How do you take care of the wig?

My new Dollfie Dream Ruri already has frizzly hair with bendy, curly, and tangled strands of hair stuck in her wig.

I've tried washing and blow drying the wig, but it hasn't fixed this issue.

How can I better take care of her wig?

It depends on the condition of the wig; If it's just a few random strands I would honestly just pull them out one by one.

If it's more than just a few random strands, I would wash and condition it with hot water and gently comb it with a wide toothed comb, then leave it on a stand while it's drying. Volks Treatment Mist is great for making hair a little smoother (I recommend spraying one small spritz into your palm, rubbing them together and smoothing it over the hair, starting with the ends and up- do not spray this directly on the wig or doll) and Water Wax is nice for taming sections with flyaways or shaping bangs.

I wouldn't recommend blow-drying the wig; this may be helpful for human hair, but without any tension or pressure it's not going to do a whole lot for synthetic hair (and potentially could make it worse)

If those tips don't help, what I'd try is a little near-boiling water; I microwave a bowl of water until it's just about to boil, then dip the sections of the wig into the water and comb it out with a fine toothed comb from tip-to-root. You don't want to do this on the scalp because it'll form to the wefts underneath and give the 'roots' a weird texture.  This will, however, completely straighten the wig so that little 'flip' in her hair will be gone unless you use near-near boiling water and curl the hair underneath with the palm of your hand while it's cooling down, after you comb it. 

I personally use a flat iron almost exclusively- here's a post I made on Tumblr about my flat ironing methods, but this can be a bit tricky if you have the wrong iron or aren't experienced with using one, so I wouldn't suggest trying it for the first time on a stock wig.

Some tips for handling doll wigs as well;

-If you brush or style it, comb from tip-to-root gently, otherwise you might snag and/or stretch some of the strands which will make them frizzy. A small wig brush would be good for this. 

-Be very gentle around the top, if you snag one of the wefts you'll run into the same problem and potentially damage them as well.

-If you wash the wig, follow those tips and do not detangle the wig until it's saturated with hair conditioner


Along with those tips, if the bangs are sticking up at all I would put a beanie over her head for a while to keep them flat. The toe-end of a sock would do the trick as well.

I swear by a handheld garment steamer for wigs that cannot be straight ironed (like Volks wigs).

Once you apply some steam to the section you need to work on, quickly comb the area (I use a toothbrush) to make the fibers straight. This usually takes a few passes.
You can also use your fingers to smooth the section or strands you want. Keep in mind the steam is very hot so it will be a bit uncomfortable, so be careful not to burn yourself.

To get the style back you'll want to steam the section, curl it or bend it, and then let it cool to room temp and/or run the section under cold water to then set it.
