Lucy's Rei Ayanami Cosplay

I picked up the complete outfit from Volks' Rei Ayanami transfer student version on Mandarake.  I'm planning to take Lucy to a con next month, dressed as Rei.  Natsuki will probably come along, as Asuka.

The tie is an actual tie, no clips or snaps like modern Volks.  I removed the doll's head to slip it on. The shirt has actual functioning buttons, and the vest doesn't snap up the back, I slipped on before reassembling the doll.  The outfit included panties, and a bra, as well.  Volks has changed their outfits quite a bit in the last few years. 

Mimicking a figure...  Right character, wrong outfit.  

The 15 year old glue on the shoes has not held up.  Probably fixable, but certainly annoying.  The shoes were a major part of why I bought this outfit, Rei has unique shoes.  

The bag is very nice.  I'm sure it could be opened, but I don't think I'll risk it.  

I think Lucy pulls off a decent Rei cosplay.  

I got those old DDI slender hands for gloves, too.  I'll test those out with the Sailor Mars gloves at some point.  

Awww!  She looks so nice as Rei!  She's got the soft features to pull it off.  I love that outfit, you're lucky you found it without having to buy the entire doll, they rarely come up separately. 

 

Those shoes can be fixed!  Just get some "Shoe Goo" and put it in there, that will hold them for sure, I've used it on real shoes as well as doll shoes to good effect.  And you're right, the older Volks outfits were made quite differently than the newer ones.  I prefer the older ones, they seem to fit better and hold up longer and they don't cheap out on latches and hooks as much.

Thanks, Billy!  I was eyeing up a full set Swimsuit Rei, too...  But then I'd need to get the official Asuka.  I agree, this is a great outfit, I'm glad I was able to snag it.  

 

I figured I could fix the shoes, it was just disappointing that the glue failed the first time they got put on.

Ah, I see I wasn't the only one eyeing that Rei on Mandarake! Unfortunately, my floating head needs a body and face up before I can get any other doll related things...

 

Lucy looks really adorable, the perfect little Rei cosplayer! A bit of bad luck with the shoes there, but at least they can be repaired and aren't totally destroyed.

Lucy makes a really adorable Rei, you can definitely get those shoes fixed up no trouble! nice outfit grab!

Ah, she looks perfect. Evangelion was one of my first animes so I’ve a bit of a soft spot for Rei. Your girl looks amazing in her cosplay! I’d love to see pics from the con!

Thanks, Nemu!   Eva was one of my gateway animes, too.  While I do like Rei, Asuka is my fav.  I'm planning to take Natsuki in Asuka cosplay along with Lucy as Rei.  I'll be sure to get lots of pics.

Please do!! I really liked Asuka a lot by the end. She really grew on me and now I adore her too. I can’t wait to see your photos! (If you can, You should take one where they’re yelling “Get in the robot, Shinji!” Cause that was my favorite Eva joke back in the day. Haha.)
