gigglesky Posted December 2, 2018 This is my first topic, so if there are any mistakes please feel free to tell me. Just about a couple of minutes ago, I tested my girl on a new stand. It's my fault for not properly checking the position. So she fell to the ground. The faceup still look perfect from my friend's observation. But I'm still in a panic, as I know that the artist who did her face-up no longer take DD heads. Just want to ask for your experience and how you deal with this kind of feeling. Thank you. baldylox Posted December 2, 2018 Most of the time, a spill or fall won't hurt your DD at all. Mine fall off their stands and shelves quite often due to 2 new kittens in the house. 2 days ago one of them jumped up onto the dresser and knocked 4 of them off. >_< They fell a distance of about 5 feet onto carpet and nothing was broken or scuffed. Now if they fall face first onto concrete or wood or some other outdoor surface that is uneven or rough then they *could* be damaged. I had one of my girls get knocked over by wind even tho she was on a stand and her nose got scratched up from hitting concrete face first. But some sandpaper took care of that issue quickly. For the most part the DD girls and guys are very durable and will take some measure of abuse before they get damaged. The face is definitely the easiest part to get damage to it so just try and protect them as much as you can. Dolls fall over, it's part of the hobby. Don't blame yourself when they do. And some of them are just acrobats that want more attention.... Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.

It probably smoothes enough because there is no scratch on her face. I'm glad to know that DD is quite durable. Still, I'll be more careful next time. baldylox Posted December 2, 2018 No problem! The DD girls aren't like resins that can take damage way more easily due to the material they are made of. I saw a poor resin girl fall face first into a brick surface and while her face up didn't get scratched, her nose was dented in badly. I can't recall if her owner was able to fix her or not. I've also seen fingers broken off resin hands before from a fall. They can be quite fragile at times. But the vinyls are well made and kind of absorb shocks well due to the nature of the vinyl since it's kind of squishy. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop. sinclair Posted December 2, 2018 I don't think I have a single girl that hasn't taken a fall at some point. Miku is the only one with a 'scar' from it, but unless you know where to look, and are looking for it, you'll never see it. This lovely ladies are meant to be played with, so play and don't fret. And if something were to happen, just accept it as a new part of their personality and story.
K-2 Posted December 3, 2018 Ten years and 40+ vinyls yeah, I've had a few take a dive. It can be emotionally devastating those first few times. Fortunately, vinyls are pretty resilient and most parts can be found and replaced. A face/head is the only part that can really suffer irreparable damage, but the chances are low that a doll will fall perfectly on the right part and the right surface to take that kind of damage. So your girl wasn't damaged. Relax and just take it as a lesson learned. But don't let it stop you from playing with your girl. If all she did was sit securely on a shelf or packed away in a box, that would be a really travesty.
jazijaz Posted December 3, 2018 Yesterday one of my girls fell from the shelfbut thankfully, nothing bad happened. I've dropped BJDs and they ways break or damage something, the nose or the fingers. Which is why I love DDs so much, they're stronger.

Yesterday I was so freak out and kept looking for any damages. But even there is one, I shouldn't focus on it. So your girl wasn't damaged. Relax and just take it as a lesson learned. You made a really good point about playing dolls. It would be sadder to leave her in a box. Today, I'm playing with her again and all my worries are gone. > w < Yesterday one of my girls fell from the shelfbut thankfully, nothing bad happened. Gabriel Posted December 3, 2018 Fell off a stand? Phfft. My original three girls must have wanted to be skydivers as often as they'd jump off tables and my desk. My first decided to do a backflip off a table while she was holding a Macross toy. The others haven't been quite brave enough to carry any other collectibles with them when they jump. One of them did spectacular olympic dive into the trash can next to my desk! I've been lucky. My girls don't seem to have suffered any lasting damage. However, the Macross toy mentioned above has a loose wing as the result of that little sortie. I've also had a couple of scale figures take a similar dive to my girl who really wanted to see the bottom of the trash can, and both of them suffered paint chips. It hasn't happened any more since I got proper metal stands for them. Also, I don't pose them freestanding anywhere near as often anymore. I basically learned their quirks and adapted to them. While I certainly don't know everything, I can more readily tell what's a stable and unstable stance for them now. Lacking a stand, I also learned that chairs and benches were their best friends. The above is really important. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
jazijaz Posted December 6, 2018 @jazijaz I used to own BJDs as well. My favourite one fell from the table during the meeting. Luckily, it was on the back. But I still not use to this kind of feeling. > x < I never knew that DD is so strong until today. New lesson learned! Thank you. You're welcome! DDs are strong but also fragile, the key is to know how to move their arms and legs or you can break them but I never had an issue with that. The only issue I see with DDs is the stains but I prefer DDs over everything else. They stand steady, they don't need MSC, and they pose nicely while some BJDs can be bad posers, or you need to do extra work so they can pose decently. My Volks boys have a hard time standing, they always fall forward and I have to restring them many times, I have to restring them every so often or they're like noodles. I can't stand shiny resin so I have to spray MSC over them. White resin becomes banana in a few years. I love my bjds but I hate so much how floppy they are sometimes. Also, I found out that stains on DDs disappear after a while. I put all my dolls away in the beginning of 2017 and I came back recently. I remember I took the shoes off of a DD and his feet were all black. I tried to remove it and it was like impossible so he went into his box like that. This year when I took him out his feet were clean. I know that two years is too long but now I don't worry that much about the stains, I'm careful but I don't panic like before. The same mechanisms that cause the materials responsible for the stains to appear in the first place don't stop once the stain appears. Those staining materials keep diffusing throughout the stained area. This can reduce the visual appearance of the stain if not make it seem to disappear entirely as the staining material continues to slowly spread into the vinyl. marishade Posted December 6, 2018 My vinyl dolls do not use stands, which means they do fall from time to time. The first few times it happened I freaked out because I own resin and porcelain dolls too ( and you do not want those to fall). Now, I do not worry about it at all except for the wig getting messed up or if the land face-down on rough concrete. Edit: For the record, none of my dolls have any damage. sinclair Posted December 7, 2018 Being unemployed I get to sit at home on the computer most of the day trying to find a job and do some side work, so I have been keeping a girl with me. Yesterday was Yaya's turn. I had to step away and when I cam back later she was sprawled face down on the floor in a snow angle like pose. I should have taken a photo, but I reacted too quickly by picking her up to make sure she was okay. Her face didn't look the worse for ware, but her eyes did roll into the back of her head. So time to break the putty out.
Monty Posted December 8, 2018 but her eyes did roll into the back of her head. I'm sorry but I laughed at this. That just makes it sound like she fainted and fell off herself. *twitter*instagram*art*

Looking up every once in a while to see where you are, then quickly laying back down. "Where is he? Yaya cannot wait down here all day!"

mahouhaiena Posted December 15, 2018 The Len DDSs are known to have a very VERY loose torso peg, so loose that mine will fall apart if you pick him up by his torso. I put some tape around the peg and it seemed to fix it. I was at Miku Expo waiting outside and handed my doll to someone to hold him as I got something out of my bag. Without thinking I handed him over holding him under his arms, and sure enough his bottom half (wearing shorts that revealed most of his legs, no protection on the legs at all) went crashing into wet hard cement. To my absolute amazement there wasn't a single scuff, stain or mark on the legs. I still can't believe it. The vinyl is far tougher than people give it credit for!! Mega Negi Posted January 8, 2019 Until this weekend, I would have said no. It finally happened at SacAnime when Miku did a stage dive off the table... I figure the universal answers are A: yes and B: not yet. I guess I dodged a bullet in a way because I had left off her hair band pieces and headset so they didn't break or get scuffed. Minty Posted January 13, 2019 I have my dolls seated on chairs. Sometimes I come home to find that the cats have knocked the dolls off of the chairs (presumably so that they can sit on the chair themselves). The dolls have always survived these falls without any damage.
