Panda_Dolliess Posted September 23, 2019 So, earlier this month, Google settles a $170(USD) million lawsuit with the FTC for collecting advertisement data from children without their parents' consent. About $34million will go to New York due to YouTube violating the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The main reason why I think that might possibly be a concern is because YouTube's official blog stated that "we will treat data from anyone watching children’s content on YouTube as coming from a child, regardless of the age of the user. This means that we will limit data collection and use on videos made for kids only to what is needed to support the operation of the service". YouTube said certain features such a video notification and comments may be turned off on children's videos as well. Additionally, YouTube stated that "In order to identify content made for kids, creators will be required to tell us when their content falls in this category, and we’ll also use machine learning to find videos that clearly target young audiences, for example those that have an emphasis on kids characters, themes, toys, or games." The toys part is concerning because Dollfie Dreams are dolls which are technically toys. Though, I personally don't view my Dollfie as a toy. Not to mention that toys are meant for children and I wouldn't let a child touch my Dollfie with a ten foot pole. The new rules for YouTube are essential cutting off personalized ad revenue for channels that have content that YouTube deems is for children. Personalized ads are the largest source of ad revenue made on YouTube and these new rules are going to devastate some channels financially. I also feel like this will definitely discourage some people from making certain videos that involve toy-like items. I can't find the direct quote, but YouTube will be using AI and machine learning to flag particular videos and channels. If anyone payed attention during several of the YouTube Ad-mageddons, machines are low key stupid and often flagged videos that they weren't supposed to. As I am sitting here typing this, there are is an entire list of possible channels and topics that may possibly get hit! The changes won't roll out until about January 2020 so, we will ultimately have to wait and see. I have a few Dollfie videos on my Art channel and I will see if the views are affected in anyway. What are some of your opinions? Especially from people who have active doll-based content on their channel. Noxxbunny Posted September 24, 2019 YouTube's AI is indeed dumb. It's not going to differentiate between collectible toys not intended for kids and a LOL doll from the store. So I expect all BJD related content to get hit by this since apparently it will pick up on the vaguest things like "colors" to identify it as "child appealing content". Guess I'm a literal child now though according to this new change. Seeing how my recent history consists of things like Steven Universe soundtrack (cartoons) Deltarune soundtrack (gaming), Nicole's Dreams faceups (toys), NerdECrafter(DIY and arts and crafts. She also has a decent video on this change too. They basically told her all she could do is change her content.) I don't know why YouTube won't just give up on making the regular site a squeaky clean land for the kiddos when they have YouTube Kids. Just tell everyone to go there and go nuts with all the restrictions you want, YouTube. I don't see a lot of my favorite channels surviving on YouTube in 2020. And that makes me sad. 2 Current Crew: Kaito(DDH07), Kagamine Rin, Kaito V3, 9S, Ruby(Arle), Devola(2B), Anya Forger

Omg, YouTube trying to make the flagship site kid-safe GRINDS MY GEARS. I know a LOT of parents use YouTube as a virtual babysitter. Instead of taking the time to download the YouTube Kids app, making their child's account AND monitoring said account, they just hand their phone over to their child and keep it moving. YouTube does have a slight responsibility to make sure there no kiddy porn or anything up that alley being uploaded to the site. However, when do the parents have to take responsibility for their children? It's not YouTube's job to completely monitor what YOUR child is doing on the site. That was the main reason why YT Kids was made. It was supposed to help parents monitor their kids easier. You techically have to be 13 to get a YT account, so YouTube essentially has to keep all the cont PG-13 yet I swear they are trying to make the site E for everyone -_-
Monty Posted October 16, 2019 Youtube is a real joke with stuff like this. My Luka unboxing vid got age restricted because of the horrors of a naked doll - I challenged this restriction and got an email saying I won and my video was no longer age restricted....but it still is, and nothing I do can change it, any attempt to contact youtube is ignored and I have to put up with 30000 comments asking why its age-resctricted. That experience doesnt give me a lot of confidence in this new idea of theirs. That said I understand where its coming from and is probably related to so many of those weird creepy videos with bootleg spiderman and elsa that kids end up watching that seem to exist just to get ad money from kids. But still, it bothers me that 'plonk your kid in front of youtube and let autoplay run' is the new 'plonk your kid in front of the TV.' The latter may not have been the most responsible thing either but at least you could check a TV guide to see what was coming up. Some of the stuff that comes up when autoplay has been on a while on kids vids ranges from disconcerting to genuinely vile. *twitter*instagram*art*

Yeah, it definitely a lot easier to monitor what kids are watching on TV versus the internet just due to the massive amount of things that are uploaded onto YouTube. The naked doll thing also kills me because kids play with dolls themselves and obviously see them naked when they change their clothes. Dollfie Dreams aren't realistic at all and while they don't have plastic underwear molded onto their skin like Barbies, they definitely don't look like Angel Phillia's.
