Cloud87 Posted October 12, 2018 I don't know if I chose a proper title when I randomly saw 1 of unboxing videos of us otakus, gamers, final fantasy fan/huge fans & hentai fans. & it was a dollfie unboxing video sword art online Asuna & I also saw 1 of Hatsune Miku. & well sooner or later if I can afford it & if I choose to I might want to get 1 or more in my collection & my waifu collection. But problem was I'm a straight guy myself & to explain even farther. I admit that I'm a otaku,I'm a gamer,I'm a final fantasy fan/huge fan aka final fantasy nerd,I'm a hentai fan,I love hentai both VR & non-VR & I love hentai stuff. & if it makes any difference I'm 30 years old. & I don't know are Dollfies just for girls & women & dollfie dreams & bjd are 2 of many examples of dollfies. Before you guys say anything don't worry when I get chance to & if I choose to I might post a introduction about myself. Thanks for reading, thanks for your understanding, thanks for your time & thanks for your answers & thanks for your opinions .
BeyondTime Posted October 12, 2018 I don't know are Dollfies just for girls & women & dollfie dreams & bjd are 2 of many examples of dollfies. Dollfie Dreams are marketed for men, but there are both male and female collectors. Pretty sure we have a mix of orientations and gender identities here on the forum too. Volks Super Dollfie are marketed for women, but there are male collectors of those too. 1 The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be. “Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction
Rumi Posted October 12, 2018 As mentioned before they seem to be marketed for men actually. But both men and women are in the hobby ^^ I wouldnt worry about it at all and just do whatever you like. When i look at a dollfie dream i dont really see it as a girly thing to own at all, its more of a super big figure of your fave franchise xD
sinclair Posted October 12, 2018 ...its more of a super big figure of your fave franchise xD This is actually what I told my 12 year old son when I got my 1st DD, Miku, a couple years ago. He knows I've a big fan of Miku and have been since almost her introduction. I told him she was a giant action figure. But has since figured out she's really just a doll (Having 8 more in the house didn't help.). I love playing with my dolls, but then I still play with trains too... baldylox Posted October 12, 2018 When the Dollfie Dreams first came out, they were marketed specifically to the male collectors in Japan. As you mentioned, they were basically large scale action figures of your favorite anime girls that you could customize if you wanted to. Here in the US, the DD girls aren't marketed to any one group and from what I've seen online and in person, ANYONE can collect them. I've met all sorts of people who collect them and for the most part, all of them have been extremely nice and come from all sorts of backgrounds. Don't worry about being a straight male in your 30's and liking these dolls. I'm now 48 years old and have been collecting them since I was 40. I have over 70 of them now and don't plan on stopping. They are amazing dolls and so much fun to take photos of, change clothing on and share with friends! The online communities for them are all very nice and there's plenty of people happy to help you with any questions you may have. This forum is probably THE place to go for help and answers so you're already in the right place. Feel free to ask any questions you may have here. And welcome to the fold! Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
Sord Posted October 15, 2018 As a straight guy myself, I agree with the others that a wide variety of people have an interest in Dollfies. So, no matter who you are, if you really like them, don't be afraid to collect and enjoy them! I have over 70 of them now and don't plan on stopping. Billy Over 70? Wow! That's incredible! Congrats! Mimiyo3 Posted October 15, 2018 While in japan they were totally marketed towards guys the actual community is a lot more varied than that to the point where I'd say there isn't really a solid demographic they appeal to uniquely. Hey I'm non-binary and incredibly bisexual and my local group is also pretty all over the place. They're for anyone who likes them really, so even if some people do get judgmental don't worry about it. That's a them issue ultimately. Present! Miku, Aria, Celia, Melody, Aveline, Rin T, Ted, Chi, Yumi, Melanie, Rin K, Len, Ea, Alter, Illya, Rachel, Aelia, Matt, Jace, & E.N.O. W.I.P. Rose, Tara Waiting Hannah, Lucy, Sonya. Leiothrix Posted October 16, 2018 That's what is good about being an adult. If someone doesn't like a harmless hobby of yours, they can go an take a flying leap. And it's not like you actually have to tell anyone either.

BeyondTime Posted October 16, 2018 I think he's being held hostage. Some one should go over and check on him. IIRC he has several Rei's, several Sabers, and a very determined looking doll named Bud. I think this scenario is a distinct possibility. That's what is good about being an adult. If someone doesn't like a harmless hobby of yours, they can go an take a flying leap. And it's not like you actually have to tell anyone either. Yeah, I kind of echo this sentiment. Your hobbies are your own business, and if someone doesn't like them it's their own tough $%!#. With that said, I have seen a few posts from guys who find having dolls causes friction between them and the woman in their life. That's the one person whose opinion does matter if you want a future with them. DD's are a really big hobby if you get into it, and it's kind of like model trains in the sense that they are toys that adults play with even more than kids. Imo best to team up with a girl who either shares an interest in the hobby, or who really doesn't care if you focus a big part of your attention on other things for part of the day. Not everyone is secure enough to handle that. The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be. “Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction

baldylox Posted October 16, 2018 Yes, we do have over 70 girls residing here at the moment. I still have no idea why. It seems to never end. Do not send anyone to check on me. I am fine. Just send pies, cookies and possibly your old computer parts. I like those. Billy PS. This is not Rei. Send food please. I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop. sinclair Posted October 17, 2018 DD's are a really big hobby if you get into it, and it's kind of like model trains in the sense that they are toys that adults play with even more than kids. There are some of us with both hobbies! The wife knew about the trains before marrying me. The dolls came after a couple years of marriage. She has been supportive and even participated some. I've really lucked out. In the end you just have to feel out your peeps and see who is cool and who isn't with the hobbies you have. Like the dolls, my in-laws are cool with it, my mom's parents are cool with it, but my parents aren't, so I just keep that in mind.
BeyondTime Posted October 17, 2018 There are some of us with both hobbies! Yeah, I take rail everywhere. I’d take it to visit Europe if I could. All my model railroad stuff is boxed up due to space constraints. I’m a big fan of the coal era, and with Deisel I like the Baltimore & Ohio freight cars, just because I love the colors. XD I've really lucked out. In the end you just have to feel out your peeps and see who is cool and who isn't with the hobbies you have. Like the dolls, my in-laws are cool with it, my mom's parents are cool with it, but my parents aren't, so I just keep that in mind. It sounds like you got someone who is open to trying new things, and who wants to be around you. This is a double blessing if you ask me. PS. This is not Rei. Send food please. I guess Billy is in good hands, unless Rei decides to build cyborg Billy. The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Sunnie Posted October 20, 2018 Dollfie Dreams are for everyone! And anyone who's not a jerk won't mind your hobby. Most nerds and otaku are collectors of other toys anyway, and a Dollfie Dream is just kind of like a gigantic figma~

Most nerds and otaku are collectors of other toys anyway, and a Dollfie Dream is just kind of like a gigantic figma~ Exactly! That's how I got into them in the first place, from collecting anime figures. To me they looked just like large action figures that you could customize. violette_22 Posted November 18, 2018 I remember OP from other places on the internet. These dolls are mostly for adults, because they have a lot of small parts that could be a hazard for the very young. The marketing is focused on whoever is most likely to have the funds to purchase. That is why it varies by region. Different people enjoy dolls differently. Usually, in a community setting, other collectors do not focus on the gender of other collectors, they simply enjoy the hobby together. Focusing on the shared hobby is fun, where putting down anyone for their gender makes it not fun. This is why the doll collecting hobby is more fun as a community, where some other hobbies don't have the same mindset.
sklurk Posted November 18, 2018 most of my friends have seen my dolls and think they are cool. If you are a guy with dolls and your friends don't respect that you can have your own hobbies you enjoy, then they are not really your friends? You're your own person, you have your own interests. You be you.
Moon-to-Starlight Posted November 18, 2018 To the contrary, I always thought that dollfie's were mostly a male dominated hobby. Perhaps that was just me looking in from the outside. I was actually nervous joining as a girl, at first. Honestly, I think that anyone who enjoys it should join. And, honestly, as a girl in this hobby, I kind of think it would be nice to have a partner who was interested in it as well. It's creative and I think people who don't have hobbies are boring. But.... that might just be me.

But.... that might just be me. I hope you have felt welcome in this hobby so far! I know I personally gravitate more towards female and NB/GNC hobbyists, as they tend to be less, ah, "male gaze-y"? That, and I've had better experiences being an out gay trans man. I've already had a couple of men make me feel uncomfortable, so that's...not great. I also think it would be neat to have a partner interested in the hobby, as I love making things for people. Being able to make cute clothes for a partner's doll(s) would be super fun!! sinclair Posted November 18, 2018 Not only have I been lucky enough to have a wife that has gotten her own doll, my mother in law has gifted me a Joann's Fabric gift card so I can get supplies to make stuff for my girls. Yes it makes a difference as it makes something fun even more enjoyable.

Ever since I really joined, I have felt very welcome here, to the point I had to laugh about feeling apprehensive about joining. I'm trying to carve out my own niche between fashion and my nerdier hobbies. It's kind of nice, not having to separate one from the other like I tend to do "in real life". I'm sorry to hear about your less then stellar experiences! If you ever need someone to talk to, feel free to hit me up! I like to make cute things, as well. That's half the fun is being able to share with friends.
