Now the question is which FCC (or whichever governing body for commercially sold electronic gizmos) ruleset this falls under for USB chargers, and/or Hubs... or are rules moot again, because ... reasons.

I do think it's a cool way to handle floating heads, though! If I knew of a third party neck peg that fit smd, I'd be tempted to put my resin Ji-Zero head on there for the full robo experience. 😆 I wonder if these will be for general sale or not, though. The fact that they were in the last chaos bundle has me worried.

OK, but as a doll collector (hoarder) - this is the best charging option ever. I love this idea so much.

If it's possible to spray paint it silver maybe that's an option? Though I hesitate to modify SMD related stuff because it feels like I'm "ruining an investment" even if I plan to keep it, given how much markup there is for special things like this secondhand.

Counterpoint: if you do sell it, other people might buy it because they also like the silver.

In case anyone is a bit confused, the bust/stand isn't a charger - he includes instructions on his website on how to run the wires through the stand - think of it as a decorative bead on the cord if that helps. It's not any more 'smart' than any of his other current products.

The wires go up between the top/bottom half in the back and out the hole in the front (assuming you cut the hole, it doesn't come pre-cut).

On the one hand that's lame, on the other hand I can't imagine how expensive and disclaimer-heavy that would be if he actually included electronic parts with it so in the long run it's a good thing.

This part just makes it sound more like a gimmick to get rid of a bunch of busts that didn't work out, rather than an actual intentional product.

mmm, makes sense.. I saw the cable running up to the bust in the one photo shared here, and assumed it was the hub based on the sales pitch (take it with you to do whatever, alluding that it had some functionality besides being a probably overpriced bust-display). wasnt invested enough to investigate further because more pressing personal matters, but business as usual I guess.

Does some know when the new dolls will be on the frontline? There are so many on back soonish but I wonder when they will be available

There was a post talking about production updates on Instagram a while back!

The most important point was this one:

-Smart Doll body production is expected to reach healthy levels by November 2022. We will focus on getting the frontline girls out of cryosleep and hope to start selling option bodies by Jan 2023. Folks who bought Option Heads will be given first dibs to get their hands on the Option Bodies.

So if everything is going well, there will be more dolls available again soon!

Danny teased a new frame on Instagram lately!

It 'balances ease of articulation and torque resistance through a haptic joint system - it's like a ratchet with muffled clicks [..]', however, there is no ETA for it's release yet! Most notably, in the picture it also comes with jointed hands.

I notice it no longer uses the jeton joint spine, so I'm curious about the flexibility.

I haven't really been keeping up with SmD lately, but there are some more updates on the new frame on instagram! In Danny's own words: "Evolve - the next-generation frame for Smart Doll, which will (in my eyes) improve the durability, aesthetics, and posing!" Unfortunately, it doesn't look like he changed his mind on the whole 'I won't let the knees bend more than 90 degrees' thing, which is a little bit of a shame. With the old frame there were third party joints one could use to improve posing in that regard (albeit at the expense of aesthetics). I wonder if such parts will become available for Evolve as well.. I suppose we'll have to wait and see!

In yet another post Danny gave us a little bit of an insight of what's in store for 2023 and, oh boy!

-Evolve release. (Q2 until further notice)
-Galactic Gray.
-Cyber Shell. (SmD with panel-lining across the face & body)
-Multiverse Metallic. (Not sure what this is referring to)
-Code Geass C.C. & Naruto release.
-Return of Smart Doll boys. 
-All Smart Dolls will be shipped with the black cyborg head cap and the Clickety Click Stand.
-Smart Doll Plus frame redesign.
-Participate in cons in the US again 

2023 seems to shape up to be a good year for us vinyl boy enthusiasts 

I guess that decides what I'm doing with my doll funds for this year - I was debating preordering Len, but a shot at getting Archer takes precedence. I just pray that the boys aren't locked in the Chaos section or something.
