Ideas for Rin's broken Senbonzakura getta?

So, Rin's getta from the senbonzakura outfit broke. . . Both of them. 

When I got the outfit I knew it would be a problem eventually because that clear soft-plastic never holds up. . . I just did not realize eventually would be just 3 years later. It is a little irritating to say the least, especially because I wanted her to wear the outfit for a trip to Epcot coming up soon.

 

Anyway, does anyone have any ideas or clever tricks in how I might fix these?

I was thinking I would switch to string or black elastic that would hold up better, I am just struggling with how I might attach it???

 

No ideas on ways to attach, but I think monofilament line (like small fishing line) might be another good choice for material.

On the top end it looks like you could sew through the material, but I don't have a clue what to do on the sole part.

@marishade: The following isn't a definitive guide for how to fix the problem but might give you some ideas for how to best approach your repair project. As for the string shown in my drawings, I had @cfx's suggestion for using a monofilament line in mind.

I think this first picture will be self-explanatory.

The following will be the more extreme method. I wouldn't suggest a power drill. If you use the method below, I suggest a pin vise + drill bits and drill by hand.

If you do use this method I would drill through from the top where the broken plastic is. That way you aren't trying to aim for that spot from the bottom. There is already a hole in the fabric there, so it's a good starting spot.

The drawback to filling it with epoxy and gluing the knot is if the mono line breaks you've glued it in place. You might be better off with modelers putty, because even after it dries it crumbles readily under stress, so it's pretty easy to remove using a jewelers screwdriver as a pick, then just run a new line through.

It can still be sanded flat, and painted to match.

Thanks! I will look into these two options this week. Once I choose a method and proceed with the fix then I will post 'after' pictures.

Looking now at how the geta are shaped, definitely this, and you would also need to angle the drill bit a little towards the center since the platform soles taper down as they go.
