Volks Super Dollfies

Good luck, Roxanne! I also entered the lottery for Elizabeth. I'm trying to tell myself we have good odds with her being available at Dolpa and the recent store release and maybe people doing the in-person lottery for the best of girls instead. And the recent news of her getting a USA lottery. I'm trying to be optimistic. I really don't want to enter the USA lottery because the CAD is so weak. 

 

I've been voting for the Disney girls. I really want a Rapunzel and I wish Ariel had made it on the list. I hope if they're on here that means they know they can get the license to sell them again, and possibly a new Disney girl on the horizon. I hope they post the results soon after the Feb 18th closing date. I'm so curious who will win! There's plenty of other girls on this list I would go after in a heartbeat if they re-released too.

Unfortunately I did not win. I'm trying not to be too dissapointed since I knew beforehand chances of winning an SD lottery are low, but I really fell in love with Elizabeth and her secondhand prices are already insane :')

The people scalping like that are just jerks. The prices Volks sets are a fair price for the product, and the scalper just capitalizes on demand.

I felt bad having to pay scalper's price for Mytyl after I failed to win her in the auction.

The only (small) consolation is that I didn't pay that much for her optional cape and birdcage set.

A year on though, and she's exceedingly rare. The vinyl dolls worship her. Do you know what they would do to have actual eyelashes 😂?

Anyone here owning Volks One-Off or FCS models? I got lucky and won the F-100 One-off last November on Volks Jp and I still can't believe it! 

The Pic is already older, I got her an outfit from an artist I ardore and a really fancy wig from a Japanese artist... If someone wants to see I can post an updated picture! 

 

Necro-ing for great justice! Out of curiosity, does anyone know what size wigs fit SDM heads? I've been toying with getting one from FCS (via proxy) when I can, and I would wanna know what wigs fit if I wanna buy one. Eyes same thing probably.... What wigs and eyes I go for will just depend on what character I wanna make I guess.

SDM is usually 7-8 inch wigs, although the eyes really depend on the size of the eyeholes, but 16mm seems to be the average.

Since we’re talking about SDM and it’s been a while, here’s my SDM Oliver I got a year ago, who still doesn’t have his own name.

I’m also really excited about the new SDM standards of Coco/Saki/Chiyo, particularly Saki. They also got special limited white skin versions with outfit sets going on sale tomorrow.

Those ears are a great look, those are an add on right? If so, that was really well chosen.

These come with Oliver! He’s a goat (from the Grimm story ‘the wolf and the seven young goats’ - SD17 Ludo being the wolf). Ludo’s wolf ears are also available as a FCS option (I’m pretty sure they’re the same, anyway?) but Oliver’s goat ears were brand new - I hope they add them too though. They actually kinda remind me of Yshtola’s ears.

Oliver's look less plasticky than Y'shtola's.

I believe that is because the SD ears are resin. Like the ones that came with the Color release of the Icons.

What is the current situation with Full Choice proxies - has Volks taken further steps to ban them?

And how can I find a reliable proxy? I don't live in Japan or North America so there isn't another option for me...

Is it normal for the SD standard models to say "sold out" instead of "awaiting restock" on the international site? I noticed the new SDM Coco says "awaiting restock" while all the larger girls still say "sold out." Surely they can't be discontinued so soon, right?? The old SDM models of Hina, Noa, and Momo all say sold out too, so it's a bit worrying...

They have been around since 2017 after all… but I’m surprised a new batch of SD girls aren’t announced yet. The new SDM girls (Coco/Saki/Chiyo) got limited edition white skin versions with outfits for Dolpa ahead of their standard release, so I wonder if they will do similar for new SD girls at the next winter or spring Dolpa…

I guess my only option is to bite the bullet and buy from Volksusa if I want her, but dang the price is outrageous compared to the international one. I like her a lot, but idk about paying $750 plus shipping for a standard model, I've seen full set Lieselottes and Charlottes on the 2nd hand market for less than that. I'm so surprised they haven't announced any new standard SDs either as well! I really want to see them! Hopefully they'll announce them soon since the new SDMs rolled out recently.

Mel is also sculpt number 83 in FCS so there’s that option too, although I’m not really sure what the best proxy options are these days.

You can always order her through FCS (if you're comfortable with proxies). Her sculpt is SD-F-83 in the full-choice system, and there's plenty of makeup options (the 5 recommended makeup options, order make-up, or buying her blank and having someone else do her faceup) on top of being able to choose skintone and more hands. Current exchange rate places a recommended make-up FCS order around $800 from one proxy (before shipping, but after fees). There's also the slim possibility of her being offered in Volks USA's online full-choice system (I wouldn't bet money on this, though, lol. The heads are still Sato exclusive in Japan the last time I checked.)
I imagine the new standards will roll out soon-- either Winter or Spring Dolpa as Monty said. 
Regardless, I highly recommend Mel. She's gorgeous sculpt and incredibly versatile. 

Oh, I didn't know the FCS proxies cost about the same as ordering from the us shop. I guess it would still be cheaper to buy from Volksusa though because the total plus shipping would be slightly cheaper. I'll have to think it over a lot though, there was another doll I've been watching on the 2nd hand market that's cheaper than those options, but she's a SDGr, which I feel like would be a bit big for me (and I'm not a huge fan of permanent heeled feet).

I can't wait for the Winter or Spring Dolpa, I think I'd like to see the new models before I come to a final decision!

Hey yall! I know Super Dollfies are almost their own subniche within the resin doll hobby, so I'm very curious to hear from owners and fans what you like about them compared to other resin dolls! I've always heard old Volks are fun dolls to get and fix up, so I'm trying to nab a fixer-upper, but I'm too intimated by the prices of newer ones to get a doll I'm unsure how I'll feel about ^^; I know people really like their resin quality? I know the faceups are all hand-done, but I would likely want to paint my own, so it doesn't matter as much to me how they look.

This is what I did with Sumire (my MSD). The process of cleaning and restringing is a lot of fun! I tried doing her face up but I'm not good at drawing anything other than anime, so I left her blank in the end.

What stood out to me, even with my lack of experience, is that the resin parts are thick; a generous 1 - 2 cm layer of resin surrounds the stringing channels. It makes them look and feel very sturdy.

I've heard that other studios create thinner parts, presumably to save on resin costs and for aesthetic/weight/handling reasons.

i'm really excited to see what the new standard sd girls will look like... it seemed to me like hina, momo, and noa were meant to look like little sister versions of nico, mai, and mel, but since the current sdm girls already have sd counterparts, i assume they'll probably drop that motif (?) and make them completely different? i thought the similarities between the standard sd/sdm girls was super cute detail though, hehe..
