@ebil and @ladyandlion, regarding clothing designers for SmDs what ebil said is exactly what I meant and I agree with the possibility as to why.  The new collectors are not the ones I was talking about, but instead moreso those who once designed for DD and/or other similar sized dolls and now they only make Smart Doll sized items.  It makes me sad, but it is what it is.

I do not have a DD yet so I haven't been following the people who tend to sew clothes specifically for them. It does suck that suddenly they would drop what they were doing for DD and exclusively do Smart Dolls. Like...can't you do both? Is it that difficult?

On a related note, and this is just my opinion and maybe a bit of venting. I remember when DC used to produce and sell really cute looking clothing for Smart Dolls. Relatable, everyday stuff. I really loved these cute puffer jackets (I think one came in orange, another in lavender). I felt like a lot of what was sold were things I could see being pretty versatile. (I've said it before but as much as I love Volks sometimes their clothing can feel a little less grounded in modern fashions and more frilly or idol-based, which isn't necessarily my style especially for DDs and similar dolls.)

But then for some reason he decided he wanted to do this...weird weathered, apocalyptic, military-esque style. Feels like it could only appeal to a certain type of customer. I don't know if he did this because he was going through one of his whims or if it was based on something he couldn't accomplish or continue producing. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the latter. Of course I know that he tends to charge quite a lot for very basic clothing items in general so I don't blame anyone for choosing third party sellers for something just as cute at the fraction of the price. For me it would be a hard sell to even bother with the clothes he offers today if I were to ever buy a Smart Doll that is. And frankly that sucks because there were a few things I could see myself buying to go with the doll I was purchasing before he decided to change things.

Sooooo...acne girl is named Pride. Announced right after June ended.

I feel like there's more meaningful things that could have been done with that name...

(also generic copypasta about corporate lies and societal pressure and being true to yourself and whatever and it's like dude. I don't like my acne because it's freakin itchy and annoying. it has nothing to do with society. not everything is about fighting the system.)

(well there is something with pride and fighting the system that was relevant recently but i guess you can't use a fancy paint mask technique or 3d print to indicate that someone is lgbtq+...aside from just flat out painting rainbows on them...which i would kinda be okay with actually but that's not the point)

Honestly would have liked this, could've been super cute. Why not a rainbow bikini or swimsuit while we're at it? If we're going to pander I at least want some cute stuff that I can use on my totally-not-dollfie-dreams-pls-i-swear-theyre-smd-dont-shadowban-me

July is disability pride month, so you could argue that he's appealing to that crowd since it seems to be his comfort zone, but the idea of comparing acne to, say, MCAS feels wrong to me. I'm not disabled, though, so maybe someone with more perspective would like to chime in here.

Boob and back pimples not personally sexy to him. I'm only half-kidding, but he's admitted before that he doesn't like producing dolls/doll parts that he doesn't personally find sexy (i.e. boy dolls), and most of his "flawed" dolls are only "flawed" in unoffensive ways that don't detract much from his preferred aesthetic (vitiligo, port wine stains, etc). I think it's probably safe to assume that he'll make a bust piece with pimples if enough people complain about it, though.

Child likes very much sexy dolls (I'm sarcastic)  I really don't like the fact that he say that a lots of parents buy Smartdoll for their kids, not teens but children.

And why there aren't parents complaining because their children expensive doll stains easily or a joint broke?

I don't think kids would care much about stains. But if they broke, he'd probably handle it quietly without much fuss (and find a way to blame "entitled people" for any financial loss 🤗)

I'm also extremely doubtful that parents are purchasing SmDs for their young children with any kind of regularity. I'm sure there are some, but I would hesitate to say that they even hold a candle to his adult collectors. It's far more likely that the children photographed with Smart Dolls are kids of adult collectors who purchase the dolls for themselves, but will share the experience of the dolls with their children under supervision.

quite the price gulf indeed between a $600.00USD large-scaled high-end enthusiast's doll and, say, the average $8.00/15.00 Barbie...

My mom is a doll collector (hence me being one). She did not buy me a doll over $200 until I was in high school. . . And she did not buy me many. When she bought herself a nice doll I could "play" with some of them, but only under her supervision. Even the "nice dolls" (still under $200) she bought me as an elementary kid were on a high shelf in my room that I could not reach. Lol. I broke one of her dolls when I was young and she did not make the same mistake twice.

Perfect!  He took away those horrible nipples (the mere sight of which would certainly scar a person for life!), and now something has to fill the void.  Just be careful not to put a big zit too close to the middle, lest some unfortunate soul mistake Danny's virtue bump for the devil's playground.

I mean, the boring answer is it's probably harder to make paint masks for custom breasts. He did say they were using some kind of multi-layer mask to get the effect on the face.

Inflation my dudes, some of the Barbies are a whole $25 now! with mermaid hair!!

but because i like sticking to similar sized thing - quite the jump between 600$ doll that's gonna take absurd timing & follow-up hoop-jumpin, and a 150$ AmericanGirl doll that would come with storybook and accessories and be easier to fix if need be (they have entire salon/cafes for these things!!)

Anyway, none of us would be out here laughing at him, if he'd just fess up its basically his kink to yank chains of his customers.
He doesn't wanna make other body types? Yeah whtever, making new molds is expensive we get it. look at how long it took Volks to even attempt chubby thighs on an MDD.....
It's the different paint jobs under guise of woke? Ain't nobody falling for it! Ya wanna come off as at least a bit more genuine? offer those as a custom one-shot order option, while still offering regular "healthy" (generic? default? a correct adjective is hard to grasp here) face-ups

PS: .....hey, does anyone remember when he was trying to market to a certain area of Asia and SmD was promoting hijabi girls? .... was that just no longer sexy or did they see thru him too fast? My brain suddenly couldn't remember if that was even real

I'd wanted an American Girl doll since I was in elementary school but was only just able to buy my only one last year. Price was too steep for my parents, so I can't even imagine why parents would want to pay that much money for a doll that isn't easily repaired with replacement parts etc.

The kids featured on CJ's website seem a bit young for Smart Dolls. I don't understand why DC insists on using them in his marketing when CLEARLY his primary customer base are of the adult "otaku" persuasion? It's incredibly awkward and doesn't make much sense to me at all, especially when there is nothing child friendly about the site (honestly not adult friendly either with the amount of word vomit and disclaimers everywhere.) Either way it's mainly the insincerity and virtue signaling that irks me about this.

I definitely remember hijabs and he may still be selling them but I have no idea if it was a marketing thing. (As far as being sexy, there are those who find anything sexy and kinky regardless of how modest it is, and sometimes because of how modest it is.) Quite honestly Smart Doll as a brand simply feels like his personal playground rather than an actual normal business. (Just the other day I saw a photo of him and Milia Jovovich included on a sales page for a Smart Doll jacket....because reasons, I guess.) He's always coming up with new ideas, he definitely teases the customers by showing those ideas on IG and they ultimately never see the light of day (some are the exception.) Either that or they wind up in the Chaos bin. "Here...pay for all of the ideas that I suddenly gave up on!"

Or  they are being given dolls for free to promote/advertise for him, and thus "pressuring" other parents to splurge
There's an insta that pops up quite often of a kid and his(or his moms?) Smartdoll. The whole page is a typical "my family" album, but a smartdoll is featured in almost every picture. It just screams advertisement. So I don't doubt they are getting free stuff or dolls.
So buy one, take lots of pictures with your kid and you'll get some expensive stuff for free later on? So if you are a doll collector and a parent who wants free dolls, just go "I'm buying one for my kid!" and there's the skewed data.

That's my train of thought. I wanted an American Girl so badly growing up and not even my grandma, who is infamous for frivolous, inappropriate spending, would buy me one. I can't imagine any reasonable family being willing to drop $4-$600 on a high-end collector's toy for their very young children. I'd even be hesitant with something in the $1-$200 range, depending on the age and temperament of the child.

He must have heard you @ladyandlion. I pulled up the site today for kicks and giggles, and low and behold hijabs are back and listed under new stuff. I really am starting to believe he actively reads this thread...
