DollfieDreams Member Acclimatization Thread (new site Q&A)

With the new site move I'm sure many of you have questions and suggestions. Reply here so we can keep it all in one place and easily gather the questions to be answered. 

The site looks amazing! Thank you for all the hard work getting it up and running.

I do have a question: How should we categorize hybrids when creating doll profiles? For example, Val is a DD head on an Obitsu body. Would that be appropriate for the "other" category?

That x near the direct messages is very tempting xD I had to click it to discover what was, and it was an ignore list xD

DDForum looks great!! I’m so happy we could merge users and all the posts! Good work!!

Not sure if this is ok since it's a Q&A but I just wanted to say the new forum is amazing, thank you to everyone that did this! I'm sure it must have been a headache to move everything over and make the site look perfect. 

I'm interested in how that community calendar works. Are we going to be able to add stuff to it or will there be mod/mods in charge of it? I would like us to be able to add doll events to it regardless of country. I noticed theres an events tab, but there doesnt seem to be anything there (not even Dolpa41, which is next month.) It should prove very useful for people who are planning trips to Japan/elsewhere and would like to include an event in their trip if possible.

edit: maybe its just me but I wish our avatars were bigger...I feel like I have to squint to see some of them.

Loving the new look to the forum and it will be fin to have a place for all the vinyl rather than a sub-forum. (Also Dark theme give my eyes life haha!)

I added a hybrid category, but it's mainly up to you. It is "your" doll list. ^^

Thanks! Glad you're liking it so far. Was a ton of work, but I think it was worth it.

It was just me and many late nights. Hehe. I had to move and convert the database twice since I missed some things the first time, but I'm glad it worked out in the end. I'm sure their may be some little quirks with old posts here and there, but we can fix them as we go.

Yeah that. The info post says the size is now 170 x 170 so there can be more detailed pictures, but the displayed size is smaller than before. and there is so much blank space in the box to the left of posts it looks even smaller.

I think I posted about that in the Welcome thread, but basically, for now, you can post events in a thread I put in the Doll Meet-ups & Events thread and I or a mod can add them to the calendar. Other countries should be fine. I didn't add any yet since... well, I didn't have time. XD

I can make the avatars bigger, I went with the smaller display because I was worried people would think they were too big. XD

Wow that's amazing, thank you so much for transferring everything over- I checked back several times a day while you were making the switch (the little notes on the DD page were hilarious lol) and I'm so excited to finally see it. You did a fantastic job. Thank you again!

I'm digging the new look! A message that says you can log in with your old account on the login/register pages would be helpful.

Just a nitpick, but I feel it's redundant having both the "backer" text as member type with the banner ribbon just below it. Maybe just keep the "member" title and use only the banner ribbons to show support statuses?

There is one on the old site as I clicked on that one also but one here would probably help others that have saved the link to this site and don't check the other. 

 

Aslo after searching for the signature editor for a while, I like the interface. Are the images a little big I have atm? They are below the max limit but I didn't want to "spam the forum with them.

Yup! Yup! ^_^ Good call about the titles. Should be fixed now.

As voiced before, the avatars are smaller? But they said they'd be bigger? Also the new banner is a wonderful idea, kind of like Facebook and Twitter, but they're super thin? At least on my laptop, I haven't seen them on the desktop yet. That could be my issue.

 

A thing to note: Uploading images to use as an avatar is a little erm... needs fixing. It will upload my actual image as a much much smaller size, then ask me to drag/crop it where I want to be shown, then it inflated the image again with a lower quality. A lot of my images are larger high quality images I'd like to crop down, but it's making them pixelated by shrinking them before letting me crop. I hope I make sense. 

 

Overall I do need to say I usually am one of those grumps who hates website changes. But this new forum is WONDERFUL. 💕 Keep up the wonderful work. It's truly a community now!

I found cropping the image I had down made that better(my image was over the allowed size at first so I had to make it smaller anyway.  it is odd to have the image so tiny when sizing it on the forum editor. don't know if that's a fixable thing or part of the forums system

It is a thin header, yes. They can be clicked on to get a full view, though.

I'll have to test. It's not something I changed on my end, so it's likely just how the system works.

The site looks great. I am amazed you finished this in just one week.

Is it possible to make it so that the preview images in doll profiles can be centered? It would be nice to use a regular photo, and have the preview not chop the dolls head off.

I tried to tweak it some. Hopefully that's a little better.

That's a big improvement, but if I go into My Dolls or Dollfie Dreams it's still using the old cropping.

I'm curious if the events calendar can also be used to record things such as announced or estimated release dates for dolls and associated items? For example, we know when most lotteries will be, as well as pre-order periods and shipping windows, so a single handy reference would be to-DIE for. 

 

For tentative dates (like 2B &9S Fall 2019) the season can be blocked out and labeled as estimated or some such until the date is definite.

Big congrats to @Averis for putting together this awesome website in such a short amount of time!

Sure there are things needing to be tweaked here and there, but overall I'm thrilled to finally see an updated website for our beautiful vinyl darlings.

Huh. That's not what I'm seeing. They all use the same css and it's set to 20% for height centering. Maybe post a screen of what you're seeing and I can get a better idea.

I suppose it could? I'd have to test how long events look over days.

How do we submit photos to be considered in the header? 

Will it change up to feature pictures reflecting holidays? I know this isn't the most important thing, but I'm hoping that it's something that might be cute to see. 

This is what I see on the root doll profile page.

 

 

This is how it looks under My Dolls. If you aren't see this I am guessing I have a caching issue.
