I managed to snag what I wanted in the clickwar, which was mostly the iM@S items, but I added in the jean jackets and khaki shorts for DD/DDP in order to make the shipping on the other stuff a more sensible prospect. 

Website performance wasn't too bad, but the popup messages in Japanese are a bit problematic.

I ordered Eternal Rose outfit ^^

Went back and grabbed the other stuff I wanted including the sofa. Only thing I wanted that was out of stock was the carry case. I’ll go after that from Volks USA maybe along with some of the shoes. 

I just went on a 5000 mile road trip with 4 dolls. I had planned on just taking Ami and Makoto, but Volks USA sent me a notice about the arrival of Oscar & Mars right before I left, so I decided to swing by their offices as I passed through SoCal. Traveling 5000 miles with four dolls, two of them in Volks doll boxes, isn’t something I would recommend. I do have one of their carry cases, along with wrapping blankets and SD face masks. I was able to get Ami, Makoto, and Rei into the one carry case all wrapped safely for travel, and Oscar was in the padded pillow thing SD come in. Definitely getting a second case though, 4 dolls would have been a snap with a second case. 

And for the record, the heavy duty shopping bags Volks puts SD boxes in have some serious staying power. 5000 miles, 11 hotels, not a tear in the bag, but it is kind of wrinkled now. 

 

Anyways, long and the the short of it is I do recommend those carry cases. 

What did Volks charge in shipping for that sofa? I thought it was pretty nice but figured that would greatly increase the cost, figuring at least 6000 yen for shipping based on what they charged me for stands.

Shipping and handling was ¥7800. The only other items were two camis and some socks, so almost all of the cost would be the sofa.

Yeah that's what I feared. I like the sofa, but I don't love it, so at that total price it's not for me.

Amiami charged me 8560 yen to ship this 1/4 Luka figure so I kinda expected something similar:

I am sure Volks USA will offer it. I wanted to get it from them, but at the same time I worried that the lottery for it would be fierce. Once I saw it was still up on the Volks Int site I decided that in this case a bird in hand was worth two in the bush. I don't have any furniture for photos, so I took the safe bet and ate the shipping.

For a variety of reasons I want to support Volks USA as much as possible. They've really been working hard to bring a lot of stuff over that used to be Japan only, and I think that should be rewarded with customer loyalty. This years LA Dolpa seems to have a lot of stuff that they weren't able to offer in the past, and I think that must have taken some real hard work on their part to arrange. On top of that I know how hard it can be to do business in California due to all the taxes and the cost of land.

Yeah I appreciate some of the things they've managed to do like bring those pink and teal chair stands here and make them possible to get.

I may just get those and pass on this. I've been planning for a while to build a wooden bench for DDs but I've been too down to do it I guess.

Those didn't appeal to me as much. I have four of the white ones and they are nice stands. I haven't looked at these in particular, but with the white ones you get the chair part, and not the base stand it goes on. You still have to buy that separately, but you can buy them without the saddle part at a somewhat lower cost. If you do go for it be be sure and get the ones with the stand post in the center of the base, assuming that the base isn't already included with this special order.

So my photo studio is a bit closer to becoming a reality now. I still need some more interesting backdrops, a floor mat, and more props.

 

I also got this strange idea in my head that Iori would look good with heterochromia.

The sofa was really well packed, and came in a large box with lots of padding around the inner box.

Wish that couch was a little cheaper cause it looks really great. I just can’t justify spending the same for a doll sofa as I paid for my own ha. 

Heterochromia is a good idea for basically anyone and everything.

I pay more for doll outfits than I do for my own clothing. XD

It's a really nice Sofa, it's well made and the finish is really nice.

Yeah I pay more for doll clothing than my own but somehow my brain can accept that a little better than with furniture. (Probably cause my girl looks so much more stylish than me :p) I’m glad to hear the finish is so good though.

Maybe I’ll finally crack and get some furniture in future when I have more dedicated space for dolls. Will be nice to see what you do with it photowise!

I really want a chair like the one Foo has. I hope they re-release that at some point.

That's what I want, or one of the all leather (vinyl) sofas.

The last one looked nice, but I worried about the color. This one seemed a safe bet, and I prefer the cloth material. I feel like I could display them on it, and it wouldn't do them any harm.

Another shot to show the versitility of the sofa. It easily fits four DDS, and there is enough hip room left that I am sure you could fit 4 DD. I'm not sure about the shoulder fit with DD, but I think you can manage it with a bit of creativity.

 

I need another T-Shirt though. I love Ts on dolls, and I wish Volks would make some more T-shirts themed to various brands. Fate or Vocaloids, and more iM@S and Dollfie themed shirts would be great.

You know Miku would totally wear a T with her image on it. XD

They have done the happis for Miku, which is probably cooler in context, but T -shirts are so versatile to me. 

There used to be an Etsy seller with a pink t-shirt that was printed like a football jersey with "Miku" and "01" on it, but the store is on a "short break" that it's been on for over a year now, so probably gone for good. I was gonna buy the shirt but procrastinated and then it was gone.

Somewhere I've seen a t-shirt with a Miku holding a leek on it, I think, but I don't remember where.

Ugh, yeah. I had planned on placing an order once I had my first doll in hand, but by then the shop had closed.

That's what I was thinking, but I checked before posting that and as it wasn't there I thought I might be wrong. They don't seem to have a lot of the things they used to though.

I've never ordered there. I once planned to but got a very blunt response to a question I had, so they got added to my "nope" list.

I'm beginning to wonder if VolksUSA has forgotten about the Hometown Dolpa Kyoto 16 items.
