Thread choice for sewing project?

Recommended Posts

DesertPhantom51

I know there are a lot of crafty people on here, so I thought I'd ask.  I'm looking to sew a few simple things for my doll, and was wondering if, with their susceptibility of staining, if there are thread types or brands that are best avoided, and what precautions I should take?

I don't know of specific thread to avoid, but I usually take a lot of precautions when sewing my own DD clothes. Light colored thread seems to be safe - off white, pale pink, beige, etc. I generally use synthetic/cheap thread since dyed thread would be more likely to transfer color. I've also used transparent/plastic thread in some cases. The best course is to design clothes so that there's a lining or hide seams where thread color doesn't show.

I don't know what section of the world you're in, but I have a friend who swears by Guttermnan threads for the durability. She also avoids the Coats and Clark brand like plague. She sews cosplay and everyday clothing and has the threads snap on her way too many times. As for color transfer, I always wash my clothes after I make them, so I've never run into that. Also, I do tend to use light colored threads, just because I'm paranoid XD

Thanks for the answers, I'm still very much a novice at sewing, so I didn't know what to look for.  Wish me luck!
