Heavy Body Staining

Recommended Posts

So im trying to decide between getting a DDS Boy Body or my dream doll Saber Alter either the Saber Alter 2 ver. or the Santa Alter ver. I found the Saber Alter 2 ver. But she has heavy staining on her legs and feet. No yellowing as i can see but how hard is it to get off heavy deep/dark stains?

Do you have photos?

If the staining is really heavy you probably just want to replace the legs and feet. While you can probably remove just about any degree of staining with time, if the staining is too pervasive you will spend more on stain remover and time than you will for new parts.

Here is a stain removal job I did on Yui Hirasawa: http://www.dollfiedreams.com/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=13215

The feet got replaced, and it turned out the vinyl was stained all the way through. The rest of the stains on her body and head came out with time and effort. Maybe about two months worth.

I did a similar job on Yukiho Hagiwara's legs and feet, and Snow Miku's legs and feet. Yukiho had some dark spots, and a general bluish cast all over both her feet. They took about 2 months to clean up.

For really bad stains all over pick a spot and get it clean, then move to the next. If the stain seems to stop fading, then stop treating for a few weeks and start again. I don't know why that works, but it seems to make a difference. With Yukiho's feet it was easier to see the fainter stains if I picked a spot like the heel of the foot, and got it clean. That made them stand out, and I knew what to work on next.

The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be.

“Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction

I'm guessing she looks something like this one, which seems pretty common for Saber Alter v2:

https://order.mandarake.co.jp/order/detailPage/item?itemCode=1096342103&ref=dos

A couple of things to keep in mind: From what I've read here and elsewhere, some stain treatments will cause the white skin to discolor. I assume the Volks Dream Rescue is safe as I don't think they say to not use it there. Second, white skin is basically discontinued, so having some spare parts now isn't a bad idea anyway. The new f3 bodies don't exist in white skin, and before Santa Saber Alter in 2016, the last WS doll was Saber Alter 2nd in 2011.

I don't have any personal experience with WS and am just passing on what I've gathered from reading.

The listing for the doll is on Mandarake. I hope the link works. I can't post pics yet. But it looks more like dirt and faint black stains.

They also have the Santa Alter ver. But her head is yellowed. Can yellowing be fixed?

Its more so on her feet and like chin areas and its more dirty than stained but there are blue-ish black stains on her as well. I have a Dollfie Dream Miku but she's never been stained that badly just a faint removable spot so i'm not experienced with staining

The dark blue stains are clearly from Alter's own clothes... Volks outfits are notorious

Alter is the last [?] girl Volks made in White Skin so keep in mind future parts may be difficult. Also a thought - what kind of outfits do you plan she wear in the future anyway? If her legs will usually be covered, faint stains may not be on display anyway

Those stains in the link you posted aren't really that bad. The arm and leg ones should come out no problem; it will just take multiple treatments and some time and patience. The feet stains should as well the ones on the bottom possibly excepted. If you plan to use the default outfit or something else that covers the feet it's no issue anyway.

Caveat still being that certain treatments will damage the white skin. I don't know which ones may do that; I'd personally just stick with the Volks Dream Rescue since it's their product and created specifically for their dolls.

I'd go for this over the one with the yellowed head. I believe Meguchi knows how to fix that but I'm not sure if it can be done without damaging the faceup. My viewpoint is the head is the priceless part of the doll, everything else can be replaced if it had to be.

Edit: As Chise says, those stains are definitely from her outfit. Black or dark blue clothing will leave blue or purple looking stains on the vinyl, typically not black stains.

According to other info I've read, that dress isn't bad about staining, and the pictures reflect that. The stains on the arms would be from points under pressure from the arms being bent, most likely. Her socks definitely stain badly though, which is what you can see on the legs on the much worse stained one I linked before. Those socks you can, and should, wash, which may help.

How bad is yellowing? I've never experienced it before. I dont really take my dolls out in the sun and i know thats one of the main causes for yellowing. But if i have a wig on her it probably wouldnt be noticeable. I'd never sell her. I also found Meguchi's post and it sounds like a very easy and simple yellowing fix. It's not all over the face it's in between the head cap and the actual face

I can't really answer that as I have no experience with a yellowed doll nor have I ever seen one.

It's not sunlight specifically; it's UV that does it. So fluorescent lights are a big culprit as well, and dolls in strongly lit display cases with such lights (like store displays) would no doubt really cause that to happen.

There may be other causes like staining from clothes, skin oils, who knows.

I mean there are other dolls that i really like. I looked on Volks, and their white skinned replacement parts are all sold out. So i guess unless they release another White skinned doll which they probably won't since their brown skinned dolls are only available in store. Until i find one in good condition i probably wont be getting Saber. But i found Yuriko Nanao. Which i was really excited when volks released her but i wasn't able to get her, So its now a tie between her or a Smart Doll

I'm not seeing anything there that can't be treated, but it's going to take time. For the price break I would say it's worth it, but I want to give an important caveat. I like to restore dolls like that, so this totally seems like a good project to me. It's going to take a lot of work, probably a couple of months, during which your new doll will be in pieces. The nice thing about feet is when you area treating them you can just stuff her stumpy legs into a pair of boots, and she will look almost normal but just a bit short. This will help because the feet are probably going to take longer than the other parts.

If you can find feet in WS then I would just replace them, I think you could end up using an entire container of Dream Rescue just on the feet, so I think the price there is a break even on replacement. There is some yellowish discoloration on the top & bottom of the feet too. I can't really see if it is grime or spots on the vinyl.

I've never used Dream Rescue on WS, so I don't know what, if any, cautions there are about the cream on WS.

To me it looks like the feet are dirty more than they are stained. Im just worried about ruining the vinyl more than anything else. But i have another two dollies in mind. Either Yuriko Nanao, which i was in with that doll when she was released but due to money issues i didnt have enough saved in time. Or i might get my first Smart Doll

Its funny how good the iM@S girls look in the “gear” sets. Her face is perfect in that, but imo she needs a period wig, or at a minimum a black haired wig in her own style.

If I am not mistaken WS is a discontinued type now, so the drawback to Saber Alter is that you are dependent on aftermarket for everything. Other items like special option hands, new busts, the new F3 body, will not be made in WS.

Yeah, which sucks because i think the white skin dolls are beautiful~ But unless i can get a Saber Alter for a reasonable price in good condition, it's probably better to just get a different doll.

I liked the WS Lucy Maria Misora, but when I read about the issues with WS I kind of wrote her off.

She looked so nice though, and the pale pink hair looked great with her skin color.

I kind of wonder if SWS wasn’t intended as a replacement for WS fairly early on in its lifecycle. It seems like they really ramped down WS production long before the officially discontinued it.

They probably weren't thinking of how delicate the WS would be. It stains easily from what i heard

If it helps at all here are some photo's of my Yuriko wearing Sailor Moons outfit.

http://www.dollfiedreams.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=17731&p=240433#p240433

My Yuriko has been swapped to an S-bust unitorso, but her default is the M-bust two piece torso.
