Galvatim Posted January 3, 2012 The US anime market just took another big hit! Bandai Entertainment will no longer license or release any new titles, starting in February! Turn A Gundam and Gosick are canceled... http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/feature/bandai_downsizing_ken_iyadomi_interview I know Bandai has had their issues in the past, but I, for one, will miss them. I'm not going to go off on some anti-fansub tangent. I've watched fansubs too. On the other hand, as soon as Railgun, Index and Shana season II are available on DVD/BD in the States, I'm buying them! I love owning the physical disc, and I like a good artbox for my DVDs too! So it really sucks too see the industry falling apart like this... (i recently found out PS Vita games will come on little cards in addition to downloads! The Figma combo packs can continue!)
Nightmare Tea Posted January 3, 2012 I read about this earlier. Honestly though it doesn't upset me much. I don't have many Bandai titles besides Haruhi, and Haruhi does so well that another company will snatch it up. The only other thing I would be looking forward to is the K-on movie, but I don't know if that would happen anyways.
baldylox Posted January 4, 2012 Well, I can't say as this will affect me too much as I didn't have anything I wanted coming from Bandai recently. But it still sucks to see a big name like them cease with aquisitions and distribution of new titles. It totally sucks really. If more companies follow suit and continue to hold off on releases, I fear I'll never get my Viz release of the final chapters of Inuyasha. I also prefer having a disc and case for it to see on my shelves. I think thats due to my deep seated collecting nature tho.... I've always collected SOMETHING and I enjoy displaying things almost as much as owning them. So I know how you feel there Galvatim. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.

Bandai has been a mere shell of it's former self for the last couple years... It's almost guaranteed that Funimation or Sentai will pick up Haruhi, Gundam, and Cowboy Bebop. And someone better pick up K-on!'s second season and movie. Well, I can't say as this will affect me too much as I didn't have anything I wanted coming from Bandai recently. I think Viz is still doing pretty good, at least on their manga side, so no worries there. Besides, Japan could always pump out a $400 BD boxset with English subs... (I like Fate/Zero, but really? ) Bandai's LE releases had some of the best and most creative artboxes and extras out there! If only they hadn't done those silly Lucky Star t-shirts... I bought those box sets with the t-shirts ; ; I'm kind of a sucker in the first place for special editions. I'll admit to downloading the shows to watch them, but I'll also buy them when they get licensed and released. Now with Bandai closing shop, there aren't that many companies left. I'd actually like to see new ones spring up in their place to keep the releases coming.
SakuraSylph Posted January 4, 2012 The interesting thing to me was that this closure was not related to the company going bankrupt, a la ADV or others that have come before. In this case Bandai Ent was still chugging along, but the suits at the parent company in Japan decided to pull the plug on them. SakuraSylph

I'm a total sucker for special editions, I went so far as to buy the Nanoha LE PSP game... I could've bought a third PSP for the price of that game... Well, Aniplex USA and NISA are both pretty new. And we are getting direct imports of Blu-Ray releases from Aniplex of Japan and Bandai Visual. They all seem to be focused on making premium version releases too. Which makes sense, I know I want a high quality release most of the time.
