The Facebook debacle & other issues

This is so far beyond dolls now.... it's about a man with a big ego, thin skin,  and a cult that will do anything for him.... I'm really worried about what he'll post on his social medias tomorrow....

Yes, bingo. This is primarily a luxury hobby aimed at adults, and I cringe at the thought of a child stumbling across, say, Smartdoll's equivalent to peach pai busts amongst other very not-kid-friendly items. That, and I also noticed that Danny will pair pictures of children with his dolls before he spouts outrageous things, like Monday's description. I just....it's all kinds of uncomfortable.

The more I think about it, the more I'm comfortable with the prospect of the lesbian who singele-handadly killed smartdoll by being concerned about danny's ableism. I don't want to be associated with someone who sees disability as a cool aesthetic to appropriate.

Edit: I'm currently consulting for a toy company and my dream job is designing tech toys. If I ever get to the level of thin skinned-ness that danny is rn I would sure hope that someone smacks me out of it.

Yes, thank you so much for calling Danny out! My disabilities are physically painful, and the prospect of Danny turning that into a doll is just...disgusting. Pain is not a 'cool accessory'.

Don't worry too much about whether he posts or not. If anything I would imagine he is more rattled than you about his biggest fan group closing down and him losing most of his ammo against "haters" as a result. It seems that many from SDL have now joined Smart Doll Friends, and I can only hope that it doesn't become half as controlling and cult-like as SDL.

P. S. Your dream job (and job) are cool. I've always wanted to work in the toy industry but I ended up in education (still enjoyable) as it gives me a more flexible schedule to work with (I foster and help with doggo rescues in my spare time. My doggos make every day worthwhile, even Mondays).

If someone ODs on some sort of substance, stumbles out onto the street and gets hit by a car and dies, the medics are going to list his cause of death as "blunt force trauma via automobile."

If I was the last "troll post" before his group closed down, who is he going to blame?

P.S. I won a contest with the toy company. I'm not employed by them. (just clearing the air for legal reasons lol)

@IgelFullmetal Your an amazing person! You stood up (knowing the consequences) and did something not many peope would do! Also your job sounds really cool I hope you accomplish alot!  

I have many things that made me uncomfortable about his post on about Monday. And to be honest, all his posts lately, has been gossip posts, and whiny posts about ONE OR TWO HATE COMMENTS. 'SO MANY PEOPLE told me not to make this, SO MANY PEOPLE told me not to make that' and you go back to the posts he mentioned, you see almost nothing but love. Sometimes seeing his posts is like, oh geez, what dose of drama did I subscribe for today?

 

I've been following his social media for a while because I always held onto the hope of repurchasing Eiji KAI, and I held onto the hope that he'd improve on the terrible boy body functions, and make more clothes for the NORMAL BODY HE SENDS OUT WITH EIJI. But looking at him now, I know it's a lost cause. He will never fix mistakes anymore. And his happy-happy cult will always be there to try and cover up his mistakes, and herald even the most mediocre sod he could ever say, or produce. I think instead of stressing myself out, I'm going to unsub to both his Instagram, and his Twitter. OTL

 

For those interested in his products, please don't feel disheartened if you've been banned from the Facebook group, there are many places where you can purchase his products both second hand, and first hand. Alot of anime hobbyist websites list almost the entirety of his collection and sometimes, even things that are sold out on the Smart Doll website. Though he's like an ostrich with his head buried in the sands of praise, it doesn't mean that collecting his doll has to stop here. Look for them dolls, hunt for them, you might find them in the most unlikely of places.

I'm a mod on Smart Doll Friends, my friend is the Admin. We definitely do not want our group ending up like Smartdoll lovers! Lol 😊

@freakie-oppa Yes, I too was truly hoping Danny would fix the awful-looking boy body. But, well, I can't say I care anymore. And unfortunately, I find myself viewing both Danny and the dolls with deep disgust because when I look at them, all I see is fake inclusiveness, and his abhorrent words and actions. I'm also tired of him slapping a different faceup on the same sculpt and calling it a completely new doll. I've always thought of that as an incredibly under-handed marketing tactic, 'Fortuitous' aside.

To show that they have eyes everywhere? Or maybe they eventually archived the group when they realized there was no way they could identify all the "haters" and ban them all? I was actually feeling quite creeped out because the ban happened really quickly after I commented here. IgelFullmetal brought her issue here because someone in the group told her that the group was not the place for negative posts, but they ended up banning everyone they could identify in this thread despite the fact that this forum doesn't fall under their jurisdiction, simply because we started discussing her issue here without dogpiling her.

The group seemed really nice when I joined, and a lot kinder to those who asked questions 😊 I just want a group where I can admire dolls without having to walk on eggshells every time I need to voice an opinion.

Soooo, Smart Doll Lovers group knew about this forum... and this thread especially, it seems. Thank the maker "Lynn" is nowhere in my real name and I don't have any social media accounts either. I better be more careful of what I'm posting here about my Smartdoll purchases. I love smartdolls and Smartdoll products and easiest way to buy them is Smartdoll online store. That's the last place I wan't to be banned from.

No, it shouldn't be like that at all! It never occurred to me that I should be wary of what I say here about smartdolls. Since this forum has nothing to with Smartdoll company. 

Maybe I'm overreacting. I don't follow almost at all what he says on social media - I don't have accounts - so I don't really know how much of this feud is really his making, or his "fan club's". And now that Facebook group is gone. Maybe things now take turn for the better. I was just reminded about the time when people did get banned from Smartdoll online store because of something that was going on in that Facebook group. 😧

I don't think they planned to archive it when they banned people.

Judging from the post made by one of the admins, they got fed up with the drama and had intended to hand over the reigns of the group to someone else. But then they decided that they didn't want anyone else to inherit the drama. So that is why they archived it. 

I never approved of banning people from the FB group unless they were being extremely disrespectful or offensive. So it saddens me to know that when people raised valid concerns about Monday's description that they were met with a banhammer

Now, I have been approached by a few people on and off forum about all this.  I won't go into specifics because most of them asked me not to.  But I will say the following things:

 

This forum is NOT a soundboard for SmD company hate.  We are not here to make any assumptions about the owner or how he runs things.  Averis and I believe that he can do whatever he wants with his company and he has every right to.  But that doesn't mean that OUR members can't voice their concerns and issues with said company here.  This is an open forum and we appreciate hearing from both sides of issues.  We will NOT delete any posts voicing opinions and facts about problems they have had with the company and its owner. 

However... we will NOT allow ANY type of behavior like everyone here has seen on the SMD Lovers page in the past.  This is NOT the place for a witch hunt.  This is NOT the place to pick on people, degrade them or vilify them because they have had a legitimate problem with something they paid good money for.  I will not have any of that crap here.  If Averis or I see it start happening, the persons creating it WILL be dealt with accordingly.  This is not a threat nor is it some type of control mechanism.  I've worked hard to keep this forum going and also to make sure it's open and inviting to ALL vinyl doll owners.  I will NOT have it destroyed by a group of people hell bent on making everyone think and do what they do just to be in someone else's good graces.

 

I ask that everyone please keep things here as civil as possible, which we have so far and I thank you all for that! 

 

We all love our dolls... DD, Obitsu, VMF, SmD and all others.  We like sharing with others who love their dolls too.  I'd love to see nothing but love and kittens and rainbows and sunshine here but the reality of this hobby is that it has a diverse base of people who own and buy these dolls.  And not everyone agrees with everyone else.  And that's fine.  No one WANTS everyone to be the same.  As Danny has so often preached himself, diversity is something to be embraced and applauded.  That's why we're here.  To see the diversity of our dolls and hear about how they got like they are.  That means hearing about their diverse owners too.  We're all different, no doubt.  But I think our love of this hobby and for our dolls is the same.  And we need to grab that and run with it. 

 

Thanks to everyone who has messaged me with concerns and with questions.  Averis and I are dedicated to making the forums a safe haven for everyone and a place where we can all speak like adults and converse on the good and the bad without making people feel belittled or bad about it.  Keep up the good work everyone, I certainly appreciate the civility displayed here!

For those people who were members of the Smartdoll Lovers group or are friends of theirs, I was just given info about the ban that seemed to go on in association with the archiving of the page.  Here's the message I received:

 

I heard from Lisa and she let me know that no one was banned after archival. They had to remove people in order to archive. And since the group is hidden, FB wouldn't allow some users to view the group. Wanted to let you know. Will you please pass the info along in Doll Dreaming? I know some people there also thought they had been banned.

 

So there you have it.

I also wanted to say that this thread and this forum are not the place to air personal grievances with Danny or his company.  It's fine to let others know that a product you received wasn't up to snuff ( like the wig and the boot and obvious stains or marks on vinyl ) or anything else relevant to that point. That's what we want. 

But what we don't want or need is people to be using this as a platform to attack the company/Danny or to complain about "Danny wrote *x* on his Instagram or in a product description that offends me."   We're here to discuss issues with products and how he handles things.  We're not here to be a place for things like that.  This is one of the rare spots that people can escape the deluge of politics and social justice issues and I don't think we need or want that here.  I sure don't want it here.

Some may disagree with me but in order to keep things from going south like on Facebook, I'm asking everyone to please leave all that stuff for other places.  I'm not trying to silence anyone or downplay what Danny says in his rants.  I just want this place to remain fair and a safe spot for us all.
