EDIT to add non-name-related thoughts: As a Volks collector with a smattering of Azone I suppose, I am worried that adding more doll brands at the equivalent level of emphasis will clutter up every section with irrelevant-to-me things. This is perfectly acceptable if there's a way to filter out the unwanted items, but if there isn't, it's clearly a downgrade. Filtering could simply be forum organization itself, I suppose, or a Search that is capable enough. I'm not against others getting to talk about the brands they want to, just so long as it doesn't get in the way of what this site was about originally!

 

Im using the way ours currently looks now, but maybe have like

I really like how the current forum has a News and Events section, and it wouldn't work well if it got too crowded, but I also don't think it would be an issue if the top doll makers had a combined news and events section.

 

I only have Volks DD/SD and one Obitsu, so I don't really know which makers would qualify other than Volks and SmD.

 

I'll also point out the elephant in the room and add that inviting smart doll fans in also means not starting brand wars with people. That means us folks in the Volks corner are probably going to need to contain our dissatisfaction with some of Danny's antics. A proper response to misinformation spread about a Volks policy to is to simply point out the facts and move on.

 

I also kind of think a thread like "Volks News No. XX" should be open to any subject covered in that issue of Volks news as long as it's doll related. If that means people want to gush about the latest SD doll / outfit release in the relevant Volks News thread I don't really think it should be off topic. I think that's kind of how we do it now anyways, but I think it should be clear to people that they don't have to be uncomfortable about talking about something in Volks News that excites them.

My main concern with lumping dolls together in each board is stuff getting muddled, so I think there should be a clear way to tell at a glance what the topic is related to.Is there any way to get symbols/icons/‘badges’ on topics for people to select? Similar to how on this forum we have the post icons NSFW, FS, WTB etc.

I would propose something like that for DollfieDream, Smartdoll, Obitsu and Other. (Maybe Angelphilia can get its own too?)

 

Otherwise people would have to write it themselves, something like:

‘[Dollfie Dream] September outfit collection’

‘[smart Doll] Question about wigs’

‘[Obitsu] Photostory with my new girls’

 

For topic titles, and maybe that still works, but I can’t imagine everyone remembering to (or bothering to) write it out each time.

Angel Philias are Obitsus, as are Azones (50cm -60cm), Visuadolls, Parabox (45cm-60cm), VMF50s, and a few others.

That being the case it almost sounds like the main on-topic sections are Volks, Smartdoll, and Obitsu.

 

Maybe combine Discussion & Q&A into one section for each of the three brands, and then have a News & Events Section for each brand.

As long as different doll brands are sectioned off I don't have an issue. Averis already confirmed that this is the intention, so including all different anime style dolls regardless of size is fine with me.

My only question to Vinyl darlings would be what about 2D doll or other resin anime style dolls?

I think Smart Doll Cortex will be our one outlire, but will be on-topic because they have an internal frame and can be mixed with vinyl parts. Otherwise I plan to stick to dolls that are similar to the Dollfie Dream line. You could say they are our standard model for what is on topic.

I wouldn't mind an off topic section for anime resin dolls. I hardly see them on DoA and I think they would more popular over here. I just love LUTS' Coco!

 

I have a question about the other Azone's doll lines.

Where would Kikipop and Pure/Picconeemo lines fit in? Would Azone have it's own "off topic" sub form?

I kind of think we should avoid Barbie. I don't see an issue with adult collectors of Barbie, and I think Mattel has done some neat and forward thinking things with her lately that could make for interesting discussion. I think this forum isn't really child safe though, and Barbie would inevitably attract children.

You're right. I should have thought of that. I was thinking of Silver & Gold Label Barbies when I typed that.

Poor Vindolls and Dollces, they're vinyl and deserve more love than off topic dolls categories.

I had to google those, and the Gold & Platinum are clearly listed as intended for the "adult collector."

 

I have to admit the Andy Warhol Platinum release is pretty cool looking.

I think it would be nice to have a corner for those, but I think it could only work if it didn't draw young children in. I think all the Peach Pai photos would be a bit of an issue.

I don’t think we need to worry about making too many categories unless it seems they are necessary (ie if it seems like there will actually be people posting in then). For example smartdoll didn’t start as a subboard here but there was the demand for one with the increase of info about them back when they were new (before then, it was just threads in off topic). If there ends up a demand for stuff like barbies then sure but until then maybe a fashion dolls or 27cm and under section? That would include pure neemos and obitsu11s as well.

I know we aren’t a fansite for those fandoms, but I kind of like the idea of little plush emojis of the character dolls so many of us own. I’ve seen stuff like that for Hello Kitty, but idk about the others.

That structure looks fine and was pretty much what I assumed it would be.
