Lovely pics! I have a general question about bystanders. Is it still mandated to wear a mask in JP, or are people still scared of covid or is it just a cultural thing where everyone still does or?

It’s not mandated (and I don’t think it ever was, it was just “strongly encouraged”), but people wore masks even before the pandemic so there was never an aversion to them here.

Also, a lot of Japanese people are obsessive about not getting sick (whether because they care about their health, because they don’t want to miss work or because getting covid in the first place transformed you into a social pariah overnight) so they willingly wore them, and social pressure did its thing to strong arm any dissenters into line.

The government is actually trying to get people to stop wearing them, but most places won’t provide service without one, so the practice lives on.

Bit by bit, Christmas decorations are popping up around the city, so I headed out to take some pictures for the forum slider. - This time with Saki as the model.

Lovely bokeh. My Canon EF-S 60mm macro lens has stupendous bokeh but I find it's a little tricky for doll photography compared to my legendary EF-S 17-55mm zoom.

Actually I mostly use my smartphone for interior shots - it's just so much easier to move the camera around.

I'd love to visit Tokyo again... Maybe 2023 will be the year it happens. Getting a Dream Choice made would be a dream come true, and I'd also love to visit the Azone store.

I must share some of my photos (and videos) of Japan some time. I have just realised I was handed a freebie Ikki Tousen shopping bag back in 2008... coincidentally Towa has two DDdy outfits from that show.

Do you get comments from passers by while taking photos of dolls? I guess it's much less of an unusual sight than it is when I take my girls out in the UK. I do remember going to Japan during hanami and Shinjuku park was filled with guys with SLRs.

I used my 50mm f/1.8 for the above shots. As I'm on APSC too, that should feel quite similar to your macro. It's a lovely lens for doll portraits, but with the limited field of view, you have to stand quite far back if you want to capture the whole doll. - So indoors, I also prefer a shorter focal length or zoom lens.

People here tend to mind their own business, so you usually wont get any comments - but you will still get a lot of curious looks.

While indeed, people running around with SLRs is far more common in Japan than in Europe, somebody taking doll photos outdoors is still a VERY unusual sight in Tokyo. Most Japanese are very self-conscious according to the principle "If I'm the only one doing this, I must be the odd one out." and will only publicly indulge in their hobby among peers, such as at a convention or a gathering.

However, that seems to slowly come around (maybe because of the pandemic?), as I see an increasing amount of people taking pictures of character keychains or plushies outdoors.

@Tierparkzone Saki and Kyrie are magical against such bright displays! I love how natural you get them to lean, and the way you pose their feet when standing. It gives them so much personality. There's also some clever shape and colour play here, with Saki against those larger, star-shaped lights in her UK flag shirt, and Kyrie's monochrome palette in front of the flower display.

A while ago, I ordered a lingerie set from Orione. It's a really great fit for Mash, so I couldn't help but take a few photos. - Enjoy:

That is a beautiful lingerie set!  She looks great in it!  Very nice photos too, I like the colored ones at the end but the others show off the details and color of the lingerie really well.   

You got some great shots in there, and you're right, that set matches Mash really well! 

I used the big camera to take pictures of the haul from this weekend's I-Doll (convention), so they're of a quality that's worth posting here. Didn't have time patience to set up a proper photoshoot though, so excuse the messy background.

 

With the pandemic restrictions slowly being lifted, we're seeing international sellers coming back. I was particularly happy to see TTYA stopping by again and bought lots of stuff from them.

Completely new wardrobe for Chitose,

cargo pants for Saki,

more of those cool socks for Kizuna

and again for Saki some socks that match one of her dresses.

Speaking of international sellers, Cotin Doll were there as well. While they didn't bring any wigs that I was looking for, they had this garter set that I had been eyeing for a while now.

Then, I got these earrings from Oshareyoiko-do.

 

Finally, I thought: "This time, my wallet is safe from TcDoll." - But no. They had to knock it out of the park with this new release:

 

Bonus (no new stuff - but close by to take a photo of): Erina fooling around.

The lady who did all the nails for my Sailor Moon girls a had a booth there. She works under the name petitglacenails, did you by any chance get to see her work?

Were you allowed to take pictures of the venue? I'd love to see photos of what it was like to be there in person.

It seems like she was only there on Sunday, while I went on Saturday. I did see quite a few other dolls with cute manicure, though.

General photos of the venue are not allowed. However, upon inquiry, you are often allowed by the dealers to photograph their dolls on display. - It's a stupid regulation, but that's how Japan rolls sometimes.

We usually check out my convention photos in the Zoom meetup. 😉

Not only are your girls just amazing and gorgeous, your taste in clothing for them is too!  They all look sooooooo good!  Your photos are really great too, they show off your ladies extremely well and their new clothing too.  You got some real winners in this haul!  Big congrats to you and your girls!

While the stockings and those rad, rad earrings are my personal favorites, I have to wonder whether the 'totally not copyrighted, no sir'  bikinis will make an appearance in the Tales someday. 🤔 Secondary congratulations on an impressive haul- it was larger than I realized!

Saki looks so good in red, it's true. Then again, I may be biased. Also loving Erina's attitude here. I've said it before, but you have a wonderful skill for natural posing, and she looks perfectly in motion. My Chito, Bex, wants to steal her rainbow socks. We love her entire style.

These were a lucky find at a random seller at a convention. - Long before I actually got Erina, but when I already had a concept for her in mind. Since then I've only seen the seller one more time. But if you want, I can keep an eye open and get a pair for your Bex if I come across them again.

 

Also thanks for the compliments @PolitelyNefarious and @baldylox. My girls really appreciate them.

I'm still chewing through a substantial backlog of (not necessarily doll related) photos. Once I'm done with that, I should be able to share pictures a bit more regularly again.

It looks like Ellie has had a great day out.

There only appears to be a single cherry tree in our town, which is a real shame.

We finally have some good weather, so I think Rin, Uzuki and Asuna will be venturing out sometime.

I mostly visited Japan in October (which was warm and rain free). I did visit one time in April and the Sakura displays were amazing. I always remember walking through a mega-hanami party in Yoyogi Park. The entire park smelled very strongly of alcohol (mostly Chu-hi I reckon). I did get some great photos of the blossoms, although it's a shame I didn't have any of my DD at that time.

Your girls are beautiful! I love the photos with the Christmas decorations, the bokeh effect turned out super pretty.
