I've loved looking through all your past pictures 📷  although I have to admit that my girls are rather jealous and annoyed with me as they get to sit on the shelf in their underwear unless I'm doing a photoshoot 🤣

The Holidays are here again, and my favorite of all Christmas is on it's way!  This year is going to be rough, so many of my usual traditions are cancelled or modified.  But I'll try my best to have a great season, if you all do the same!  Happy Holidays everyone, I hope you have a wonderful month! 

I'm especially proud of the wreath and fireplace this month, as I made both of them from scratch.  I did misjudge the scale of the fireplace though, oh well.

March is here, and Spring is right around the corner.  Well, here in San Diego it's been spring for over a month, but still... With March comes St. Patrick's Day, so I thought I'd dress my girls up in green for the occasion!  I hope everyone has a great month, and that warm spring sun gets to all you snow bound folk soon!

Quick mid-month update because I have a new doll to gush over.  Introducing Katie, posing with her sister Emma!

Well, this time last year I didn't know my doll family would grow so much!  April 2020 was the last month Samus was an only child, and now she's one of three!  April brings Spring in full swing with Easter right around the corner.  Perfect time for a walk in the park with a book.  I hope you all have a wonderful month ahead of you! 

 

 

I wanted to do this theme last year, but after the event was cancelled, I just didn't have the heart.  But this year it's back, and it's time for Eurovision 2021!  Open up!  All three of the outfits are inspired by past Eurovision entrants, with Emma's being totally based on Lena's performance of Satellite which won back in 2010!  I have one more picture to take that I'll post later of all three girls together with the trophy and the Metroid, but I'm running a bit behind!  Is anybody else here a Eurovision fanatic?

and the final display pic!  For as simple as the staging was for this month, the photography was difficult for me.  The "stage" lighting I rigged up for the display didn't photo great and it was really frustrating to get it right (or as close to right as I could).  I hope everyone has a great month!

Silly question, are you using automatic white balance on the camera, or locked ?

if you were trying for strong colored light contrast effects that could make the AWB a bit annoying as it tries to pick a hue to go on, and results can vary a lot... on the other hand finding a suitable locked base white balance can be a pain too.

There are the occasional happy accident even with awb on though..

I was using awb for the most part.  I'm still very new to DSLR as I haven't used an SLR camera this since they were still film, it's a bit of a learning curve trying to merge what I do know about the other settings with the digital sensor now.  I did try and fiddle with the white balance a bit in post processing, but I didn't get very far.  I still have a lot to learn.  

mmm its a learning thing all right. Just recognized a familiar grumble, and thought Id ask.

If its available, and you are taking pictures in a static light (or a static baseline you want to enhance with tinted spotlights, and such), id suggest using the manual preset mode, where you take a full frame picture of something grey (or anything between black or white depending on the camera) in the base lighting you want to use, and go from there. -- it'll also depend on the camera will you have to put it in full manual mode for this to work though. -- (I also had to do a firmware update on my D3200 for this to be available)

 

some camera's (like my Nikon D3200) might have a nerfed ammount of white balance presets so you might not find a suitable preset mode no matter how you try.
