The "with (or without) fee" message is about the 8% Japanese consumption tax. That's an annoyance as well, because that tax is like VAT from Europe, it really shouldn't be charged for overseas orders while Volks is charging it to us. Many places don't pass that tax on though some do, and some like Amiami just list the retail prices as if it is included, though since they discount most things you may or may not pay it. But I think this is like what you say, Volks doesn't have enough of a market for overseas sales to treat them differently.

In these currently messed-up emails though that is an additional factor and the one I was talking about above when I said my head hurt, because the current emails list the prices and subtotal without the consumption tax, but includes this new fee.

The way @kct's actual invoice looks, it's also possible that he wasn't actually charged this fee even though it's initially shown. In that case it's just that Volks is charging the extra 5% for those paying Paypal to cover those fees. Since I don't use PP I don't know if they did that before, and I have no problem with them doing that anyway.

Before I get further irritated I'll wait and see what I'm actually charged for the order. Either way, Volks really should fix these emails, because besides of the prices not showing up correctly, it's still claiming I paid by Paypal when I did not and others are saying the same here.

Well, those other sites you listed also cater to outside Japan groups while Volks doesn't.  I'll have to go check my old invoices, I also thought they had charged some extra fee, which is why some people only order form Volks USA as the items would be cheaper without that fee (Didn't Volks Int always list price of things as 'with or plus fee' or something like that?  If this is a new fee, then that is really lame on their part.).

Volks USA is not an option for me due to shipping prices. Granted, I'm in Southeast Asia so Volks Japan makes more sense in my opinion. Unfortunately, most of the other official dealers either only sell full sets, or added a markup on individual parts. In one case, it is not meant to cater anyone outside of the dealer's country of origin.

Actually Volks USA will only sell to North America.  I guess I should have clarified that a little better.  Sometimes I forget just how many members are outside the USA.

Just an update to what I said before: I got my shipping notice for my order from the 17th just now, which was basically the exact same amount of time I waited for the last order I made before the site changed (also by card), maybe only a few days extra. I was wondering if it was going to take a month or more given how long people seem to have to wait with PayPal, but it seems like either they’ve gone back to normal or paying by card is still the better option if you can. (Unless you don’t mind the wait - it sounds like as long as you actually check out the item you have it)

Same for me: I just got a shipping notice as well for the order I placed on 03/22.

I did not get the payment charged email beforehand like I used to though. I am going to check what I was actually charged so I can see if I was charged the 5% fee or not.

I had an experience with this earlier this year for the February clothes as I was dying to get that dark suit for my girl.  I ordered the minute they went up, and I didn't get an invoice for a week, and then I actually had to e-mail them about shipping two weeks later.

I know they just went through a site refresh (rebuild?) so I cut them some slack, does anybody know if they're working on this?

Well, as I and @Monty are discussing just above, if you pay by credit card you can pay immediately and the orders are being processed in a timely manner, just as it worked before they overhauled the site. There are still some quirks like the confirmation email still saying you used Paypal, and the prices showing up without the consumption tax even though you are charged that.

If you still want to use Paypal, I don't know if it's any better than what you experienced though.

Tried to order from them, and got this error:

"郵便番号は半角数字またはハイフン 8桁で入力してください。"

Problem is, my country postcode only have 5 digits, and apparently any changes to the address book doesn't show up in the order billing.

EDIT: Turns out I need to change the postcode in my web user info to "--------".

.... I have no words.

I spent 30 minutes trying to get an order through.

I have literally never seen a web store as bad as this.

Quoting myself to add a bit further info to this...

I can't be 100% certain until I have a credit card bill that shows the actual yen amount before conversion as that information isn't shown to me online. But doing my own reverse conversion on the dollar amount I was charged for this order, it appears what Volks is doing now is the following:

  • Sales outside of Japan are no longer charged the 8% consumption tax; in other words while the website prices still show "(with fee)" once you put it in your cart, that fee isn't included even though the listing will still say "(tax included)" and isn't included in the total shown or in the confirmaton email.
  • There is a 5% handling fee added to the order.

So the order confirmation email I got before would be the correct amount shown as is the order summary online, except those don't enumerate the 5% fee at all, and don't show the shipping charge.

If this is correct and it continues to work this way, then it's still a little cheaper than ordering previously, as 5% beats 8%. I'll still complain that this fee isn't really explained, and doesn't show up until you are at the order confirmation point after you've already entered card information.

With my recent order, paid via PayPal, like you said they added about 5% for "commission" but did not charge Japanese sales tax. "Commission" appears to be added regardless of paying via PayPal or credit card.

  • Thanks 1

Thanks for the confirmation.

Jungle was doing this; their payments used to all go through Paypal and they charged that 5% fee obstensibly for Paypal. But then they switched how they do credit cards, and stil charged the fee. Jungle has also been doing "system maintenance" for more months than I can remember so I guess they no longer do overseas sales.

In Volks' case, given my confirmation email still had the references saying I had paid by Paypal, there's a possibility this is an error though. As I keep griping about, if they just explained the fee it would end the confusion and annoyance.

I also spent WAY too much time trying to get an order through with error message over and over again about postal code. Was determined to buy what I wanted & not sure how I ended up correcting issuet but, finally got it. The money was taken from Paypal right away & it was mailed a few days later with no issues. Hopefully, next time it will go smoothly.Hang in there!

Question... when you submit your order... it's supposed to go completely through right? I tried to place my order - it forwarded me through to PayPal; I selected my payment options; it tried to process the payment; and then it failed. I received the below error.

Is this what's supposed to happen?

決済の確定に失敗しました。
恐れ入りますが、再処理をお願いいたします。

Failed to finalize payment.
Excuse me, but please reprocess.

Have you checked the card to see if it was declined?

The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be.

I'm not seeing anything on my card or my PP account. (My payment was part balance and part credit card... I'm wondering if that might be the issue?)

I've never tried that, but you might try it without doing that if you can.

Some sites defintely do not allow that kind of split payment. When I had my own fiasco with Paypal last year (don't worry I won't tell that story again ) and I had to spend the tiny bit of balance I had so I could close the account, it was difficult because anywhere I wanted to order from didn't let me do this. I ended up buying something on one of those "pay what you want for item" sites to spend the balance.

I have a 74 cent balance that I can't do anything with, and that is a great idea.

Oh no. ROFL

I'm wondering if my card go flagged because I don't shop overseas often? That's the only other thing I can think of. I'm going to wait a bit to see if anything turns up.

Card providers usually will not block transactions with foreign sites unless it is explicitly stated that they do. In that case just check with your card provider and request for them to clear your card for foreign transactions.

Nope... doing a non-split payment just with my credit card didn't work either. I feel like the problem might with the site. It would've saved me some money to order international,  but I think I might be stuck just ordering from the USA site.

Hey all!

I was just wondering, has anyone had good experiences ordering from the site from the UK? There are some outfits I really want to order from there, but have never done so before. I was hoping to pay via PayPal, but it seems a lot of people have problems with that option? 😧 Just wondering if orders are generally okay when you're overseas~

When trying to place an order: "An error has been detected in your screen operation."

Anyone has any idea what this could mean?
(perhaps paypal related?)

has anyone here ever been double charged with paypal? i made my first order through the international website a few days ago and was shocked to find a dupe transaction in my bank account. it's been solved now, thankfully, but i was wondering if anyone else had had this issue.

mainly asking since i never got an answer to whether or not it was a volks issue, a paypal issue or a bank issue.
