Baking Thanksgiving cookies w/Manami

For Thanksgiving this year I was asked to make a side and some dessert. I made rice for the side and of course, cookies for dessert.

 

I woke up early to do this thinking I'd make it out safely without waking my resident cookie thief but that didn't happen. So instead, I coerced Manami into helping me make the cookies. Here's how it went.

 

Ok now, I need you to stir these up for me.

 

"Ewww, this looks gross! Where's the cookie dough?"

That's going to be the dough, right now it's just butter, sugar and salt. You need to mix it together so I can add the rest.

 

"Ohh ok."

Add this in there for me.

 

"Just drop it in? That doesn't sound very good."

 

Of course not! Break it open and pour it into the mix silly.

"It still doesn't look like cookie dough, what's taking so long?"

 

We still have to mix this part up. Get to it Manami.

Yep, just keep stirring until I say to stop.

Look, try not to inhale this in 3 seconds. I'm going to put these cookies in the oven and then start the next batch.

Here, sit up there and just wait for a minute or two. We've got a lot of cookies to make.

 

"No, YOU'VE got a lot of them to make. I'VE got a lot of them to eat!"

What are you doing with the bowl?

 

"Umm... cleaning it?"

 

There was enough dough in there to make 5 more cookies!

 

"Correct, there WAS. Past tense. Now there's not."

Alright now, let those cool. The pan is hot so don't touch it.

 

"Papa, these two cookies are melted together. I'll have to eat those because you can't serve those defects to family."

 

Leave them alone please.

Ha ha, yeah, She HAD just woken up when I started to make these. Somehow her cookie making radar caught the sound of certain bowls and pans being moved so she woke up immediately from sleeping and rushed to see what I was doing. But as far as being able to go to sleep quickly... she's like a cat. 18 hours of sleep per day and the rest is eating, drinking and ticking off her sister Rei. LOL

We were busy but we had fun. And no, there weren't any fake cookies in there.... those were the real ones. Why else would she be sleeping on top of them? To save them for herself of course!
