Volks Super Dollfies

The Volks website was broken for me about 2 minutes before the lottery start was scheduled, so I'm pretty sure it's already a lottery 😂. I don't think they made too many of the Oath of the Silver Coin boys since they were previously set to only be sold physically at Dolpa, so I expect this to be a bloodbath. I'm hoping to enter for Cecile (after all these years of Cecile existing, they finally got me with how cute and chubby this versions' cheeks are!) but am currently still waiting for them to approve my global membership. 

I got my entry in for Cecile. It’s gonna be a long and painful wait to find out if he’s coming home or not but I’m really happy that a) I’m able to even try b) he wasn’t a djsjsding clickwar. Please smile apon me, Mother SD. I hope I can finally get my first 1/3 resin.

I almost didn’t want to enter when I realised that Volks using DHL now wouldn’t protect me from customs fees the way EMS did, but such is the price of serotonin in these trying times. 😔

Yeeess! I also have the same goal but agreed: she's pricey in that particular size. I saw her for sale on Mandrarake for around $900 a while back.

Happy to report that Cecile will be coming home after all. I flipped out when I saw the winning email because I really didn’t expect it, it seemed like it was a dicey one according to the number of people reporting loss emails. Time for yet another wardrobe, but it’ll be nice to be able to put stuff I’m too scared to put on DDs on him.

Given that the supply/demand ratio for them was definitely less favourable than the DDs, I’m honestly still confused why they weren’t announced as lottery to begin with, the whole ‘maybe preorder but lottery if we get too many orders also there’s no after event for them’ was completely bizarre to me. I don’t think there’s any way they would have had the orders -not- pass the quota.
It was the same way Cinderella was released, but she didn’t end up switching to lottery.

Yeah, having resins has allowed me to buy a lot of outfits that I would never risk the money on if I only had DDs. The other upside is I can get outfits that I know will fit SD, and if they fit DD too, then it’s a bonus.

Thanks, and yeah that’s one thing I’m also happy for. I already have a small handful of volks SD boy stuff I bought for Mel that was kinda baggy on him so it will be good to have someone actually made for those dimensions.

Lately I’ve been wanting to get a SdGr boy to wear all the nice outfits they get that are too big for DD boys as well. The drawback of seeing nice outfits is that it means I end up wanting the appropriate size doll I don’t own yet (that’s one reason I ended up with an Arle and also want more YoSDs), and that’s how they get you.

This is so me. I would never have gotten into BJDs if they didn't have such beautiful clothes! I have resin girls to wear YoSD, SD, and SD16 sized clothes. I don't have any doll to wear mini clothes and of course none of the resin dolls fit the tenshi-no-koromo line, so naturally here I am looking at getting DDs for those sizes. I lost the fight against Volks long, long ago.

I really want a SD16. Definitely going to get one this year, most probably in the VolksUSA FCS this winter. I've been buying SD16 clothes for my DDDy Toobie, so having one of these delicate, elegant creatures actually get to wear them properly and not have to be paranoid about staining is my goal. Count me as another casualty in having to get a doll to fit some clothes.

@lardroom Good for you! SD16s are lovely and have such presence. So many of my SD16 clothes are dark, so I can definitely see how staining would be a concern. I think since it’s Volks most mature line, they tend to use dark and rich colors for the clothes. 

Yes yes yes yes YES. SD16 Kira is coming home. She's so so pretty and special.

Wait...I have always thought stains would be no problem with resin? 😱 

My one and only SDs is currently wearing a body stocking as I'm paranoid but that is no very good protection for stains.

It can happen, but it’s rare. I’ve never had any issue with Volks clothes on my SD. 

@Victoria I meant how when you put SD16 clothes on DDs, there is a staining risk because many of the outfits are dark. Resin certainly can stain but personally I’ve only ever had trouble with black shoes staining resin dolls, and even then it was nothing a magic eraser couldn’t fix.

Even though I've already got Kira, I'm looking at a PS Tan. Just need to look at the available sculpts, but probably nothing new).

If they do amber/ebony skin again I'll be really tempted to get an SD16! 

Kira came today and she was super early. Oh wow. Volks photos don't do her justice and I'm also feeling really insecure about not being able to do her justice with my photography.

Even though he’s on the shorter side of what classified as 1/3 resins, he’s still my first so the weight was a surprise for me despite expecting it. It also became immediately obvious why so many SD sized Volks clothes can be baggy on a DD - obviously I did already know this, but it was still an ‘oooh right’ moment seeing how much chunkier he is compared to them.

I like his default wig and outfit, but am changing it once my Taobao order of stuff arrives.

Tilo’s wig also looks good on him, so he can borrow that from time to time as well.

The SD faceups really are spectacular in person. Obviously I knew this already from my SDCute, but it’s even more striking on a larger doll.

Love seeing everyone’s resin dolls! I currently have a Volks SwD Mimi. I am in the process of updating her outfit, I will have to post pictures soon!

Since I will not get Cecile I'm thinking of snatching at least his outfit somewhere for my boyish Saber as I love it soooooo much. It's the most beautiful set I have ever seek for boys, imho. xD Totally my style. Still wondering if it looks at least decent on a DD-body, tho.

Posting him again because the Taobao stuff arrived and I finalised his look, his name is Cygnus.

I have until the end of the month to order limited hands for him. I’m really glad GL members can do this now because I think people outside Japan and the US (if they used VolksUSA) didn’t used to be able to...? Although, with hands twice the price of DD ones, I have to choose very carefully.

That would be awesome, tysm. ;-; My Saber is on a DDS body but I suppose DD should work better? (I can easily swap the bodies as she looks fine on both of them) It would be good to know if the clothes fit at all. 🥺 

Welp, I was able to resist FCS and the holiday one-offs because after lots of research and waffling I decided that for me it's Saki above all others 😂

I thought I would re-do her faceup since it's a bit damaged, but she's so pretty in person I'll probably hold off for a while. Still figuring out how I want to style her since she's a lot more gentle looking than I expected.

I have a captain cecile, and a bunch of heads( byakuren, school A, DWC2, old ws megu) and sdc Mina.

@Victoria Thanks for waiting! I mainly asked if your Saber was DD or DDS cos I wasn’t sure which release of Saber you had, and also because I thought it might be a bit too baggy on DDS but better on DD and was originally going to try both to check, but...I tried it on Mel (DDS(boy)) today and it works pretty well!

It’s definitely baggy - but I think it’s still in that range where it doesn’t matter that much, especially given the aesthetic...? Weirdly the baggiest part to me were actually the stockings, and because I put them on first I was thinking the rest wasn’t going to work, but it was fine in the end.
There’s a lot of gap at the waist band of the pants - but you can either make them sit lower (which I kind of did here), or use the sash to tighten them like a belt. 

The sleeves do almost swallow his hands, although that happens with Cecile too and the elastic helps a lot. The blouse is probably a little baggier than it should be, but it’s part of the Renaissance kind of look I suppose, so I don’t think it’s bad. 

The shoes fit well too!

Also, without the vest thing. I think the shirt looks a lot looser without the vest on it, but you could maybe pin it back if it really bothered you.

I think it’s really regal set that would look great on a Saber so I hope you can get one!
 

...also I was only planning to quickly try this on him before dressing him in something else but...he looks really cute like this so I’m gonna leave it on him for a while longer.
