Monthly Outfits

Samus coming in with the August encore.  I'm still learning lowlight photography, and I wanted to challenge myself to a little rave/cyberpunk kinda thing.  There's also about twenty music festivals going on around me this month, so I figured it would still fit the mold.  Anyway, Samus heading out to those summer music festivals, here we go;

Sorry for late response after like. Love these pics! ^^ She looks gorgeous, cyberpunk is such a fun huge genre too.

I really find it fun to play about with colour lighting, what I like to do is set the shutter speed low so it gets a good stare at the scene.

Thank you for the compliments! It is a lot of fun to play around with the lighting in photos like this, someone in another place I post pictures mentioned light painting as something to look into and the possibilities started running through my head.  I can't wait to explore it more. 

September is kind of a mixed month.  It's the end of summer, start of fall, and not wholly anything.  So I thought who else could show case the duality of it better than my ginger sisters Emma and Katie.

and Katie doing the fall return to college thing (I've been watching Gilmore Girls and has New England on my mind, so kinda did that vibe, even if that is Boston University blurred in the background instead of anything in Connecticut)

Thanks, and exactly, Halloween is so much fun!  I have two sets planned for next month, one of which I've had the idea for over a year and am finally making happen.  It's going to be wildly esoteric and potentially unpopular, I can't wait!

That sounds fantastic! Halloween is the perfect time to embrace your creative and esoteric ideas. It's often the unconventional and unique costumes and themes that stand out and make the holiday so enjoyable. I'm curious to know more about your esoteric Halloween plans. Well, I have two ideas for this October, and they're going to be done at different times.  The Halloween themed one is going to be:

four types of witch outfits and accessories (candy witch, pumpkin witch, potion witch, and fortune telling witch)

and that's going to be later in the month.  The one at the beginning of the month is going to be the esoteric one that I've been working on and making things for since last Halloween, and is more October themed than actually Halloween themed. Although, there's still plenty of Halloween in it.

It's going to be four scenes based around some of the songs from the album October Rust by Type O Negative.  Particularly; Love You To Death, Be My Druidess, The Green Man and Haunted.  Stylized based on some of my own interpretations of the lyrics, and cutting just enough of the overtly sexual tones of Be My Druidess.  

I'm kinda nervous about it since I've been working and thinking about it so long, I really hope I don't mess it up! 

This is gonna be a little bloggy.  

October is always a busy month for me, there's always so much I want to see and experience.  I just want to wrap myself in a blanket of fallen leaves and take in the season and the creativity that always seems to come along with it.  I'm going to have two shoots this month.  Later in the month I will have a more traditional Halloween photo shoot that's shaping up nicely.  But first I'm going to indulge myself this one that's kinda different from what I usually do.  

October Rust, by Type O Negative came out when I was 14, the prefect age to be snatched up and molded by it's lush soundscape.  I was a goth/industrial teen in the 90s, sue me. lol Due to some things happening in my life, I stopped listening to most metal from my youth a few years back.  Last year I was talking to a friend and they mentioned a song of theirs, "Green Man" in passing in the spring.  I remembered it well, it's still one of my favorite songs of all time, the twelve string guitar intro flowing into a literal poem about the seasons crooned in Peter Steele's baritone sound was and still is wonderful to my ears.  So I decided to start listening to them again, and fell in love with the album all over again.  It was last October when I was listening to the album while taking my photos that I got the idea of doing a set based around some of the lyrics from the songs.  No sooner had I thought it, I had the ideas pop right into my head for the exact songs I wanted to use and so a year of hunting, crafting, shopping, commissioning, and overthinking has brought these here.  Each of the pictures will have a corresponding lyric that inspired it.  Also, these are going to be the closest to NSFW photos I'll ever do. 

Are they the best I've done?  No, limitations of skill and talent always leave parts of the idea behind in my head where I can never seem to get the whole idea out.  But I was happy taking these pictures, and I hope you like them none the less.  (Fair warning for anyone curious about Type O Negative and wanting to give a listen; they aren't for everyone.  Their dry sarcastic bitter sense of humor often gets construed into something it isn't, and the lyrics and images can be a bit gross if you're not in on the joke, I do think Green Man and Love you to Death are some of their best songs, if you're still curious)

Thanks, it was a lot of fun.  I had a similar idea with album covers a while ago, but it didn't grab my imagination like this did.

Thank you!  September is always a hard month for me since it's still very summer but just a bit fall.  I'm glad you liked them, hope you like Octobers too, there's going to be a second October set later if you don't lol!  

Halloween weekend, a time for ghouls and witches to ply their trades and revel in the night!  My girls are up to the task as a quartet of witches, each representing a part of the night and the holiday.

First is Lydia as a pumpkin witch: 

happy to carve a spooky face to scare away other ghouls

and she's chosen one special for someone, gift or curse, who's to say? 

Emma plies her skills as a potion witch, as she goes into the wood:

many ingredients and special incantations are required

all that, for precious little.  I wouldn't taste it, if I were you.  

Samus has something worth seeing, far seeing as it would seem for a fortunetelling witch. 

reading your stars, or gazing into the crystal, she can find what lies in store. 

or perhaps the cards hold the key to the future?  

Of course, what Halloween would be complete without a bit of Trick or Treating with Katie as as a candy witch:

Maybe a candy cocktail is something more your speed? 

maybe it's best you take your candy and go, but don't let your mother know where you got it, she'll just take it from you... perhaps for good reason.

Liked the "blog post" too with a bit of personal history from where times in the past can still influence creativity in us today.

(We are probably roughly the same age lol) 

There is nothing I find better than putting some music on and letting my little buddies come to life on camera.

When you think about it, they are daydream extensions of our minds.

The props are awesome, your girls look right proper stunning and the pics are excellent, I can feel them move in the pics.

Hey, this thread is four years old.  Didn't think I'd keep it going so long.  Lets see if we get to five.  

November has come, so lets do some quick fall outfits why not.

I just can't seem to get Emma outta that dang leaf pile, we get it girl, you look good with them!

I don't have many pictures of Samus in fall colors.  I'm surprised, they look good on her.

I surprised myself and got December's photos done in time for the 1st! 

No real solid through theme for the month, other than just Christmas in general.  After doing The Nutcracker two years ago and A Christmas Carol last year, I decided to just do some simple Christmas shoots with the girls.  

Here's Emma to start the month as a busy little gift wrapper.

and this month marks five years that I've had Samus, so I thought it would be fun to try and recreate one of my favorites of her.

oh your photos are stunning!! I love how you use lightning to accentuate the story in each picture. The second photo of Katie where she's lit from underneath is so good. And Lydia is just so cute as a living poinsettia, haha! I adore how her hair is covering one eye too. Samus is also adorable holding the champagne while putting the star on the tree- don't spill!! You have really fun photos!

I agree about Lydia's new do, it happened on accident too!  I was curling it with a tiny curling iron, and I tried it back on her after one of the curls to see how it looked and saw the bangs went sideways a bit, I was bout to take it back off  to try again when I looked at it a second time and decided that it was perfect. lol
