Cortex release schedule

The constant cortex delays really turn me off buying a smartdoll...I really wonder what is causing the delay...😵

I apologize if this is the wrong place to ask, but do any of these dates/updates mention if/when the Final Boss Kits would be released? That's the most intriguing option for me (not only because it's supposedly the cheapest), but I feel like getting any information on the Cortex is really hard!

I'm also curious if there has been any talk of releasing the boy models as Cortex models.

Still anticipating this, but looks like no news besides some people getting some kits ahead of time, right? 

Cortex Mirai will be my first BJD and the constant delays and lack of pricing info make me want to slam my head into a wall... hopefully we get some actual updates soon, I want a FBG kit as soon as they're available

Eventually there will be Cortex boys, and I've seen Cortex kits (photographs) in all three skin tones. Not sure what the delay is about, but i do know Danny Choo has been traveling a lot lately, and there was recently some big week-long holiday in Japan. I'm waiting, too. 

Danny also works for the Japanese government and he's said that work takes priority.  So if he's really busy working with the ministry, smart doll work will get delayed.  He has also said he plans to make smart doll guys.

Agreed, it can be a little frustrating, but all we can really do is wait and hope Deity Danny has some mercy on our pour souls.

I would understand more if he wasn't releasing, like, literally everything else. He's posted all sorts of new stuff and prototypes, while keeping us in the dark about Cortex. A little update/transparency would be nice. 

Yeah that's whats frustrating me, theres all these new clothes and such but until he releases cortex I won't have anything to put said clothes on... so yeah

Same here- I understand that he's busy and that's fine, being a govt official is a big job and whatever. But he's announced two new dolls this week and hasn't updated us on Cortex in over a month, it makes me wonder just what his priorities are, I guess. I still want one to see just how resilient they really are, but the waiting is getting tedious. 

I wish he honestly wouldn't announce things until he had a concrete release date in place but hey. It lets me name the doll groupchat I'm in to this:

So okay, getting a little entertainment out of this. But for real, I just wanna know what they're gonna cost... 😭

I figured I'd toss this out there just because it's the only thing we have to go on right now.

 

I recently acquired the "Ninja Grade" Cortex body setup from Danny.  I built it at a doll meet in June.  I took pics of the process and more pics of when it was built but I have yet to post them here due to lack of time.  But I promise to do that post this weekend.

Anyways, my point is this.  I ordered a couple of smooth busts from him as well as the Cortex "build your own" kit.  On the shipping label, Danny *always* puts down the costs of the items you get as half of retail.  For instance, this time around, each bust cost me 5200 yen.  On the shipping label for customs, he quoted the value at exactly half that, 2600 yen.  I looked at other receipts I have gotten from him and asked a few friends about it and *EVERYONE* said this is what was done for them when shipping to the US.

So what does this mean?  My Cortex "Ninja Grade" kit was put down as having a value of 5000 yen.  So if this was done like all the other items everyone has gotten then that means this kit will be retailing at 10000 yen, or right around $100 USD.  

Maybe I'm wrong in this but all the data points to this being correct.  I hope it is.  This kit had everything ready to be assembled, no sprue to clip parts from, the spine and skeleton were already built and all I had to do was assemble it.  So if he does what he said about having a kit where the buyer builds everything from the ground up ( cutting parts from a sprue and building the skeleton yourself ) then that means that style kit will cost even less due to no one at the store is having to build anything for it..... they would just have to bag it up.

Again, we have no idea if this pricing is correct but I feel it's going to be pretty close for this version of the Cortex.  Of course different versions will cost different amounts.  Mine did NOT come with a head so it was body only.  I just happened to have a blank vinyl head here to put on it for now.  😉

10,000 Yen sounds surprisingly reasonable. I guess a pre-built cortex will then run for between 15,000 and 20,000 depending on the time it takes the staff to assemble one. Definitely a decent leap down from the 38,000 Yen for a vinyl body.

$100 for ninja grade sounds like a DREAM... omg... Even if it was more (like $150) that would still be nice. 

 

So Danny says the reason Cortex is taking a billion years is because he's messing with the molds... as expensive as they are to plate, I think it's ok to just call it good at some point.

I agree.  Nothing is ever perfect and going in search of that kind of thing is just a waste of time IMO. 

 

Another thing about Cortex.... all the people's pics of kits you have been seeing online are Beta Test models.  The above message basically says the same thing.  He has sent kits out in varying grades and asks for feedback on them after they've been assembled.  Going over how mine went together, there were a few small things that made me catch a snag but overall it wasn't too bad.  It took me about 2 hours of on and off fiddling to build mine.  Without distractions it could easily be done in an hour.

 

I'll have that post about my Cortex up this weekend for sure so I hope y'all look forward to it and can get some good info from it.

It would be amazing if the kits cost around $100! I really hope we get more info soon. 

To be honest, while it’s probably unlikely since they barely sell vinyl ones, a cortex boy kit at that price (I’d even take a more expensive one) is the absolute dream.

I'm keeping an eye on cortex, not because I am particularly interested in it but more because I would love a cortex body. I'd love to use black/dark clothing and see how resistant it is to stains.

AGREED. I haven't heard anyone with the beta kits complain about anything egregious? Like there was a Mika whose chest didn't want to hold together I saw but ehhhh that seems really minor to me. Like if the cortex kits are gonna be $100-200 I can live with a wonky chest? That's fixable! Or I have a spare chest piece I could use! 

Danny... Danny please just tell us the price I don't even care when they're coming out anymore just tell us the price range with an actual number ;;___;;

@CaffeinatedCake THE BIGGEST OF MOODS. I just want to know SOMETHING concrete at this point. A release date. A pricetag. SOMETHING.
