Volks Super Dollfies

I wonder if they'll do like the official limited edition Disney dolls and time releases to events. Like have Mulan come out next year when the movie drops, and have Ariel when the Little Mermaid remake comes out.

 

Cinderella was unveiled at Dolpa today. Volks haven't made an official tweet yet, but shes coming in Summer, so if shes the same as Rapunzel she'll have a lottery before Dolpa in August. It's a surprise to see a non-preorder doll this early.
She's got really cute eyes!

She is pretty cute, and a good realization of the character. Bet her aftermarket price is nuts, because she's Cinderella.

Can't wait to see what they do with Belle.

I was thinking in terms of Disney franchises, as big an achievement as Star Wars is for Danny, Disney Princess is the bigger coup. The origins of Cinderella as a folk tale may go back as far as 7 BC; these characters are so iconic and timeless it's hard to think of any higher height.

Certainly. Characters like Snow White have a universal appeal that Star Wars will never have.

I felt like Rapunzel didn't quite seem right, too melancholy, but Cinderella feels dead on.

I think it goes deeper than just appeal though, these characters form some our earliest and most abiding memories of storytelling.

Hm, I feel like Cinderella's lipstick might be too dark for me, but everything else looks beautiful!

Whelp just saw Frozen for the first time, and Elsa & Anna officially supplant Belle as my most desired Disney SD colab. Not that Belle wouldn't still be awesome, but Frozen is simply one of the best things I've ever seen. I'd love to see what Volks Doll Design Department would do with the two of them.

Yeah, I bought it last year but only just got around to watching it. Been sick, and needed a distraction. 

You should watch it. 
 

Watching the sequel now, and I would say it’s a worthy successor. 

Elsa has some pretty powerful moments in both films; she’s a really great character. It helps that her VA is one hell of a singer.

I am both anticipating and dreading the Frozen Volks releases, because I am the weird sort of person who feels like they would have to get both Anna and Elsa because they would be lonely without each other. 😓

What I would really like is for them to be sold as a set, maybe as Yo-sd or MSD instead so the price isn't ridiculous, but that probably won't happen. Also it would be cute if they did that thing where they did the same sculpt with different names - Anna in ns, and Elsa in white.

They'll probably do the classic princesses first though. I think they started with Rapunzel because they had already done a one-off version based on her.

Yeah, they would have to be together. They could certainly do young Elsa & Anna as Yo or MSD.

I don't think they look enough alike to be the same sculpt though.

The dubious bit is they technically aren't Disney Princesses, and Volks license seems tied to the Disney Princess franchise. Frozen is so big as it's own thing that Volks would likely have to negotiate separate license with Disney to do them. I hope they do it though, with the new movie out now it seems timely, and I can't believe the thought hasn't occurred to them.

They look pretty similar around the nose and mouth, I think it's mostly the eye shape. Maybe if Elsa also had semi-closed eyes it could work?

And they would have to negotiate the license separately, but maybe that also means if they did get it we could get more than one set of dolls out of it? Like SD Elsa and Anna + younger kid versions + a tiny in an Olaf costume + maybe Kristoff and Hans as well?

I think Elsa's head is a bit larger, and slightly more mature looking. There are probably more similarities than differences though.

The outfits and wigs they could sell with them... XD

I think Kristoff would be cool. I'd probably say they should make the ladies S-bust SD16s, and Kristoff as an SD17.

I saw and and I am so excited!!!

Bit late to the game but trying to get a bit more active on this forum. I got really into using Facebook lately. I spend most of my time in the Dollfie Dream groups and Volks groups. 

On the initial topic, I lost the lottery for Lieselotte but did get a secondhand Best of the Best 15th which was the one I really wanted. I don't have her outfit though, but at least I have the doll now. 

I'd say atm the most noteworthy Volks USA thing going on is probably#SafeAtHomeWithDollfie which I think is rather cute. Anyone going to participate?

I just saw they are doing online lotteries for a couple of on-off models,  which are restricted to VS/VIP members only. ;-; Do you know if there is a way to get this membership outside of Japan? Or are there proxy services could enter? I totally fell in love with one of these dolls.

Unless something changes, I'm not sure they're shipping overseas right now so you may need a proxy regardless...

They will be shipping overseas when Dolpa happens in June, as they’re restarting overseas shipping with DHL May 1st.

But VS/VIP membership requires a Japanese address, and even if you were to get someone living in Japan who was already a member to enter on your behalf I would actually be surprised if there is more than one of each doll. It’s a special lottery that was supposed to take place at Dolpa itself - while I can’t say for sure that there is only one of each they have done these one-off lotteries of past dolls at Dolpas before and there was definitely only one of each, so don’t think of it as a rerelease. If you can find a VS/VIP member in Japan willing to enter for you it’s not impossible but the odds likely won’t be in your favour. It’s certainly worth a try if you do know someone though (who isn’t wanting one themself, anyway).

Would be good to know if are there actually any proxy-services that are known to have this kind of membership? But I suppose the answer is no.

Not sure in which part of my text u are reading that I expect there would be multiples of each model, tho. It's in the nature of these models to be one of a kind, I think. 

Now with the online-lottery I expect the chances to be near 0, anyway, sadly. But it would be still worth a try. Too bad that they don't over smth. like that to their international customers ;-;

That was my fault, cos I thought you were referring to the limited lottery for the other Oath of Silver Coin dolls when I wrote that ;; (Cos I was juuust talking to someone else about them, and they have the lottery pages on the web store, and theres been some interest.) It seemed like some people were thinking those other Oath of Silver Coin dolls were an actual rerelease. Ignore me being dumb but yeah the same applies to the actual one-off models unfortunately.

I was also kinda hoping the one-offs would be open to international lottery this time around but no dice :c

There might be proxies willing to - the only one I actually know is called Japandolldirect (they have a facebook and an instagram) but I've never used them so dont know what their fees are like or if theyre fair. That could be an option? It depends on how much youre willing to pay in terms of fees.

I certainly found it confusing because of Volks putting the logo on them:

and not putting it on the actual rereleases. (Which is probably an oversight since the magazine has it, but still...)

 

I have no experience with them, but I've seen their posts before on instagram; Japan Doll Direct's facebook appears to be the way to contact them:

They did kind of do that at Dolpa 41 too - while they didnt use the actual logo, they did have a limited lottery rerelease (as in one of each) of a number of SDs and DDs they were calling Best Selection. https://www.volks.co.jp/dolpa41/best.html so I didnt find this instance to be as odd. Just confusing.
