September 15, 2018 I tried uploading the file to 3D hubs to see how much it would cost to get this printed. https://www.3dhubs.com/ It's about 33 USD with rubber-like material (TPU) and about 19 USD using the least expensive plastic (PLA). (Shipping not included in those prices.) No matter which material I choose, I would need to use the Volks flesh tone primer (and add a clear coat of sealant over it) since the print material doesn't come in "Milk". If I were to bother going through with the service, I'd probably get the boobs printed in pink so the flesh tone will come out better when I use appropriately colored paint. I would then wonder if I should get the part printed in TPU, PLA, or PETG. TPU would give me softer boobs but they would have a higher likelihood of paint chips if anything gets squished. That would then make me wonder which harder material to use: PLA or PETG?
sinclair Posted September 16, 2018 Just be aware that most 3D printed materials outgas, so I'd be nervous using it for body parts that are under clothes, unless your girl runs around topless everywhere she goes...
Starwaia Posted October 17, 2018 sinclair, would you be willing to elaborate? I don't know much about 3D printing and from what you're saying it seems that the materials you're talking about might harm the other parts or clothes? Sorry if I'm not understanding correctly. Currently watching BNHA, 1-2 episodes behind on the anime rn and absolutely obsessed! (being in a fandom late has made dodging spoilers an issue tho ) More into Nendoroids and my resin BJDs rn- including some BNHA character shells hehehe - my Smartdolls are boxed up at the moment but I'm still happy to talk dolls and doll plans! sinclair Posted October 17, 2018 Think about that new car smell, or the smell of a brand new doll right when you open the box. This is due to outgassing of the materials used. In fact if you have not washed the inside windows of your car for a long time it gets a white haze, that's from outgassing. Almost anything with glues or plastic does it. I just know from experience that 3D printed items from plastic do it as we ran into issues with using 3D printed parts in a clean room. Parts placed in a 3D printed tray were ruined due to the chemicals released from outgassing. I wouldn't have an issue using things like weapons that will just be in hands, but I'd be weary of anything that otherwise touched their bear skin, especially if it's colored.
