CrazyDollPerson Posted January 21, 2019 (edited) I put a new wig on her and changed her outfit. I find her quite endearing Edited to add new picture with lighter eyes. The photo is very hazy because the lighting in here is no good. I am not sure how I feel about them yet. Edited February 2, 2019 by Guest
Poofiemus Posted January 21, 2019 Oooh, yes, I feel like the darker hair color balances out the strength of the faceup. It's funny, twintails are supposed to feel younger, but this makes me want to call her "onee-san". In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser. It's funny, twintails are supposed to feel younger, but this makes me want to call her "onee-san". Her make up is very strong, I feel like it is more suited to being very dressed up. I tried many wigs on her and this one just clicked for me. There are definitely things that just don't work well with this face up.

These were the lightest ones I had actually. I do plan to buy her new eyes at some point that are all her own, but for now these were the best option. I had a really hard time getting them to stay in as the inner eye sticks up so I had to use a ton of the putty stuff. cfx Posted January 22, 2019 I had a really hard time getting them to stay in as the inner eye sticks up so I had to use a ton of the putty stuff. Definitely a learning curve with these I'm having the same problem. I put them in and they don't stay. I finally get them to seemingly stay and the head is so hard to get on and off the neck pin that I squeeze the head enough they start to come loose again. Previously I had tried the Volks putty and had no luck at all with that holding. Now I'm using a white version of the fairly typical blu-tak (so it hopefully won't stain) but still having a poor experience. I'm probably not using enough, but if that's the case I didn't buy enough to do two dolls.
Poofiemus Posted January 22, 2019 Yeah, I wound up beveling the eye wells on my Miku when I did her face up--her eye holes are weirdly deep. Cauldroness said that she liked Arietta Project eyes in the Miku head she for a while, because they don't have much dome, so therefore they sit closer to the hole part of the eye well. sinclair Posted January 23, 2019 Previously I had tried the Volks putty and had no luck at all with that holding. I found that you have to work the putty in your hands a few times before it sticks, like kneading dough. Then really squish it in places with a plastic stick. Once I did that I have not had eyes fall out of place.
cfx Posted January 23, 2019 Yeah, I wound up beveling the eye wells on my Miku when I did her face up--her eye holes are weirdly deep. How did you do this? I have one head where one eye doesn't really sit right because there is a bump in the interior vinyl just outboard of the eye socket, and also the sockets themselves aren't shaped quite right. I worked on it as carefully as I could first with 600 sandpaper and also one of those Volks beveling tools for their resin heads. I ended up with fuzz on the eye socket, and trying to clean that up I damaged the Volks faceup, on an expensive limited head. Since that I'm afraid to touch a head. Cauldroness said that she liked Arietta Project eyes in the Miku head she for a while, because they don't have much dome, so therefore they sit closer to the hole part of the eye well. I've avoided buying these because in all the pictures I see of them in DDs they just look like shiny printed paper to me; there's so little dome there's no lensing effect or what I consider the main point of having eyes over just printed ones like some Azones have. I wish I didn't feel that way since they have a lot of styles and I'm having trouble finding things that work for what I'm trying to do, especially since Volks has now discontinued so many styles--only 7 styles are still made by Volks now. This thread from Cauldroness: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=9665 The eye designs are really pretty but they look dead to me; there's barely any reflections unlike the Volks eyes in the first picture, and I don't like the look. I see the same thing in any other pictures of them I have found, like here: http://puppy52dolls.com/dollfie-dream/arietta-project-eyes/ Previously I had tried the Volks putty and had no luck at all with that holding. I found that you have to work the putty in your hands a few times before it sticks, like kneading dough. Then really squish it in places with a plastic stick. Once I did that I have not had eyes fall out of place. Thanks. I did the kneading because it wasn't soft enough to use otherwise, and I tried the squishing but I think I sucked at that part, and probably didn't have the best tool. Eventually the putty started sticking to that so it was pulling loose more than being pushed into place. It's cold in my house this time of year and that may have made it worse. I found access to the lower side of the eyes and between them hard to get to. I think part of my problem was just initial placement of the putty. I ran a ring of it around the eyes as I've seen others do but then it wasn't even contacting the head in some areas. Maybe the stuff I got isn't the best but it was sold for the purpose and I liked that it was white/uncolored. Seeing some pictures since I think I just didn't use enough too so it didn't have enough contact area. I don't think I actually have enough to put in as much as I've seen in pictures in both dolls. CrazyDollPerson Posted January 23, 2019 (sorry the multiquote got everything jumbled so I deleted it so as not to have a wall of text) I have been using the Mack's putty that people use for ear plugs on mine. It is very soft and easy to use, the problem is the eye sockets stick up inside so the eye is kind of floating in there and these eyes are a bit wider so they overhang. I get the putty to stick but then the eye has shifted and I have to fix it which causes the putty to move etc. It was a chore. I have seen some eyes on etsy I like just not sure on exactly what color I want for her.

I don't think I actually have enough to put in as much as I've seen in pictures in both dolls. Yes, it takes a lot. Do not be afraid to go over board on the eye putty. Using the stuff Volks sells, I get 3 eyes out of one container, if I'm careful. So plan one per head. As for reaching below the eyes and tight spaces, I just use the pointy end of the Volks hair toothbrush. The putty doesn't stick to it too bad, and I kind of rock it as I pull it out and that seems to keep the putty from coming with it.
KinokoParadise Posted January 24, 2019 Lookin good! It's always nice to see a Miku with a custom Faceup. Her face sculpt has a lot of untapped potential. Also, I'm a sucker for multi-colored wigs.
cfx Posted January 24, 2019 I get the putty to stick but then the eye has shifted and I have to fix it which causes the putty to move etc. It was a chore. This is an issue I had as well. They'd finally seem to be holding but wouldn't be in the right position, I'd try to shift them a bit and then they'd come loose again. I guess it just takes practice to get them in right. I don't have that hair tootbrush, but I used the pointy end of a "wisp" (one of those disposable toothbrush things) which is shaped about the same. At first it worked decently but then it started sticking and was pulling the putty loose as much as pushing it in. Using more putty and just practice I'm sure will work, it was just pretty frustrating. I'd get them placed what I thought looked right and then they'd move again, and trying to nudge them a bit would make them come loose.
CrazyDollPerson Posted January 24, 2019 I was looking at the eyes on the volks USA site and put several in my wishlist that I think would work for her. I am just not sure what size to get
cfx Posted January 25, 2019 Probably you don't want 20mm as you tend to get the "surprised" look with that on most heads though that is usually the best size for some heads with smaller eye holes like Sheryl Nome. Between 22mm and 24mm it depends on your taste and the eye design. Volks' default eyes in Miku are 22mm while Snow Miku has 24mm so you can check pictures of those. That's a fairly narrow iris eye design and the eyes look smaller because of it. For rounder eye designs 24mm may look too large or give you the "no white" look. Also be aware that the following Volks eyes are all discontinued so whatever is in stock is likely all there will ever be. Volks Japan already removed what they had of these styles when they changed their webstore. Type-A Type-B Type-C Type-D Type-E Type-G Type-H Type-M Type-P

I will have to check my wishlist eyes and see if any of those are on it. I will also check out both Miku's to see which eye "look" I like best.
choi0826 Posted January 27, 2019 I think the headmold of miku is very cute! Miku fits many wig styles and clothes!
CrazyDollPerson Posted January 27, 2019 I bought her some eyes from volks and I am hoping they will work. I got the 24MM Type-I Sumire. I like the no white look and thought those would look good with her wig. We shall see
CrazyDollPerson Posted February 2, 2019 Here she is with the new eyes. I am not sure how I feel about them. I do think the lighter eyes make her pop more but I think they might be TOO light.
sinclair Posted February 2, 2019 I like the new ones alot better.
cfx Posted February 2, 2019 Maybe raise them a bit? It could be the angle of the picture or it could be the look you want, but usually I've found (and read) they look best if any cut-off is only on or mostly on the top and not the bottom. There can certainly be exceptions; I was happier with mine when I moved them down where I violated that. At least from how they look in the pictures, they're a definite improvement I think. CrazyDollPerson Posted February 16, 2019 She is sos gorgeous ! Thanks I am iffy about her, I think I need to try different eyes and clothes until I either find what I like best or I may see about selling her. She just isn't completely clicking with me. I like her, but I am just not really as happy with her as I am with other dolls I have so I need to try other things on her and go from there now that I have finally moved and have the time to actually spend with her.
