Hello :)

Hi, I am new to DDs and debating on getting my first one

I have thought about getting them in the past but most I saw didn't appeal to me, and the ones that did I couldn't figure out what all the letters and numbers meant

I have been reading as much as I can, and have joined one of the FB groups to ask questions, but figured I would join here too. I prefer a forum as opposed to the FB groups because I feel too much gets lost on FB, and I sometimes find posts days or weeks later

 

I have been a doll collector/lover pretty much as long as I can remember, and have collected so many different types I don't think I could list them all haha.

I will be going to a BJD meet this weekend, and will get to see a DD or two in person and I am looking forward to it. I am hoping it will help me decide what direction I want to go in.

I hope that seeing some DD in person can really help you settle on if you really want to get one! I wish I could have had that experience myself before getting into them. ^^" I think it'll really help to see them.

Also, the forum usually helps with many questions that you may have (not all obviously but that's a given). If you have any problems with the numbers of certain molds, there's plenty of resources here to find on them! Might also help to familiarize yourself with the Dollfie Dream Style Database subforum to see all the different molds, what they look like, and what certain numbers or sculpts they are.

Oh and the numbers usually just mean the actual sculpt as some are limited molds based off of certain characters or the numbered ones are just Volks models, not based off any particular character from anime, etc. Hope that helps clear it up a tad for ya!

You're welcome! I'm glad that seeing them definitely helped you out and that you've been learning more about DDs! If I may ask, do you have any idea about which DDs you might be interested in if you are able to get one/some in the future?

 

The ones I know the names of are Kagamine Rin, Arle, and Miku. There was one at the meet this weekend, that I need to message the owner and ask which one she was again.

I did enter the lottery for #5 and #7 on the Volks USA site. I figured if I entered for both that I liked I would have a better shot at at least one of them. But, judging from the FB group those might be ones a lot of people are going for, so I think that makes the odds less in my favor.

I heard a Sakura Miku may be coming, and I hope she is a preorder as I would LOVE to get one and not worry about a lottery.

Ah, I see! In the lottery, #5 is a DDH-09 and #7 is a DDH-11. I will agree with the FB group, they are definitely both relatively popular sculpts across the majority of the DD community, at least from what I've seen! The rest on your current wanted list seem to be a lot of others' favorites as well. Hope you can find out what DD you saw at the meet! Curious to know who she was. ^^

I did message the person with the doll and she said it is a Kosmos.

Yes, if I don't win either of those dolls in the lottery, I definitely plan to wait and see what the Miku will look like. Well either way I will wait and see what Miku looks like, I love pink, and I love Miku so I am hoping they do a great job on her!

I have debated on getting the standard Miko since she won't be made anymore, and I do think she is cute. I also like Karin but worry about clothes sharing as I can't really afford a new doll AND clothes for her if she is a different size than my Smart Doll. So many choices I have no idea what to do

M.O.M.O. Is very versatile, and she has the advantage of not having all the extra stuff the comes with Kos-Mos, so if what you really want is the doll she’ll be more affordable.

 

You can of course just get a head, and then buy a new or used body. That would also be less expensive than the fullset for either doll, but Kos-mos is the older, paler, semi-white skin body. The newer ones have a slighly pinker cast to the skin, which means a new body won’t quite match her head.

 

Ramcoy’s M.O.M.O. looks great with blue hair and eyes.
