Base Bodies Typo on Volks USA store?

Recommended Posts

Strawberry Tea

Hi again,

Thanks for helping me with my other question about DD and DDS. I have new one now.

So, on the Volks USA Store, the bases with the f3 option have the size listed as Mini Dollfie Dream. The only exception is DD Dynamite, which has the correct size listed and MDD. I'm 99% sure this is a copy/paste typo but wanted to ask since these bases cost $350 dollars.

I was going to link to each base I listed as an example, but my account doesn't allow me to post links yet.

The non f3 options don't list a size, just specs for the base.

Examples:

DD Base Body (DD-f3) / Semi-White

$350.00

Short description:

Size: Mini Dollfie Dream (MDD)

Frame: DD-f3

Memo: This item is not compatible with the DDIII Frame.

Dollfie Dream® III Base Body Semi-White

$308.00

Short description:

Skin Tone: Normal, Semi-White Sculpted by : ZOUKEI-MURA INC. Doll Design : VOLKS Doll Design

Department Includes : Assembled Body by...

DDS Base Body (DD-f3) / Normal

$350.00

Short description:

Size: Mini Dollfie Dream (MDD)

Frame: DD-f3

Memo: This item is not compatible with the DDIII Frame.

Do all dollfies use the same frame, just scaled to fit? Does the name of the internal frame follow the naming convention of hte base body? Eg: MDD-f3 would have a MDD-f3 frame, DDIII would have a DDIII frame, DDS-f3 would have a DDS-f3 frame. Is that correct or am I wrong?

And one last question. Is the only difference between the DDIII and the DD-f3 that the DD-f3 has the new frame. It kinda threw me off that the Volks shop didn't list it as DDIII-f3.

Thank you soooo much for reading through my long rambling post. I never seem able to write anything that's not 1000 words long.

Thanks for any clarification!

For sure those are typos, and maybe they're fixed now? I checked and I'm seeing the correct descriptions.

The frames are sized differently for the different bodies, with certain exceptions. What you are saying is logically correct, but Volks isn't using that terminology. They are referring to the frame as DD-f3 no matter which size it is. That's because Dollfie Dream is the name of the overall line of dolls, as well as the name of the standard/original large size. But it can lead to confusion for sure.

[The main exception is the upper frame that goes inside the bust piece; that is the same for DD, DDS, and DDdy, both for f3 and the previous version. On the old bodies that was somewhat confusing since that part had a DDS number and was usually only on that part of the Volks webstores.]

It's also the case that historically the naming hasn't been completely consistent. DDIII was the third DD body hence that name, but it was structurally equivalent to DDS which has no number because it was the first of that size

And one last question. Is the only difference between the DDIII and the DD-f3 that the DD-f3 has the new frame. It kinda threw me off that the Volks shop didn't list it as DDIII-f3.

That's because it's no longer a DDIII, as might be a little more clear from my comment above. Ignoring frame types (or "doll generations") there are four types of DDs: Dollfie Dream (DD), Dollfie Dream Sister (DDS), Dollfie Dream Dynamite (DDdy) and Mini Dollfie Dream (MDD).

It may be easier to think of it like this--previous to f3, the body types were numbered by generation (or revision, or whatever you want to think of it as), so there was Dollfie Dream, Dollfie Dream II, and Dollfie Dream III. Dollfie Dream Sister was still on the first generation. If I'm not mistaken, Dollfie Dream Dynamite broke this too as I believe there are only two versions of it but the last one was still calle Dollfie Dream Dynamite III because it was equivalent to Dollfie Dream III and used the same arms and shins.

With f3, each doll has just reverted to its base name (DD, DDS, DDdy, MDD) with a "DD-f3" designation to describe which frame type (doll generation) it is. I think this is going to lead to confusion and they would have been better served to use just "f3" instead of "DD-f3".

I feel like I have probably added to the confusion instead of helping...
