JoltFiend Posted December 27, 2011 I don't think you can get more off-topic than with something like this. I have a bit of an interest in astronomy and have had the interest since I was a little kid. A class field trip to the Griffith Park Observatory in Los Angeles lit the fire and the TV show Cosmos helped fuel it. I'm currently on NASA's science news mailing list, and every so often, I'll get a post regarding something I could actually take a picture of without having to be up at the dead of night or at Dark O'clock in the morning. I took a picture of this earlier this evening, braving the cold and scratching up my legs getting up onto the roof. Usually you can't see it, but thanks to "Earthshine", the rest of the moon is illuminated. I'd like to think that I did a decent job with my camera and stock lens. SakuraSylph Posted December 27, 2011 I checked this out earlier tonight after hearing the news. I hadn't realized just how white the color temperature of venus would be, even placed right next to the moon. Nor did the atmosphere make it twinkle, as the other stars that were out did. Perhaps the light was just strong enough to cut through uninterrupted. SakuraSylph
galatia9 Posted December 27, 2011 Very interesting, and excellent photo! I loved the show "Cosmos" too, Carl Sagan made astronomy understandable and fascinating for everyone. mitsuki Posted December 27, 2011 My dad and I were looking at that last night. The Earthshine on the moon was so beautiful. Your photo came out great!
