baldylox Posted January 4, 2012 As most of you know, I got Rei the Volks "Reading in the Sun" outfit for Xmas. She had wanted it since the first time she saw it advertised and I was pretty sure it would look good on her. So I made arrangements and was lucky enuff to get it for her thru Kerbey Lane. As soon as she got this as a present, she started to bug me about getting pictures taken. I knew she liked it but she was really into showing it off for me. So I had to oblige her and do some nice photos of her outside. I also used my new camera lens that my parents got for me for Xmas. It goes on my Nikon D60 and it's a Sigma 70mm-300mm telephoto lens with macro function. It's vastly different from the regular kit lens I've been using up till now. I had some real fun playing with it and I think that shows in these pics. No story here, just Rei showing off her new outfit and me having some fun with the camera and with her. What's hilarious is that Rei is so literal, she actually decided to DO what the name of the outfit suggests.... go and read in the sun. She had me set up some of the wicker furniture my Mom got a local thrift stores since she thought it looked like patio furniture. Of course, you can't enjoy reading without snacks and some coffee! Rei has a very 60's feel with these cat eye glasses. She seems to like them but I don't think they're quite her style. Time for the glasses to come off... One thing I noticed with this lens is that I can totally blur the backgrounds very easily! Now, I decided to use the Macro function of the lens. It has a switch on the side so that you must use the Macro setting ONLY with 200mm-300mm. That meant that for these two shots, I had to be 8 or more feet away! I am sooo not used to that! I'm used to being right on top of something to do macro shots. But this thing totally rocks! The details it gets are amazing. Rei decides to go over to the back steps and do some poses there. I thought it would be cool to see Rei with some different textures for backgrounds. The brick and grate seem VERY rough and jagged compared to her soft colors and look. Back over on the stairs, I try for a "different" angle... Seems Rei busted me! No low angles for Papa... I really liked the lines of the bricks here. They draw your eyes away from Rei but then you want to look back at her because of her bright colors. Rei and I really do like this outfit and she seemed super happy with the photos. I hope you all enjoy them as well! Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.

I agree that she reallys looks great in this! I wasn't sure how well it would work but I'm glad I got it. I really hadn't tried the wicker furniture out in pics yet but now that I see how nice they look outside, Spring Garden Party pics will be a must! milkytea Posted January 4, 2012 Rei looks lovely in this outfit. I think the gray tones of the dress really make her hair and eyes seem particularly vibrant.

And I think you're right about the tones in the dress making her hair and eyes really pop. I just love the touch of pink the there is in the dress, it brings out her blush. I also love Rei's fierce red eyes! And you new camera is quite amazing as well, I still need to find a good one that is in the $200- range. Heh, I didn't think of that before but you're right! Her blush does really show better due to the pinks! Good eye! Thanks about the camera lens. I still have much to learn on it but I'm sure with more practice I'll do better. You should be able to get a decent digital camera for about $200. But I don't think you'll find anything with changeable lenses in that range. Still, some nice point and shoots can be had for that. Maybe try some used ones out to see what price ranges those are? I got my camera used for a really good price. The outfit fits her to a tee! Lovely pictures!!!! ^_^ Thank you very much!
