My take on Joan of Arc ( lots of pics )

Recommended Posts

I've been checking out photos of everyone's Jeanne lately and while she looks great and extremely well done, I wanted to do something a little different with her. I also wanted to show some detailed pics of her outfit and armor that I haven't seen elsewhere.

I didn't preorder her, I wanted Saber more. But I did go into a group order for her and managed to get all her outfit, armor and accessories. Now all I needed was someone to wear all of it.....

I'm not deep into history or anything and I'm definitely not a sucker for realism or accuracy but seeing as I know the real Joan of Arc wasn't a buxom blonde with hair down to her shins, I decided to go for a more down to earth look for mine.

I introduce to you my Kirika dressed as Joan.

I used Kirika mainly because she has the same body style as Jeanne ( DD with Shapely L-bust ) but also because she fits the more commonly used historical look of Joan.... younger, boyish and short darker hair. Yes some ancient paintings do show Joan with blonde hair but it's usually not past her shoulders or elbows.

But we're not here to debate how she looked, we're here to see her outfit and armor and amazing weaponry.

We'll start down low with her boots. Well, maybe boots aren't the correct term. Armored sandals? XD

Unlike the older boots of Saber, these are not full foot replacements. These are shoes you have to take apart and build around her feet. Kind of neat but also a bit fidegty.

The rest of the armor is really cool and well made. There are only 4 points I do not like on it. 2 of them are shown here. Those little cross shaped things are the only points holding those side plates onto the rest of the armor set. They have TINY little pegs on the back to hold on to the larger plates and they can swing up and down by small hinges. While they look cool and are hidden well, they seem extremely fragile.

Everything else is awesome tho. For instance the arm setup is crazy detailed and made. In this pic there are FIVE separate parts making up the armor from top to glove.

Her skirt is lined with wiring so it can be posed like others we've seen. The sword scabbard is well made and detailed too, I really like the belt that holds it.

The headpiece is really nice, heavy and detailed. It's ABS plastic but has some real heft to it.

My favorite bits are her gloved hands and sword. The level of detail is amazing on them. Jeanne comes with SIX armored hands. Open pair, sword holding pair and staff/flag holding pair. The rapier style of the sword hilt is really cool, no other Volks swords have this kind of craftsmanship to them.

The rest of the outfit is just as nicely done.

The colors are nice and bold.

Posing with the armor is pretty good too, you can get some stoic poses like this:

"Minions! Bring forth.... THE FLAG."

Ahhh yes, The Flag. THE FLAG IS HUGE.

I was blown away with how high a quality this thing is. And it's heavy, really heavy.

While it looks cool and is hands down the biggest DD accessory ever made..... it's annoying as all get out. LOL Seriously, it was bending the pole it mounts to due to the weight. I tried some poses with it but it was so awkward and funky to pose, I gave up. But that led me to playing with her giant spear/staff. It's made of aluminum and plastic and the tips are neat. Here's the bottom part.

The top part ( or business end as I call it ) looks like this.

Since the spear is made in parts, you can take it apart and reassemble it into a smaller spear. I really like the look of this.

I hadn't seen anyone using her spear like this so I tried a few things with it and was pleased.

She looks like she can aim pretty well with this.

And at rest it still looks manageable.

So there we go! I love the outfit and armor, it's extremely well done. I'm happy I got it and I'm sure I will use it in future photo shoots. I think I'll need to get ALL my armored girls together for one big brawl.

Wow, I love the look of her all the way around! Nice choices, I think your rendition is probably closer to accuracy. I love her faceup and head sculpt too. I am not familiar with what sculpts are what, but I really like this one.

Thank you very much! Kirika is an 09 head with a faceup by Freya. When I saw her for adoption I scooped her up immediately! Those freckles were just soooo cute!

That flag... Jeeze. Kirika looks badass in all that armour, she makes a lovely Joan!

I know right? I do love the look of the flag but it's pretty useless overall. That's why I put it away and have her with the shorter spear now. Thank you very much about Kirika!

Love these photos!

I like history a lot and Joan's story is one that has fascinated me for awhile. While I love the Fate/Stay Night version of Joan, she is not really Joan to me. This one feels a little closer to the actual subject material so thanks for that!

I do love that outfit, and the sword is beautifully detailed. But that flag, I seriously cannot wrap my head around how big it is, I feel like it is almost the size of my scale lightsaber with how it towers over the doll's head!
