Obitsu 50cm mistake

Well. where do I start, I put my Obitsu 50cm away in her box as I was moving home, she was in there for over a year, just chilling, lying there waiting for the day that she would be resurrected to pride of place on my book shelf.

 

This is her, Pino, I posted here about her a few years ago, pretty right?, If you ignore the strange pose, I am trying to keep her arms away from her body and legs, In the hope that they will not be effected.

 

 

By what you may ask, well have a look.

 

 

 

I put her away wearing tights and panties I bought from someone on Figure FM, never gave it a thought and she is now blue, weird as the tights were pink and black stripes. this goes up to her waist, front, back and sides.

 

And, And it appears to be creeping, one of her forearms and hand has the beginnings of a stain and so does a boob.

 

So, question, is she worth recovering with stain remover, or, just re-build her using new pieces of vinyl.

That bluish color is the typical you will see after staining from black fabric. Vinyl is porous, so it can creep away from the original point of contact. Whether to treat the stains or replace the parts will depend on whether you would rather spend time or money fixing her. She can be saved and cleaned, however it may take as much as a month or two before they have faded enough to let the process finish on it's own. You can, of course, just buy new parts if you'd like her to be presentable sooner. That will take more money than getting stain remover cream though. Personally I would treat the stains but I don't like to give up after an accident like this. Remember to always remove dark clothing if you know you will be storing your doll for a while.

Yeah, when I put her away it was only meant to be for a few days but I forgot about her and this is the result, my other two dolls were fine but not this one...

I find it's always worth it to try and stain remove first!

 

Yeah, it'll take a few weeks... but hey, if it doesn't work you can always buy new parts later

and hey, can use this as opportunity to test which method/remover works best - put Volks Dream Rescue on feet, Benzyl Peroxide 10% on legs, TwinPines Remove-Zit on upper thighs....

Choosing whether or not to treat the stains or replace the vinyl boils down to this:

 

Are you patient enough to treat the staining? Looking at those, it *could* take months to get them completely clean. Obitsu vinyl tends to take longer to treat than DD vinyl does since it's a bit harder. I know I've had stain treatments take 3 or more months to completely clean up. I'm not trying to sway or scare you on the destaining, just letting you know it CAN take a while to get them all gone. Me, I try to destain before replacing vinyl just because I like rescue projects and the challenge.

 

If you don't want to wait weeks or months to have your girl cleaned up then by all means get new vinyl to replace the stained stuff. It's faster and easier for sure. But the Obitsu bodies are hard to get apart unless you warm up the vinyl so you'll need a hairdryer or heat gun in order to get her apart and swap out the vinyl, especially the arms and legs.

Funny enough, I was going to give the exact opposite suggstion!

I had a badly stained pair of legs from my AP body, and the stains were gone in like... 2 days? Or another super short amount of time.

Well, Italy is pretty sunny, these days, but still...

I would give it a shot, but also check how much would the replacement parts be. Since you will need a lot of cream to de-stain them (quite much, really), maybe it would even be cheaper for you to get secondhand spare pieces.

I've had that happen to an Obitsu wearing hose, but it only took 2 days to happen. Stain removal took a while but it all came out.

many thanks for the replies and advice, think I will try stain removal first and see how I get on, Is it important to have the items treated under heat, I ask as I live in Scotland and its heading into autumn and we won't have any further hot days till maybe May next year. Light I can manage but I don't fancy leaving her lying on top of a radiator.

 

And by hot I mean anything over about 12 degrees centigrade.

I've never used any extra heating techniques during stain removal, just extra time.

Yeah, all new to me, was never overly careful about what clothes I used and was always lucky however, nearly 2 years in her box in these clothes on (just worked it out), which to be honest I only actually intended her to wear for a day or so while I took photos, was too much. Ho Hum better buy some remove zit stuff.

If you're using anything like Oxy10 or something with benzoyl peroxide in it then heat/warmth is needed for it to work. But you don't need a lot. I use a small desklamp with a 15 watt bulb in it to warm the area being treated. I keep it about 8-12 inches away from the surface for about 4-6 hours, or however long it takes the Oxy10 to dry up. Once dry, wipe it off and clean the area with a magic eraser and water. if the stain remains then retreat it until it's gone.
