Volks News 84

Volks page on the guitar is up; indeed it is 9800 yen and as I speculated, no longer comes with the leather (vinyl) case that it had before. I think that's a good tradeoff for the lower price. Still expensive, but I'll at least consider it at 9800, at 12800 I wouldn't.

The name of the outfits is "Pure Blue Off Shoulder Style" so, presumably it's actually blue.

Yeah, they'll show up on Volks USA, probably a bit later than Volks Japan.

Whelp, now I really want Cozy Casual Style (Peach) and Marine☆Tricolor / Cool. I'm not bothering with the International site though, so I'll try my luck at the US lottery. Quick question for people who have done that before (as I haven't) but if you win something, can you add more to your cart or do you have to pay separate shipping for each item? Asking in case I win both items and if I want another non-lottery item from the US store.

You can definitely add multiple lottery items to your cart, unless they specifically say otherwise.

You can't add non-lottery items to your lottery order, however.  You can enter for multiple items, and what you win in the lottery is what you can buy. 

The only circumstance I know where you had to place items on separate orders was with the option hands and feet for Lady Oscar.

Along with the regular hands and feet that had a ship date of late spring they also offered hands that had been airbrushed with a special blushing. Those have a ship date of autumn, so they had to be ordered separately.

I don't believe standard lottery outfits would have that kind of restriction, but lottery dolls certainly can due to differing ship dates.

It doesn’t appear to be in the July collection, so most likely it will be available at the Dolpa and the after event. Probably mid to late August for the after event.

Home Town Dolpa Nagoya 7 is August 4th, but there's no info on the after event yet.

Not sure if this was mentioned earlier, but the Volks USA free shipping campaign for Volks News 84 is going on now, and lasts until July 15th.

I'm wondering if we will get an online version this time. If I recall, that wouldn't be until next Monday anyway; however, unless Volks just moved them with their various website reorganization, the old issues are gone as well. While they haven't left them up forever, they were keeping at least one or two issues back, and my saved links for Volks News 83 no longer work.

I have 2B on pre-order. I'll have 2B wear the Abyss Black and I'll pair her with the above girl.

Now I said "at least one Abyss Black outfit". I'm thinking about buying the SDB version as well. While I foolishly didn't pre-order 9S, I'm now thinking I should look toward acquiring him at some point. I imagine I'll have a few options to buy him if not directly from Volks. Assuming I do take the plunge, I want to have him in a group with 2B and the above girl. (In case I haven't made it obvious by now, the above girl is my custom A2.) I'll have 9S wear the SDB version of the Black Abyss outfit. Even if I don't end up buying 9S for myself, I would still recommend the Deep Blue / Black Abyss outfits to other people.

I didn't get this right at the time. The SDB outfit and one of the mini outfits are completely new styles, and replace two of the Deep Blue that weren't updated for this new set. Here's the page on the Deep Blue outfits: https://www.volks.co.jp/htd_osaka9/sumika_dc/

What I was thinking of was the "Stylish" one which was for SD13B、SDGrB、SD16、and DD. That one is still there in the Abyss Black line but no longer claims to fit DD. The SDB one, which fits DD/DDS/DDSB/DDB, replaces the Deep Blue Smart set which had the short pants. Same happened with the mini one; those short pants were perhaps not popular as I know those two outfits were the ones Volks still had available for sale the longest.

Edit: Someday I gotta do better pictures, but here's a picture of my Miku wearing the Deep Blue Smart set that I took a while ago when I was doing eye tests. While this one doesn't have a counterpart in the new Abyss Black series, maybe it still gives an idea what these outfits look like on DD; she's not wearing the tie and belt because I was just testing things and was lazy:

My Volks News #84 arrived today. I am not sure how this got cut off on the scans, but the Abyss Black Military outfits are a Best of the Best release, as are the lacy women's wear sets on the following pages. On the women's wear you can just see it at the top of the scans.

That's very interesting then as it makes it clear Volks used the voting data, but not as the only measure of what to rerelease, and didn't just stick to the idea of exact rereleases. The obvious change is blue became black here, but there's more to it than that. As I was talking about above, they replaced two outfits with different styles, and I later noticed another difference. The style with the skirt has had several changes; the Deep Blue version had a white underskirt that extended beyond the hem, and also a pannier to make it stand away from the doll. This new version doesn't have those things, and may also have been made smaller in diameter to accomodate those changes.

Looking back to the 15th anniversary rereleases, while I don't believe they changed outfits like this, they did also not rerelease entire sets that were voted on together. Lady Thief/Archer/Wizard got enough votes for rerelease, but only Lady Wizard and Lady Archer were actually rereleased. Those were changed slightly as well, as the rerelease versions no longer fit DDdy and had a set of hooks/loops removed from the corsets and their size adjusted.

I believe it's very likely that Volks considered not just the votes, but also the sales of each outfit when they were originally released. While we could only vote for a complete group of outfits that were related together, it's not unreasonable to assume those votes would likely be for the ones that sold best originally.

One of the LPC rereleases earlier this year was only part of a set as well and also had its color changed; I don't remember which and am too lazy to find it again, but I posted about it here (well on the old forum) at the time.

So in outfits Volks is definitely rereleasing more than one from various voting categories. For Designers Collection there has been both Azurite Blue and Deep Blue now. Azurite Blue got no changes, but Deep Blue became Abyss Black.

Hey, I won for once. I don't think I did every day as there were various things I wanted rereleased, but I did vote for Deep Blue a lot.

I went through all the Volks events starting December 2018 to find all the Best rereleases they've done so far. Maybe this isn't the place to put them but here goes.

As they're already doing three Designers Collection sets, it's clear there could be multiple releases per category but the above is how the votes were done, and there should presumably be at least one thing from each.

On the Designers Collection rereleases, Twilight Dream etc. is interesting, because they appear to be significantly changed from their original versions. From the Designers Collection voting page as far as I can match anything, those must be choice #2, "SD Owners Appreciation Fair in Tokyo 2009."

I don't think we are getting online Volks News; based on past issues it should be up now. I can't find any reference to it on the Volks website, and as I posted earlier my links for the last issue no longer work either.

@cfx Online volks news goes up exactly two weeks after the physical version ships (usually a Monday unless it’s a public holiday, so the Monday after the Monday after, which is tomorrow.) It’s on schedule.

In the past, I've been able to just change it to the right number and days before while the pages aren't up, I'd at least get a blank page instead of a page not found error.

So if we are still getting it, some things have changed; they're not keeping back issues at all, or it has moved to a different server or URL. I can't find any links to them on the main Volks website, but I don't remember what page(s) they were on before.

They did let people vote for three items, so maybe with some collections there were several items that got a similar number of votes.

They might also be releasing several things from categories that are both large and which were popular in the voting.

I was thinking that. I know I made a point to try to vote every day in categories like Designers Collection, while I didn't vote at all in LPC Pink or White Rose since they don't really have things I like in them. Probably others did similar, so certain categories likely did get more votes than others.

Anyway, there's enough categories left that they haven't released in yet that this will probably continue through most of 2020
