animegirlentheusiast Posted September 21, 2019 Hello! I just recently received a DD-1 body second hand from someone, however the body (to my dismay) was not strung. I've never owned a BJD before, but I think I understand the hang of it? I'm guessing you tie the elastic to the connecting pieces in the elbows and ankles and loop it back up to the head? I would greatly appreciate any help that can be offered!
asianed Posted September 29, 2019 With the help of @baldylox, I was able to pull at the DD1 body to see how it was put together. First things first, this is completely different from any other strung resin doll I've worked with. Based on what I can see at pulling on the pieces of the body, you'll need two pieces of elastic: one for the arms, one for the legs. I've drawn how the elastic is laid out with the example I have. Arms: Take one length of elastic, fold it in half, and tie a knot at the fold. This will be where the S-Hook goes to hold the head in place. Thread the two loose ends through the neck and look for a way to pull each loose end through the arm holes. Once through, you'll need to pull them through the upper arm piece and tie it to the frame for the elbow/lower arm. Once that's done, you should be able to pop the elbow joint into the upper arm. Repeat on the other side. If you need more tension on the arms, pull up on the knot you tied from the neck and tie another one. Legs: This is where things get weird. The upper torso is held to the lower body by the elastic holding on to the legs. Again, start with a piece of elastic and fold it in half. Then thread the loose ends through the loop and wrap it around the nub in the upper torso. The loose ends of this piece will go through the body and each one will hold a leg. I couldn't get the feet pieces off on this body, but I would suspect it's similar to the elbow joints where the elastic is just tied to a skeleton piece. The bottom might be trickier to get the tension correct, as you'll need to make adjustments using the ends attached to the feet. Hopefully this helps a bit, good luck!
