Riesz Posted January 7, 2019 Hi everyone! I've been interested in trying a light tent but they seem a bit expensive to purchase from Amazon, etc.... so I decided to try making my own! Supplies: 2 LED desk lamps, $5.99 each at Target 1 large box, leftover from moving X-Acto knife or scissors Parchment paper or tissue paper Tape Backdrop, such as poster board, fabric, etc. ---------- Since my box is a tall, rectangular shape, I decided to cut off one side. If the box was square, I would have simply cut off the top flaps. I used an X-Acto knife to slice off one side of the box completely, then turned the box and cut frames out of the two adjacent sides, leaving about 2" of cardboard on the frame to keep it sturdy. I decided to also tape up the top of the box and slice a small window on there as well. Since my tissue paper was not large enough to cover the side windows, I decided to use parchment/baking paper. It's very slippery and kept sliding out from under the tape, so I suggest using tissue if possible. The tissue/parchment helps diffuse the bright light of the desk lamps. Position a lamp at each window, shining the light into the box! Here's the overall outcome of the light box, with a blanket used as a temporary backdrop. I plan to get a few colours of posterboard or paper for a variety of backdrops! Hope this is helpful.
sinclair Posted January 8, 2019 Good idea. I've wanted to make one for a while, but I have no place to store it when I'm not taking photos. Plus I don't have the right lenses to make the most out of it.
