DJStarstryker Posted December 25, 2011 I have a DD Rin. Her default outfit comes with those black thigh high stockings. Now Rin's feet are badly stained (so much so it's not worth the effort to attempt to clean them up) and she has some stains on her thighs where the top of the stockings cling to her legs. Now, I was thinking. I don't really like how the body stockings look on the dolls. I am going to be placing an order for entirely new leg pieces (thighs, shins, feet). I plan to keep the stained parts on her when she has those parts covered. The new pieces I will swap in whenever I have her in an outfit that the stains would show. This way I feel like I get the best of both worlds of not being paranoid about stains but can have a pretty doll for all outfits. Does anybody else do this? Are you ready to rock? ^_^
fenrir z78 Posted December 26, 2011 You may want to think about just getting a spair DD2 body. and just change the head form body to body. It is hard to change those parts out like you are think. There is a chance you can make her legs lose and she will not be able to stand. But its your girl. Just shareing some info.
mitsuki Posted December 26, 2011 I agree with fenrir. He is right. The thigh parts in particular are hard to exchange. I like having stained bodies as nice new looking bodies so I can have them in a variety of outfits.
Leadcrow Posted December 26, 2011 For black thigh highs, I just put a pair of white thigh highs on underneath to prevent stains. And if the white ones are a little shorter I use some plastic wrap to cover the rest.
SakuraSylph Posted December 27, 2011 I haven't actually tried this (and hence the question), but wouldn't it be possible to just remove the vinyl skin covering from the DD2 frame, and thereby not make the frame loose from disassembly? I'm envisioning it like swapping out hands. SakuraSylph
Traveller Posted December 27, 2011 For black thigh highs, I just put a pair of white thigh highs on underneath to prevent stains. I like this idea. I like it so much I went and ordered some white Thigh high socks from Cool-Cats recently so they can be used beneath jeans.
mitsuki Posted December 27, 2011 I haven't actually tried this (and hence the question), but wouldn't it be possible to just remove the vinyl skin covering from the DD2 frame, and thereby not make the frame loose from disassembly? I'm envisioning it like swapping out hands. It is easy to exchange the shins but the foot and thigh parts are very hard to separate from the skeleton. Baldylox did change out a pair of feet so he might have some tips. It is hard to detach the leg from the hip, so that makes the process of exchanging the thigh parts difficult. When putting them back together, you have to align two vinyl skeleton parts that connect inside the thigh but you can't see inside while doing it. Exchanging DDII parts makes me appreciate how the DDS body parts come with the internal skeleton parts.
baldylox Posted December 28, 2011 Swapping out feet SUX. The feet are VERY tight on the skeleton part and I couldnt get them to come off even with a heat gun. So I wound up making a cut down the back of the foot to the heel to slide the old ones off. Getting the new ones on was easier but I needed a heat gun to make the vinyl really flexible. Even with that, it was still difficult to get the feet back on. Not something I wold want to do often. As for the hips, everyone that has said its hard is correct. I have yet to do it but have seen it done and it was a royal pain. So if I can avoid that, I will. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop. SakuraSylph Posted January 15, 2012 Thanks for the advice, baldylox, mitsuki, and fenrir. I took my girl's feet off for the first time today to examine them and learn first hand what you meant. I sure do see what you mean about the feet vinyl and the hip armature joints being very difficult to remove! I didn't actually take them out other than the easily removable feet, but just examined them more closely. I don't think I'd be able to get the ankle joints out of the feet without cutting the vinyl, either. Wow. So yeah, it's better to do that kind of disassembly for true skeleton repairs only. Makes sense about using a spare DD2 body rather than swapping individual parts out for cosmetic reasons ^_^;. I learned! By the way, I didn't try pulling out the shin pieces - do you remove those just by pulling straight out on them like the wrist and anke joints? mitsuki Posted January 15, 2012 Yes, if you pull off the foot the shin pieces slide off by just pulling on them.
