Speaking of Valkyrie, I'm pondering whether the 1/20 scale Super/Strike Fighter Valkyrie from Max Factory will be worth the expense and trouble. I might be better off with the 1/48 version from Hasegawa instead. (Though if I buy the large one, I'm likely to buy the 1/48 version anyway.)

I love that Minimum Factory valkyrie, but it's huge, expensive, and I know I'd never actually build it.

Lol I'm slow. Only now did I just realize "Minimum Factory" is a play on the company's name, Max Factory.

The topic came up in the Mash thread because of outfits; I looked a bit for alternate wigs for Ranko that are still in her color. So far I haven't found a lot, at least that are actually in stock.

I wish Lullaby Poem's English website hadn't disappeared as they had wigs like her original and I think other styles in that color. This Cotin Doll one might be good, and Mandarake has one but it may be too dark.

Think the Cotin doll one is the better fit. It’s a bit light. The Mandarake one looks more like a tarnished silver color; it’s a nice color but not Ranko.

That's how I felt about them too. I think the Cotin Doll might not really be as light as it looks; those look like high-key photos because the doll's skintone looks light too. This wig comes in the same color and looks darker.

Lullaby Poem had probably the closest color though, too bad their English site is gone:

@Zaliayn there's a Miku Hatsune and a custom modded DD on that page. You could prolly find a similar modded DD on YJ.

I believe the repainted girl is Alice Kuonji.

@sweets @cfx thank you both! 😀 It always amazes me just how different a sculpt can look depending on how it's painted.

Unlike most DD releases, I haven't seen pics of Ranko from any Volks store displays, or do they not really do that with rerelease dolls?

Now that Dolpa has happened, I hope soon the info is up about whether she will be lottery or clickwar, and hopefully something about what/when Volks USA is doing as well.

I took some (crappy) photos while I was at Dollpoint recently.

 

Here’s the display from Dolpa yesterday which I think was her first display.

My friend went and was in the Sumika line to try for Arle for me (and succeeded!) and said that Ranko sold out first - so she was the more sought after of the two. (It was close, though). 

unfortunately my friend also saw what were undoubtedly resellers leaving with multiples of the same doll. Sure enough there’s a bunch on yahoo auctions now, including ones that were going up in real time while my friend was still in line. (Since it’s one doll per person allowed, there definitely must have been people paying others to stand throughout the line for them...one guy was leaving with 4 Arles) But, since a surprising amount of people in line got the doll they wanted this time(there was genuine surprise on twitter and among the people near my friend in line that the sold out announcement still hadn’t happened, as pretty much everyone at that point in the line expected to miss out) I really hope this means there will be a generous amount in the after event as well.

I really can’t stand to see resellers make a profit, so it would be really great if enough dolls were made that no one is willing to even entertain the prices they’re asking.

Thanks. From the outfit, that is obviously her original release. I guess given that exists there wasn't a need to show the new one ahead of time. I was looking at the Volks shop blogs:

Those have plenty of pictures of Mash and Gudako, and Rem and Ram before their release, but nothing on Ranko or Arle, outside of some just advertising that they're available at the event.

Agreed. Scalpers suck and it's fun to see them have to sell something at no extra profit.

Glad to hear that the quantities seem to be good. Based on recent history this is probably unfortunately going to be another clickwar so it's not going to be fun no matter what.

I think only the centre Arle is new though, that user seems to have only gotten one so I assume its a group photo with others from the original release. edit: looking at that users account it seems like they only own 1 original Arle and 1 new Arle and expressed a desire to do a photoshoot with other owners.

The reason I think the middle one is the new one is cos they have another post comparing the eyes between ver1 and 2 and theres a slight difference - but I put that in the Arle thread.

There are definitely people with multiple Arles though, one of the most well-known Arle owners already had two and just got a third yesterday. But seeing someone getting four at once, and seeing all those listings go up in real time...its hard to not draw other conclusions.

 

Anyway, I hadnt actually checked what the Ranko situation was on yahoo yet and its worse... There are currently 14 Arle 2nds and 19 Ranko 2nds. 
Seeing this many go to resellers is really tragic and I can only hope its because there were so many more to begin with. Say what you will about the guy buying his third Arle, at least he actually wanted her.

Yeah I don't have any problem with someone having multiple of a doll if they want them for their own purposes, even if the doll is rare. This reseller situation sucks, because even if it turns out the after event has enough dolls for most who want them, that's a month from now, and there are people who won't gamble on that so they'll pay inflated prices now.

Sadness. I really wish the non-rotating wrist joints were still available either as an alternate, or even as the only type as I don't particularly find that rotation to have much worth anyway, other than creating hand poses that look very unnatural. When the old bodies were still the standard, at least the wrist joints that came with the dolls and with replacement arms were still the old ones. I don't know if the new style is liked in general, but I do remember @foo not being too happy with them either.

Checking back on Volks' pictures, they show the umbrella being rested on her shoulder, or her just holding it folded with the tip on the ground, so at least they aren't showing things that aren't actually doable, though if it's that heavy even having it balanced like that might be difficult.

So I'm hoping the umbrella balances ok like that. I probably wouldn't display her long term like that anyway, I could see it making a dent on the shoulder vinyl.

Anybody know if her stock stains? Is it lined?

The original release of that outfit stains; see here:

However, various things have clearly changed with the outfit (like the removal of the plastic straps) and it looks like the material may be different, so it might well be different this time. I don't know if there have been any reports about staining among those who got her at Dolpa.

The bolero is partially lined from the picture on the page for her; can't tell about the rest.

I keep checking her page to see if the info is up about how the after event will be done i.e. clickwar vs. lottery. Nothing yet...

 

Looks like she's on display in DollPoint now.

@Monty Weird. Was just coming here to post the photos I took yesterday of her but the umbrella wasn't there then. Guess they are changing it up. Those are much nicer photos than what I managed too ha..
