You play with dolls?

Recommended Posts

How many of you play with your dolls?

Do you play often? Would you consider your activities with dolls as playing? I play with them and like it so so much.

I do not want keeping my dolls only on shelf only. Sometimes they say some philosphical things.

(Btw. Tsunemi wants to counchange everyboda into BJD then shrink the world into 1:3 scale. But shhhh, it is secret. Do not tell me have not been warned)

Same here. I'd love more time with my girls but I do what I can. Photos every so often and lap time every night seem to work out well so far.

Same for me. Plus I still play with trains. Sometimes I even combine the two.

Yes, and not as often as I think I should. At a minimum I try to pull one down and keep her around me, but it can depend on what I am doing.

Now I have an image of Miku stomping around a train set like a twintailed Godzilla.

The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be.

I don't have a full painted doll yet, but I still often have her hang out near my computer to keep my company. I expect once I have someone that is "complete", I'll be dressing them up and posing them and such, though!

This is just my opinion and I mean no offense to those who disagree, as there isn't a 'wrong' way to participate in this hobby.. But I don't actually see the 'point' in dolls if they arent 'played' with in any way. There are a lot of collectors who like to buy them and just stick them in a display case. Many never even remove them from their original outfits. I don't think badly of people who do that or judge them in any way - but for me personally to do that, I wouldn't see the point.

Some people say 'these dolls are too expensive to risk breaking', but to me, they are too expensive to not do anything with. I'm not personally interested in a $x00 ornament, I get my moneys worth out of a DD by being able to pose them, take photos, change clothes, sit them on my desk, share pics on social media, take them out to places for more photos as a more unique memento of a particular trip (I dislike selfies/photos of myself, so dolls is how I can personalize a travel photo so that it doesnt look like any old photo off google images) If I wanted something that was just going to sit in a display case, I'd go for a figure instead - although its the lack of interactivity that a typical scale figure has that has caused me to lose interest in them in favour of dolls in recent years.

...also, I feel sorry for them when they don't get to do anything.

I totally agree.

I thought that was the whole point of vinyls. You can have all the looks of a large scale ball joint doll and all the durability of mass market play scale dolls.

I actually feel guilty that I don't play with my dolls more, like I'm neglecting them or something, lol. I kind of regret that I just can't get into playing with them like I used to play with my Barbies or 18" dolls as a kid. I think part of the problem is also that I need to clean up my room or something, though - I just don't have space to get them and all their stuff out.

If I played with Dollfies the way I played with my Barbies as a kid, I don't think they'd survive...

I wasn't much of the "brush their hair, change their clothes, and play house with Barbie and Ken" type of kid. I know that on at least one occasion I hogtied my Barbies and hung them from the ceiling fan.

I think all dolls in my household will be glad to hear that the Barbie Gods no longer require a sacrifice.

I was more the type to come up with complex fantasy plots. I remember getting into arguments with my little sister, who just wanted them to ride horses or ice skate instead of figure out how to overthrow the evil queen.

Of course i play with my dollies. I'm putting all my hard earned money into them so of course i'm going to play with them. I love dressing them up and having them sit with me with whatever im doing. I do hope that i can go to doll meets someday and go out in public with them, just need time and money for that. I also need to get a display case, I have my dolls on my dresser and it's dusty which probably isn't good.

I totally agree with Torino too. In fact I feel the same about my trains. That locomotive at Miku's feet when she's by the tower looking very Godzilla like, that's a $2500 locomotive at retail (Street was less, under $2k. My wife says I have too many expensive hobbies.). The model train world is full of old guys that blow up if there is some detail that isn't 100% correct. It drives me up the wall. I have run that locomotive on the floor at full speed as my then 3 year old ran after it. I'm sure a bunch of them old guys had a stoke when they found out. The trains, like the dolls, are toys and toys are meant to be played with, not to be 'shelf queens' (A term used borrowed from the model train world.).

As for dust, it doesn't hurt the dolls (Or trains.).

...I hogtied my Barbies and hung them from the ceiling fan.

You clearly haven't seen Billy's post about a rather wild doll meet he was at. There were girls hanging from the chandeliers and riding the ceiling fans. He posted pictures.

I'm another in the camp that wouldn't see a point in my dolls if I didn't do things with them. But I'm also another one where my dolls are lucky I don't "play" with them like I did when I was a kid. I used to cut the hair off dolls and then tried to chuck 'em on the roof lol. Sorry, dollar store barbies.

In its own way, I consider customizing them a form of playing sometimes. And I keep them with me when I'm just lying around playing games or watching TV. I'm definitely still careless though, I'm the polar opposite of the "only touch them with gloves on" type. I don't stain protect, I don't wear gloves...of course, that doesn't mean I usually do things that are well known to be a bad idea for them, but I just don't sweat the small stuff that I know can be fixed if it happens. It would stress me out too much, and then what would be the point? And they do get "spa days" for cleaning and maintenance every 6-8 months anyway. Which I guess I make into a form of play in itself too? I enjoy the cleaning process, at least.

I agree with you. When i had barbies i would tie them up, pretend that ken was a serial killer, i was a weird kid when it came to my dolls. I don't usually stain protect either, I bought my Miku a DD Body Stocking just in case her original outfit stained her but other than that i havent had problems with either of my dolls.

I was close lol. It's been a long time for me and the F7 and F9 were the ones I remembered. I seem to recall you can tell them apart by the appearance of the side grilles or something.

OT: My interest in model railroading extended to an interest in real trains as well, as I know it does for many. I lived in a small town that had a Sante Fe depot and a very small switching yard--I think, hard to remember the details after so long and everything is long gone now. Back in the 1970s I used to go there and take photos of whatever I found. There'd often be a few cars or a locomotive or two sitting there. Quite often I got to see the rather unique CF7 locomotives:

https://web.archive.org/web/20051217013230/http://www.trainweb.org/indianashortlines/cf7.htm

If I recall they had a couple of different paint schemes for them but I know I saw ones with the "war bonnet" paint scheme like the pictures there. Some of them may have gotten the SPSF paint scheme but I don't think I ever saw any of those. I'll have to dig around I probably still have Kodachrome/Ektachrome slides of some of the stuff from back then.
