Aloha From the Tropics

Greetings with the spirit of aloha, from here on the sunny and warm island of Oahu, Hawaii. It might be wintertime, but in Hawaii, Santa wears surfer shorts with that red coat of his (seriously)!

 

There doesn't seem to be a suggested introduction format, so I'll just wing it.

 

I got into DD in 2009 with the release of Rin Tohsaka, entirely by chance because I happened to look at Danny Choo's blog the day Rin's lottery announcement went up. Love at first sight, with (what I thought was) the best-made anime figure I'd ever seen. It wasn't until later I realized that she was two feet tall! I had to learn about what a DD even was and how to buy one all in a rather short period of time. Ended up winning Rin's USA lottery and welcoming her in person at Volks LA during a trip to Anime Expo.

 

Rin-chan's still my daughter, and I admit she's a rather pampered one who is very loved. She is an only child. But sometimes she likes to cosplay as other DDs when she can get their clothes!

 

One interesting thing I've noticed about the Dollfie hobby is that, unlike my other hobbies, there are so many international people into it. It makes me sad to see people say they want something but can't order it due to geographic restrictions. Since I happen to live in the USA, I am willing to act as a proxy for overseas buyers who want to buy from Volks USA. Shipping isn't cheap to Hawaii, but it can be an option for you.

Aw, Rin is such a beautiful girl! Why not looking for a sister for her? Maybe she feels a bit lonely in your figure collection (sometimes DDs doesn't get along with others type of figures...) XD

Your proxy idea is really nice! Usually people from Europe have many problems when buying DD from Volks Int. or from auctions... These proxies from all over America will save us a lot of money <3 Thank You!

Wow, thanks everyone, I feel very welcomed here! DDreams sure is a friendly board, which is both unusual and cool - not unlike the dolls it is dedicated to, come to think of it!

 

@all: Warning: Photography skills very lacking, so any pictures of Rin will be of point-and-shoot quality I am afraid. *sweatdrop* Please forgive that if you can when you look at them. BUT, that said, I see we have some much more knowledgeable people on the forums than I about lighting and camera usage. So many of us here love photoshoots of their dolls I see! I hope to learn from you and improve my photography skill over time.

 

Where is the "proper" place on DDreams to put pictures of Rin? I could think of this thread, individual threads in the pictures forum, the family thread in the DD Database forum, and possibly somewhere else (I see an Images: count next to the Post: count for some people) as possible places.

 

@milkytea: LOL, yes her scale sure was a surprise! Even though I had pulled out a measuring tape to better learn how tall DDs were "in theory", as I was waiting for Rin's lottery results.. ..the sheer size and awesome impact of the dolls did not really hit home until I walked into Volks USA and saw SDs and DDs in person for the first time. The impression she left in person made me love Rin even more than I expected to before I met DDs ^_^;.

 

@ilvias: Hehe, Rin gets along well with my regular anime figures, but I hear often that she covets their clothes for cosplay. Just recently Rin got a Kinomoto Sakura (Tsubasa ver) outfit after conspiring with my PVC Sakura. "How good would this look in real fabric at 1/3 scale, hmm?"

 

Don't tell Rin yet, but she actually does have her first sister on the way in six months or so. Saber Alter2 will be joining her and will start sharing her wardrobe...

Rin is such a pretty girl! One of my unicorns for sure. Please share A LOT of pictures of her! I bet she will be very glad that a sister is coming! And being a girl she already knows, it will be very special.

 

Don't be shy about your photos. Yes, we have a bunch of nice photographers here, but what really matter is showing love for your girl and having fun, not the skills we have... Besides, taking pictures is the only way to be a good photographer!
