New ‘Super Hero’ body for Smart Doll boys!

Today Danny Choo posted on Instagram;

’While I did scale back on Eiji and Crimson, you will be getting more licensed guys starting with the two Sunrise ones. And after my trip to Los Angeles next week, we will start to work on the “Super Hero” guy bodies...’

Oo, super hero bodies! I wonder if the whole body will be different or whether it will incorporate elements of the current boy body...

Super Hero bodies... 🤔

Since there was already a collaboration with One Punch Man for clothing, I wonder if the next licensed characters would be from that. Season 2 is around the corner, too.

I am really looking forward to see these!  I'm guessing it will be released on a licensed guy first.  I am hoping Danny will eventually release this body as a basic option, as being tied to a licensed guy will make it hard to get (sell out fast) if the character is very popular.

He mentioned One Piece.  I could see Zoro on a more muscular body than the current boy body depending on how it's designed.

When I hear "super hero bodies" my mind went to All Might from my hero academia but I'm guessing it'll be a lot less bulky than him hahah!

I was wondering if the name could be a hint as to what character it was designed for.  Are there any other popular anime guys that could be considered super heroes?

I hope this means he will briefing out some new clothes for th smart doll boys. Maybe even a hand pack🤔.

I'm betting this new body will be Cortex.  Why?  He's already stated in the past that if he got any more big licenses, he'd prefer the Cortex to be it because it will be easier to mass produce them and the price point would be lower so more people would buy them.  I might be wrong but it's my gut feeling on it.

 

I hope he does a vinyl version too but with all the talk lately about not producing for the boys often, it makes me think he either won't do this in vinyl or they will be for character dolls only and won't be sold by themselves.  Let's hope I'm wrong.  😉

I didn't even think about the possibility of this being a Cortex body.  Interesting.  I'm thinking that it isn't if he plans to release the super hero body this year.  I don't think the Cortex version boys are finished being designed/prototyped (if he even started on it yet).  He was really busy for a while working on the Cortex girls and they got delayed (and aren't fully released yet).

Cortex would be an interesting development. It'd certainly help make them more accessible, inventory wise. I would really love a vinyl version of things though. W'll have to keep our hopes up XD

I find the idea exciting, but I'm pretty skeptical about the actual results.  I don't want to have to buy a licensed doll just for the body, since they usually sell out fast and cost more.  Especially where I want a Tea boy.  Also, I can't see him actually getting that excited about even more masculine dolls, given all the issues with Eiji, so I feel like standard releases will end up being put off in favor of more girls.  (Seriously, is the Cocoa boy ever coming out?)

As far as the "Super Hero" name goes... I know Danny mentioned being interested in getting Marvel licenses in the past, but I kind of doubt that'd actually happen, just because dollfies are a pretty niche hobby in the US.

I am curious, but I don't want to hold my breath.  There have been many 'up and coming' things for the boys that fell by the wayside.  I still want the cocoa boy, but am disappointed that there hasn't been any recent updates about him, at least, not like the girls get.

I feel that even with the licensing in place, research and development is gonna take at least a year before any production can begin (unless, of course, Danny has been working in secret on the required body for the last year). 

Also, the superhero aesthetic seems to be a far cry from the normal SmD characters.  Will the license holding companies demand more realism in the doll heads, or are they going to want anime style heads?  I would think it would have been more logical to work with anime type heroes.  (Personally, I would happily go bankrupt for a DBZ Future Trunks doll, but that is just me.)

 

Honestly I wouldn't mind it being cortex if it means more of them would be produced. The current boy schedule and amount put up for sale is pretty abysmal

Looking at Danny's recent post about Thundercats and He-man I'm guessing the super hero body could be for a licensed version of one of them...

I'm not sure he's going for the guys with those licenses..... I'm betting he's doing Teela from He-Man and Cheetara from Thundercats.  We already know he prefers the ladies over the guys so that would make the most sense.  But it'd be cool as heck to have a SmD Lion-O with his claw shield and Sword of Omens!

Hmm, maybe.  I'll just hope it's the guys since he's got the action figures of them, haha.

If he secures anything Marvel or DC related he'll be pretty much set for a long time.

I wonder if the term 'Super hero' is a way of calling, a body with abs. 🤔 And doesn't really mean, super heroes specifically.

During the first makings for Eiji he did mention he wanted to make a lean body, and one with abs, like the boys from Free!, LOL. And considering how popular sport animes are becoming, toned bodies are going to be very sought after.

The thoughts I have if he has a Western comic license is what aesthetic he'd choose for the faces. I think it's possible he'd be aiming for a Marvel/DC deal with how excited he was about it in the past, and still, recently. (AND HE WAS IN THE US? The plot thickens!)

He doesn't often give himself credit for it but Danny Choo's muscle manipulation on the male figure is very nice. I mean, Eiji KAI's bigger biceps are A++ (he barely has clothes that are a flattering fit, but man, those arms are so worth it). I hope he utilizes it more in the future. The one thing he's proven thus far is that even though the updates on the boys leaves alot to be desired, besides Spike and the Cocoa Eiji KAI he scraped in favor for a more complimentary face, he has very rarely dropped something regarding them.

 

I don't know if there's anything specifically anime related at the moment that's superhero related outside of BNHA and OPM, and hyper popular enough to get a license deal. I can get my hopes up for Saint Seiya (considering they're getting a Netflix reboot) but that's super out of his general aesthetic, and it's not really popular. A girl can dream though. 😥

Considering his track record with boy license characters, I wish he'd tackle the idea of Genos. Danny's robo-themed boots were quite nice. I'm sure he could do quite a good bit with Genos' body. And the Cortex would finally be able to eliminate the leg rattles of doom that the boys have been plagued with this whole time.

Considering how little focus/effort is put into the regular Smart Doll guys...I don't have any high hopes tbh.

Same but maybe this will change things up? I'm wondering how he's gonna pull off the face sculpt for Western characters lol

I thought that too! And I also thought "Oh man I would cave for All Might. . .", but then realized I'm a weirdo who would prefer to have him in his dorky noodle form. XD

Didn't Danny mention Marvel at some point in the past? With his GSC connections it's possible, and you have to admit that the Superhero body (especially in Cortex, as Billy pointed out) would make a LOT of sense for quite a few of those characters.

Danny has been recently showing Thundercats, DC, and Marvel stuff on his instagram so I wouldn't be surprised if he makes characters from each of those licenses for this body.

Maybe if he cares about these licenses more than his original guy characters they will turn out good.

Danny Choo announced his partnership with Warner Bros on Instagram. DC heroes and heroines are coming out as smartdolls, starting with Supergirl. I have a little mixed feelings about this partnership. I am not a fan of super heroes, but I do recognice how important this collaboration is with Danny. And I am really interested about super hero body for Smartdoll boys. I do have to get one of those.

I wonder If this should be on itse own topic, but I don't wan't to start it, since I can't post links or pictures yet! 😌
