obitsu-based rozen maiden dolls!

Recommended Posts

i've been wanting to make some custom dolls based off the characters from rozen maiden since, well, they're dolls anyway and i've always loved the designs in the series, but there doesn't seem to have been a company that's actually released the whole cast of characters in an actual anime style + with actual differentiated faces. i'm pretty excited about it!(๑✧∀✧๑)

i'm planning to use obitsu heads and bodies for them, but i'm waffling a little over the actual scale i want to make the dolls in, as i'm considering either 1/6 or 1/4 and both have different advantages. if i were to do 1/6, i'd have the benefits of being able to use the outfits that groove released for their rozen maiden pullips since in my experience pullip clothes typically fit 1/6 scale obitsu bodies decently well, plus the outfits are absolutely beautiful:

however, since the headwear is intended for pullip/dal and not obitsu heads, there does exist the issue of that part not fitting and i would most likely have to find alternatives. plus, i think finding wigs would probably be a lot more difficult for this scale since not a lot of people seem to make a diverse range of 5inch wigs besides parabox, and i've never seen a brand that did commissions for custom 5inch wigs.

if i were to use 1/4 scale, the issue with wigs would of course be solved since i've seen a massive range of 8-9inch wigs all over the place and even custom commission options from various stores, but then there's the question of where i'd get clothes, as the only rozen maiden outfits i've seen for dolls of this scale were limited edition from various indie brands and didn't include all the characters anyway. i imagine i could probably find clothes that looked SORT OF like the canon outfits, but i'd really prefer them to be accurate and i'm not the best at sewing myself. _(:::з」∠)_

any advice to offer on which scale i should pick or how to solve any of the issues i mentioned? it's not really a rush since this is just an idea at the moment, so i'm pretty open to suggestion. ٩(●ᴗ●)۶

Cosplay for the Rozen Maiden girls is pretty common for dolls since the characters themselves are dolls. I feel like it may be easier to find the clothes in 1/4 scale than in 1/6 even if the pulip ones are nicer and in the worst case you can get custom outfits made.

I did a quick search and found that  蘇州製衣 has quite a few of the rozen maiden outfits in 1/4 scale on From Sen (for some reason I can’t copy the link..), quality looks rather poor though. If you can find them on Taobao they would probably be half the price.

I guess the main issue is really about budget and space. If you have plenty of room and money for the project I’d say bigger is better as there are more options for clothes, eyes, shoes and wigs at 1/4.

@Beani i really appreciate the advice! the outfits really were the only thing making me lean toward 1/6 so thinking of it that way 1/4 scale does start to seem preferable... @onion16@

i managed to find the outfits you mentioned on from-sen, but yeah, like you said, they do seem a bit lower quality, so all things considered it seems like commissioning outfits would be the best option. that does seem pretty costly though, whenever i've seen custom clothing commissions floating around they've tended to be for $250+ an outfit and finding somewhere to reliably get them over the course of a project that could take a while to complete seems like another issue entirely. _(:3」∠)_

that said, i'll look around and see what i can find!
