New Basic Dolls

Danny officially showed pictures of "Genesis v2". . . While there are parts of the mold I like (I think it is referred to as G07?), I do not like the face up. 

Genesis is my favorite Smart Doll in. . . awhile, especially because she has a semi-real "f- off/get back" look. The new face does not give that impression at all; another neutral or sweet look. . .

I agree, she looks pretty rather than fierce. For some reason I think the new faceup makes her look Korean to me. I have to say that I probably wouldn't have bought either version myself though, so I'm not invested.

Since all of the new sculpts have the nostrils, it makes me nervous that we might eventually be phasing out the anime style sculpts. I still like the new semi real sculpts, but I don't necessarily want to fully lose the anime sculpts. It seems that any time there are two products offered it becomes easier for his staff/logistics to go with only one or the other.

She looks stunning, do they Genesis and Genesis2 share the same head mold?

No, Genesis v1 uses G04, Genesis uses G07

Very similar, but more defined nose.

I truly prefer G07 over G04, my only concern is that she may look a bit "flat" from the side as most SMD do.

I wish there were more pics, as for the first time I am seriously considering getting a SMD.

EDIT: I can read from the post that she has fuller lips and puffier cheeks. This is giving me too much hope, and I don't think I can resist T_T

EDIT2: Gosh, I have inspected the pics again and her eyes are a bit too widely away from each other.. boooo

For the sake of accuracy, the original Genesis is actually the G02 face sculpt. I believe G04 was one of the first prototype semi-real molds with nostrils.

I have og Genesis, and even she has pretty wide eyes. When I removed the default faceup to do my own, it took some effort to make the eyes look less spread apart.

I can say that the G02 face sculpt has a decent amount of depth to it, and doesn't fall into the "flat triangle face" style I find most of the anime sculpts have. I don't have any other SmD, but based on the photos I've seen, I believe all the semi-reals have a similar level of depth.

not quite in my opinion, since I am a bit of a fanboy of the 1980's version cycles (trying to figure out how to make one of those as a open rider in 1/3 scale to be honest) ... but I guess thats one way to show off your rtx3080 founders edition.

The Dream Fitter was really just intended as a substitute for hot glue in the Dream Choice service. I do wish Volks had something like this though. The downside is that it might drive up the cost, and my guess is that’s not what they want for Dream Choice.

Reading the insta post, this still doesn’t address eye position changes without disassembly. 

 

Eye Cradle please be real and not April fools joke......adjusting eyes in Smart Dolls (and like any doll lbr) is super hard for me.

I feel like a lot of stuff Danny does for April fools aren't actually fake though. They seem like things he genuinely wants to work on, whether they'll be well accepted by the fans or not.

I can see why he made the comment about stating that the shipping time is 15 days: under promise and over deliver.
